You all remember when you really got into Starcraft right? All your friends were into it too, and you all played a lot together. Then you came across E-Sports, mind being blown, that there is something you can follow, and talk to all your friends about!
"Hey man did you see the GSL finals the other night?" "Yeah man PvP, still needs some fixing.." "I know right..."
Unfortunately I have become that guy that just follows every pro game too much. Some of my friends still play the game, but the only ones that watch stream are those that watch Day[9] or Destiny. So the conversation goes more like this.
"Hey man did you see the GSL finals the other night?" "Isn't that on at like 6am? Wait let me guess, some korean guy got beat by Nestea, or Flash?" "Well no it was PvP, you know MC right? Well he got beat by IM's Seed, couple all ins." "Wow, man that interesting and all, but I don't give two shits..."
Luckily I was able to find like minded people in my university's CSL team. But how many of you have gone through this process? Please tell me what its like.
Much Luv
DJ Wilma
*EDIT*
It wouldnt be much of a DJ Wilma post without something a little unrelated, so this is a funny song my CSL team showed me + Show Spoiler +

i think i am in this process.
the friends i play with still play from time to time but its much less than we used to. and i def watch way more than anyone i know. we have always played games in waves. like a bunch at first, then not, then come back to it a bunch etc. so maybe this is just a down period and some time away will get them excited again. i can only hope.
as for me, all my free time is watching starcraft. i am even thinking about actually training, not to become pro just to become respected somewhere in masters league. it does kind of suck to not have anyone to talk about pro games with at the "watercooler". for example i was going off about nsh vs fxo gstl semis demanding my buddy watch it and to my knowledge he still has not. but when it comes to playing just get in that 1v1 mindset.

Well, since barely anyone knows, that I watch sc2. I'll have to say... No, I've never went through that. But you should just be happy that you know people who even cares about sc2, and dont care that they aren't as much into it as you are. And it doesnt really matter, since you can really become 'that guy', who cares about sc2/esports too much, only the guy who talks to much about it. And you got new friends to talk about it with now, so what's so bad about being that guy? Nothing, just enjoy what you enjoy, and dont care what other people think.

I've become the kind of guy similar to your friends from the second example - one that used to follow the competitive scene hardcore, but one that will now usually yawn at the thought of watching anything that doesn't involve like 5 players that I still give a shit about and/or TSL.

I have to echo this poster's thoughts. I've never known anyone in real life who played StarCraft 2, nor anyone who watched the proffesional scene. But I am quite invested in following said proscene because it's really enjoyable for me: watching the occassional godly play, knowing who wins what and how they're currently doing, trying to predict who is going to win and failing miserably (because the game is still kinda volatile... or I guess few of the players are consistently awesome, either way)
Just enjoy following the proscene and don't worry that others don't. ^^

I feel you bro, when SC2 came out i had like 5 friends who also played it, then that number became 2, then 1. Most of them never got into the competitive scene. The last time I was able to get anyone to watch SC2 with me was when I dragged my buddy to a barcraft like 5 months ago.
Also, awesome video

Not a single person I knows has ever played BW or SC2, and I hang aroung a bunch of magic nerds.

You know Gangnam style was played at every possible instance during the GSL finals right? Something doesn't add up about this post.

I'm calling kaffudles.

i used to have around 1-2 friends that actually got pretty into the game. now, neither have logged into their battle.net account in like a year. pretty depressing for me =(

I'm honestly baffled at the fact someone who proclaims such devotion to eSports just found out about Gangnam style today...
I almost feel like I'm being trolled.

Also if you auto-mute / alt-tab every time kpop is about to come on, which is how I watch GSL.

Well said. Too much masturbation going on up in here.

I got to the point where I would talk about every game in the SPL with a friend in college the day after. Think of it as a good thing because it means you have time to follow all of it
