Thinking of buying one of these as i move around a fair bit and would like to be able to continue my sc2 wherever i venture!
Does anyone have one, or have experience with one? Even if you dont, a quick look at the specs should give the people in the know (more so than me) a rough idea of what this laptop is capable of, any information in regards to how well it will run sc2 (and other new games, but to a lesser extent).
I'm pretty sure its more than capable of running sc2, but can i expect this system to be strong enough to run the latest games for the near future?
Important specs of the one im looking at: 2nd Gen Intel® Core i7-2670QM, 2.2-3.10GHz 17.3 " HD Led Backlit Wide Screen 500GB (7200RPM) ULTRA SATA Hard Drive 16GB Memory (DDR3 RAM) 2GB nVidia GeForce GTX 560M 2GB vram GDDR5 DX11 4G WiMAX and WIFI A/G/N Wireless Card
I was researching a laptop to buy a few months ago. I finally decided to save my money and buy a laptop later, but this is the one I chose after careful research. It was pretty much the most cost effective high end gaming laptop I could find. And ASUS are known for making high quality laptops. Pretty sure you can't go wrong with this one. The video card is quite powerful as well.
My friend who bought an ASUS recommended it to me. And I recommend it to you. This is what I'm getting when I get the money.
I bought an ASUS G73 a year or two ago. I still love it, it was the top of the line model at that time.
ASUS is the best notebook manufacturer, i absolutely love it. The only drawback is that the G series are freaking huge- it's definitely a portable desktop, not really a laptop.
I use; Razer Naga, Razer BW ultimate, ASUS 24" LED monitor with it- totally awesome.
The Asus motherboard features are sweet too, it boots faster than my buddy's macbook pro.
I own one, I love it. I did a review here on TeamLiquid about it if you try tech support and search for "Asus G74sx" In short though, plays Starcraft 2 on ultra settings flawlessly, I can also play any current game on the highest graphics setting. I only stream in Low Detail settings but that's just my preference, it's more than capable of graphic intensive programs though.
I've got one as well and its a fantastic gaming machine, goign to run Diablo 3 in it tomorrow :-) I run sc2 at 1080p with no frame drops what so ever and have also run crysis 2 in it.
I you have the money though I would suggest you wait for the G75sx, its got a beefier video card. Here's an unboxing video i did last year, there are several links on reviews you can look at from there
Thanks for the comments guys! Looks like i'll definitely be picking one of these up soon! The g75sx is probably a little outside what im looking to spend so i think its the g74sx for me.
Does anyone have an opinion on the keyboard of it? I have a quality usb keyboard that i will be using with it the majority of the time anyway, but just wondering on how its in built goes?
The weight is probably the only drawback for me, but hey its not uncarriable.
I have an earlier version, and it's amazing. As far as the keyboard goes, it's not the best. It feels fine, but occasionally while typing it skips keys. The trackpad is also really bad. These things haven't been much of a problem to me, I use a mouse and the keyboard isn't bad enough to really be annoying, and like I said, I have an earlier model.
