people heard 'max' and thought he was getting a joe johnson contract, but hibbert was still on his rookie contract after being the 17th pick, its about market price for a player of his caliber.

I'm probably being a homer, but if can get him and re-sign batum, I'd consider it a successful offseason. people heard 'max' and thought he was getting a joe johnson contract, but hibbert was still on his rookie contract after being the 17th pick, its about market price for a player of his caliber. Bit overrated if you ask me but the league isn't swimming with competent Cs so I guess you could justify it.

I mean, deandre just got 10 million and I bet you were happy, and he can't even play in the fourth quarter.

Looks all good to me ^.^ | ||

You can probably even look at my old posts, I never thought that was a good deal. And the Clippers regret it. So will the Blazers. It's not the extra money to Paul Allen, its the pressure on your cap. Yes, sometimes you just bite the bullet and sign the contract for too many years. But don't fool yourself into thinking you got great value. You're paying for the upside up front and if it doesn't pan out, it's a sunk cost. EDIT: Although, the Hibbert deal is comprable than DeAndre's because you're paying for his peak years of athleticism at 4 million more a year. Hibbert is 2 years older and played 29 minutes a game last season. So. Not saying he's bad or anything, he's pretty good, actually. But it isn't a $14 milliion a year player as he is now.

ETA: and for the Kobe lovers Yay for Bulls' defense! :D According to DA (David Aldridge); "Nets "very close" to acquiring Joe Johnson from Hawks for Farmar, Petro, Morrow, Williams, Stevenson and protected pick (Houston)." So they'll keep Marshon Brooks & Wallace.. Starting lineup would be D-Will, Brooks, Joe Johnson, Wallace & Humphries (though the latter is just an announcement away from being gone)

Joe Johnson is just not good enough, and that team will have monster issues even making it to the playoffs with the current shape of the East. They are going to get fucking killed. I'm guessing you have a decent overview of various teams current cap space, so I'll ask this; could the Nets afford to pick up Chris Kaman?

Wallace + D.Williams (max) + iso Joe (max) = 60.5 million per year on just those 3 players. ETA: Luxury tax line is around 70 million I think. Pretty much if you are signing a guy to max $$ status he better be one of the 5 best players in the league or have some insanely rare and valuable talent.

Ok, then you're 100% right, the Nets' move doesn't make shit sense unless they don't mind luxury tax up the butt..
