Now that being said, people who are disabled zombies probably get picked on a lot, because really, no self respecting hero is going to fear a zombie without the use of their legs, or a zombie that can't walk straight, so those zombies are like useless. As for why they can survive much more than an average human when it comes to getting chopped up or something. I think this is because their brain is so screwed up, they have only basic animal instincts which basically make them get even crazier when they are hurt. Seriously, ever seen a bear or a wolf or something wounded? They go crazy, they attack everything near them. And zombies don't care about their livelihood, so they might as well keep attacking no matter what. more research needs to be done in this area.

28 days later and i am legend do not have zombies. they have virus infected people. in 28 days later they kind of behave like super quick zombies, but they're not DEAD. and in i am legend, it's more like vampyrism, but without any of the sophistication associated with vampires. zombies are something entirely different. zombies are animated by necromancers and are living dead. none of their internal organs, nor brains, function past the most rudimentary functions, that is : they're able to identify and attack a non-zombie, and run away from a priest wielding a cross trying to turn them. as well as take simple commands such as "guard this place" or "don't attack white-cloaked people" if those commands are given by the necromancer that created them. a zombie is created by the remnains of a body. it can even be several bodies tied together or whatever. any mental retardation would essentially be gone because a zombie is dumber than a retard. zombie-ism is kind of a way to even things out, cause everyone infected becomes equally dumb. physical retardation would depend. first of all real zombies, not the ones in 28 days later and i am legend, are slow moving and usually have some kind of limp anyway, and they are incapable of running. if a zombie lacked an arm when created, it lacks an arm as a zombie. if it was in a wheelchair because it was lame, but had all body parts as a person, it is able to move as a zombie, because what makes a zombie move is merely a connection between the body parts combined with dark magiks. so i dont know what would happen with a rage or KV infected wheelchairie. but I have just explained what would happen with a real zombie.

http://science.howstuffworks.com/zombie1.htm Note that the zombies created are fairly retarded - there is no aggression - in fact some portion of their brain has deteriorated (think walking vegetable).

Zombies from I am Legend=Pitiful, unscary, Lord of the Rings orcishlike douchebags. They could have made it into an awesome movie and Smith did a great job in his role, but instead they royally fucked it up with a horrible script and dumblooking "zombies." You always see the "darkseekers" long before they do anything, and their just so inhuman that its lame.

Not only that, but physical handicaps don't really have an affect either. The virus will repair dead or damage cells, and it will heal whatever handicap. Now I'm not saying that if a zombie had a limp chopped off, it would grow it back. That is gone forever. All of a zombies organs are inert except for the brain. Cutting off a zombie's head would kill it pretty much, but its head could still bite. That's why only head shots work. It's where the virus is and it is what controls the zombie. (Also the dark seekers are mutants )

Romero films. Try Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, and Land of the dead. There are also some other films like Shaun of the Dead and the Resident Evil movies.

For example, in Resident Evil (at least the movie, I think the game has a slightly different explanation) where the T-virus was initially being developed as a cure for disability (by reanimating dead tissue, i.e. spinal nerves that no longer function), zombies that had disabilities would presumably be healed. (As would people exposed to the virus in small doses who weren't yet dead, like the girl in the second movie, who would otherwise have been crippled like her father.) But in something like Dawn of the Dead (which never explains the origin of the zombies), it seems that the virus only affects the brain like a true zombie virus should, and so probably wouldn't result in magical "healing". And then 28days/weeks later shouldn't really count, because they weren't true zombies as they never died. However, the virus did give the "zombies" superhuman endurance. (I haven't seen I am Legend yet, but from what I've heard, it seems like the zombies are similar to those in 28 days)

as for mental disabilities, most types of zombies have very little cognitive function, and a disability would really have very little impact on that function. the zombies from i am legend pose a dilemma here though, as they retain quite a bit of cognitive function. it's likely that their basic needs (to feed, to avoid sunlight, etc) would be pervelent in even a mentally impaired i am legend zombie, but the ability to sick dogs on their prey (as in the movie) would be limitted to the zombies with higher cognitive ability.
