Progress report:
Game06 I played 4 hatch hydralurk, but I didn't attack the comp until I had 5 bases up and running and was at 200/200 supply. All I built after my expos were up and running were overlords and hydralisks. With 10 hatcheries, 5 mineral lines and 4 gas and only spending resources on hydralurk, I had difficulty keeping up with my macro goals and it became impossible as my army hit 200. I attacked the comp hoping it'd manage to kill off enough of my army so I could spend my resources, but the comp mostly crumpled under the strain of my units.
In games 07 and 09 I did a 3 hatch lurkerling build, expo'd twice and switched to ultraling. As with the games I used this build on yesterday, all my excess resources were minerals and I couldn't seem to build enough hatcheries in time to keep up with it in ling production.
In games 08 and 10 I decided to try playing just for speed/macro and ignored any particular build order... just spending my resources asap and building tech and extra hatcheries as I could afford it. They both turned out to be 12 pool 12 hatch (in main) openings, with a quick third hatch at my natural, then lair and further expos and hatcheries as my economy began kicking in. Game08 my midgame was lurk ling, and in Game10 my midgame was mutaling.
My momentary APM max over the course of these 5 games, according to BWchart was 510-- I think you can guess which game that was from-- so combined with my progress over yesterday I'm starting to come around to the idea that the goals set forth in this exercise are actually attainable for me. Whether this will translate into real-game speed remains to be seen. Before I come to any conclusions on that, though, I think I should meet the goals in this exercise.
Goals = 300 apm, less than 600 resources.
