This is my first blog here on TL so feel free to give your oppinions.
Well i just watched the "Liquid Rising" Documentary and i wanted to give my oppinion of it. While i have not been very active on the forums, I have watched the evolution of the SC2 scene from the beta to this day.
Anyway i considered the idea of a Liquid Documentary a very interesting one and I was very hyped about this. I am very sorry to say that i was a little dissapointed about it all. I liked it, but not as a guy who watches Discovery Channel and National Geografic when he wants to relax, but as a TL user.
Even if I played SC2, but had no knowledge of proscene and TL this documentary would have beed very confusing. When i watch a documentary about "anything",even though i am no expert in that field, it gets me interested and wanting to find out more. I don't know if this was me knowing too much about the scene and TL, but all this felt flat and a little bit boring to me.
I also consider the word "documentary" a little misleading about it all. It should be considered an "interview series" rather than a documentary. That's what it felt to me: a series of intervies, each interview about a certain player. Except for the fact that they were all part of TL, i felt no storyline while watching. The parts themselves felt disconnected one from the other.
I consider that this should have been a miniseries, with each series focusing on a certain player. Some other missed points are the Jinro parts. It should have been very "documentary like" to show his journey from "foreign hope" to "just another player" (and i mean no disrespect). It could have shown that although he is past the peak of his career, he still lives in korea and works hard to live his SC2 dream.
Of cource there are some good parts about this as well. The audio and video quality was amazing and i admit it has some emotional moments as well (i'm looking at you TLO).
But overall this just wasn't a documentary for me. On that note, i will give this "documentary" 3 marks from my 3 different points of view:
as a TL user and proscene follower: 9/10
this is the mark it would have gotten if it was done as a miniseries and i was not a TL user: 7/10
this is he mark for the "documentary" quality: 3/10
Feel free to comment and sorry if i left any mistakes.
