You might be surprised, but the oldest map of SC2, that "survived" from the begining of StarCraft 2 development cycle to our days is... Quicksands, one of FFA maps.
Quicksand - one of oldest StarCraft 2 maps
Here are screenshots of early builds of SC2 with early Protoss unit and building models with very old UI that we saw on early Blizzcons. Just compare minimap The difference is only texturing and decorations/doodads.
Also, as offtopic, want to adress your attention to one interesting thing. In HOTS campaign in early builds there was an idea to give control over Infested Zurvan in the latest Korhal mission. Yes, that giant monster was a controllable unit!
This was when Protoss and Zerg were primitive copies of their BW art styles!
OMG I want more videos like this. Man I still remember seeing the preview of SC1 in alpha (beta?) in a PCGamer magazine. I think I flipped through that mag almost once or twice a week until the game finally came out. Nostalgia...
I once played a 3v3 on this. My two partners were cheesed out really early, and then I came back and won with just marines. One of my best games ever actually. Even though it was on this terrible map hahahah
