So my lease for my appartment is up at the end of this month. Most of my friends already have a place. I live in a small town about 20 mins from Grand Rapids, MI. The only friends I could find to share a house/apartment with really want to stay in Grand Rapids (Which is one of the largest cities in Michigan).
That contrasts with me, because I REALLY don't want to live in the city. It's just a hassle for me, you know? For me, a perfect place is out in the country; it's got neighbors, but they're far enough away where it's not intrusive and you cont have to do everthing with the neighbors in mind. It has a backyard with a fire pit. On a summer night at your favorite bar you can say the after party's at your place, pack up and sit around a fire having a few drinks and listening to some good music. It's got a beer pong table in the basement, and is comfy and warm; maybe a short way away from the lake to go tubing on a summer day.
Contrasted to life in the city, I believe living out in the country is so much better. The city is too crowded. You always have to care about your neighbors because they're right next to you. It's bright out all the time (even in the middle of the night), it's loud, and it's just so unaccommodating in my opinion. Sure, there's the convenience of being close to stuff, but for me, I'd rather just drive the 20 mins, do something fun, then leave and go back to someplace peaceful. The bars in city, too, btw, are so bad to hang out at in my opinion. They're often packed to capacity, it's too difficult to have a conversation with anyone because of the noise, and they gouge you on prices/sizes. We have 12 oz well drinks for 3 bucks at our bar, where at almost any bar in the city you're going to pay like 350 for a rocks glass of a well drink.
I only have 3 weeks left to find a place, and almost every place they're even considering is in the city. We found a nice looking 3 bed 2 bath with a basement and 2 acres of land for 900 a month, but they'd rather go for a place that's more expensive, 2 and a half beds, 1 bath and looks like a piece of shit.
I'm frustrated, and I really hope we can find a nice place out in the country, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. I don't want to go with an apartment, because that's just as bad as living in the city, but I need people to share a house with and there aren't a lot of people looking right now. Here's to being frustrated. Hope you're having better luck TL.
Peace

the city is an awesome place if you have money to spend...when you look at places, knock on the walls to see how thick they are. The thicker the walls, the less noise from the neighbors you'll hear. Also I find it ironic you say the city is a "hassle" because really, it's can be looked at as more convenient because everything is so much nearer.....
Think how I met your mother (bar downstairs)
edit: also hows ur internet in the country?

Internet is fine. For me a lack of connected property is a huge hassle and makes me feel cramped. I love having fires outside with friends, I like being able to have a Quad or Bike and use that for entertainment as well, neither of which are very possible in the city. THe only things that are nearby in the city that are actually convenient for me (some forms of entertainment; rock climbing, concert venues, etc) are only going to be accessed 1-2 times a week, which I would just drive to.

Just go through your list of wants, and decide which factor has priority over others. Seems like your dilemma basically boils down to Living w/ Friends vs Location.
You can always rent a room in a house with people you don't know, and meet up with your friends on weekends.

you should be stressed about moving.....paying to live in a place you don't like...then whats the point??

Having a roof over your head? It's much cheaper to live with roommates than to live by yourself.

Live with other people to fit your needs for where and how YOU want to live. I just want to point out that this is obviously really bothering you, and it seems clear that you have the minority voice here. Your opinion seems to have no weight as it is. Do something for yourself!

It's a matter of financial need. I need a new home, but in order to afford it, I need roomates who are willing to find a new place. THe only friends I have that are looking atm are deadset on living in the city. As I need a roof over my head to survive, unless someone pops out of the blue to room with me, I have to go where I can afford to live, which atm, is only with friends sadly.
