Hello I'm completely new to maplestory I did play it about 10 years ago at the start of beta now I am in my mid 20's but the game gives me good memories and I want something to just play and have fun and relax with pretty colours *_*. But the only thing that is stopping me is that i heard they nerfed the amount of exp you get because the big bang patch or something like that made it to easy and also you need to spend nx to actually do anything anddddddddddd on top of that some classes you need to spend nx just to get a skill, can someone tell which one of these are true or false thanks alot fellow liquiders!

Usually what happens here is that people frown and tell you to read the damn OP but let's be honest this OP hasn't been updated for several months so here's my take (yes I played last weekend):
- fun relaxing pretty colours - still there - nerfed exp -> they specifically nerfed "brainless exp farm zones" where people could 1 -> 200 in less than a week (well actually 1 -> 250 now), the overall exp curve is still better than it was 10 years ago, there are still brainless exp farm zones but just not as many - spend nx to get skill -> not true anymore (someone confirm this for me?) - spend nx to actually do anything -> still true and will always be true all hail master Nexon
The nx part: well you really need a pet with auto loot because holy shit all events are basically "kill 300 and collect 3000 shitty drops from those mobs" and manual looting is painful. Beyond that you either spend $1,000+ to overkill mobs that have 1/10 of your damage as hp or you don't and still overkill mobs that have 1/2 of your damage as hp. Same shit, but big numbers are attractive I know...
Game is still good for mindlessly killing shit while watching streams and if you're interested make a character on Demethos and leave character name and preferably be in channel 4 so I can invite you because I'm always in channel 4 because of old habits. Keep in mind that basically the game is dead and so is the guild so don't expect a lot of activity LOL we usually have 2-3 people online. Cheers!

for comparison i played this game without spending money and did maybe 10-20% dmg output of everyone else
|
Channel 8 is where its at. And once you get a pet you can never go back...I'm too scared to open MS in fear that my pet gear will be gone
|
Basically I lost money from the latest / on-going events because 1) my helm went boom on the 5-star enhancement and 2) failed the chaos of goodness on the badge. SIGH
|
wut event? I havent been on MS in a while. Too much league

I'm in the same boat - I don't think you need to spend nx to get a skill, but it is p2win and will make it easier. They've really made leveling so ez compared to before when you had to rely on kern / ludi PQs... ah back when I played. My gf and I started playing on GMS recently - which server you on?

Hey guys I'm finally playing and I also got 3 of my friends to play with me hope to see you guys around :D. Oh ya and what is a good unfunded to class to make lol :D?
|
Everything in this game hits like a truck nowadays, the concept of "funded" doesn't apply to anything character-specific. Trust me everything hits like a truck. EVERYTHING. Also every character has some sort of permanent haste and flash jump so mobility isn't a big issue, plus melee/ranged is old concept everybody is semi-ranged.
If anything, make a character you've never played before - new cute bubbly skills yayyy
I'll log on later tonight so leave ur IGN (and your friends if they want) for guild invites / etc.

Well what is the cheapest class that can hit hard because i have a team of 3 so I would like 1 person to do alot of single target 2nd person do alot of aoe 3rd a some kind of support and I'm not sure about my ign yet i have 3 different characters but will probably delete them and make new ones.

Well okay fine.
Since you have a party of 3-4 I'm going to "draft a lineup" based on what's available:
1) Support - Of course this has to be Bishop. Holy Symbol is #1 skill 5ever this is best thing ever plus other buffs are amazing. Perhaps weak for solo play, but a must have even for a party of 2. Choose adventurer -> go magician path -> you know the rest.
2) Jungle/Offlane - I recommend the Kanna (one of the newest classes, in sengoku category). This character is also "mana-independent", as mana potions have no effect, you have capped 100 mana which regenerates fast, and a decent basic attack that costs 0 mana and scales with job ranks. Kanna also gets this skill that increases map spawn rate, a definite must for sharing a map with few other people. Moreover, Kanna comes with several map-clearing AOE skills which can be used effectively if you can time the cooldowns right. Alternatively, I recommend Battle Mage (resistance). Battle mage has many auras that augment the team, including a fantastic damage aura that everyone loves. Being a mage it of course comes with teleport for mobility. Not the best solo damage, but it does decent in a party setup.
3) Mid - we want an explosive player here to control the runes and set the tempo... o wait, right, so a couple good fun characters are Kaiser (nova), Luminous (nova), and Hayato (nova). Kaiser is sort of like a frenzied knight that has a final form which is pretty awesome. It scales with gear than a lot of other characters. Luminous is like a supermage, excels at AOE and solo farming, doesn't really need gear, plus it passively benefits from not getting hit which makes it one of the few characters worth "microing". Hayato is more of a traditional sword character, fairly good damage and evasion, kind of solo-focused set though.
4) Carry - you want the absolute hardest carry? Hard to say, and people have different opinion here... ultimately comes down to gear really. It also depends whether you'll be devoted enough to play to lvl200+ or you want like a month or two of casual fun then move on. I'd recommend the adventurer classes here - both archer classes are great but Sniper (crossbow) is especially awesome for single target damage. Corsair (pirate) is great too (my main!), but lacks in mobility (one of the least mobile classes). Perhaps the best unfunded / minimally funded single target comes from the Mechanic (resistance), which goes into siege mode and unleashes mad auto attacks for single target annihilation.
You don't have to like pick one from each list like the way I categorized. I definitely think you should have at least a bishop though, holy symbol #1 you will forever embrace it and nothing else comes close to it.
NEXON SHOULD PAY FOR THESE HOLY SHIT THESE INTROS ARE SO GOOD
