Currently I have cricket broadband internet. I would open a new tab and show you a picture of how pathetic it looks but since my internet is so shitty, I could be done writing this by the time I uploaded the picture.
I am supposed to have a 7GB limit where I can browse internet speed at a moderate pace at about 1MB for a monthly price of 70$ after taxes. However this is about the 3rd month now that I have had the internet and came no where close to breaking the 7GB limit since I am browsing the internet at an average of 30kbps and it peaks at 160kbps. This is very frustrating not for the fact that I have slow internet but also, when I play LoL....1200-2000 ping. How the fuck is anyone supposed to play with that It is at least a 3 second delay. When I play sc2...again a 1-2 second delay. WoW 1 second. Dota - 2-3 second. This shit is ridiculous.
I looked around for other ISP's. Main one is comcast. Too bad my mom fucked it up with them so only way I can get back with them is if I pay her 600$ past due balance.
Then there is HughesNet. But they want like 300$ startup/installtion and then another 50$ or so a month. So I have decided neither. I looked around a bit more, saw Verizon and AT&T and they don't service here. Shit. I am moving to my dorm in September and I will finally have internet there but that is 4 months...
I really don't feel like dealing with a 30kbps internet connection for the next 4 months. I don't even feel like playing computer games because of it.
So TL. That is my rant. I live in PA, about 30 minutes north of Pittsburgh if it makes any difference...

You might want to look around more for local ISPs, but apart from that there isn't too much to do.

Not sure how big of a deal this is but you can complain to customer service. Depending on the size of the company they may have someone on the line now. They should be able to test your speeds. I don't want to get your hopes up but in the Northern Tundra that is Canada, when people don't like Roger's phone services they complain and Rogers bumps them up a phone plan.

Woah, where do you live? Cranberry? I live in Butler about 45 minutes out of Pittsburgh :D
|
7GB limit? I don't think I could live if I only had that.

Have you tried subscribing to Comcast under your name with your own credit card? Since many houses have tenants they may not have a rule for only having one account per address.

Pittsburgh here. 35/35 Verizon Fios. 50 bucks a month. I actually get 43/36 speeds. Best 50 bucks I spent every month.
Where's your dorm at? What school?

Not quite that bad here, but I've given up playing any FPS game here.
Feeling ya bro, hope you can get it sorted.

I don't want to sound pessimistic but you're heading right away to masters ... in chess.

My interenet speed. I feel you man...

Lol, Im amazed to see how people see internet as some kind of a life support. I have had moments with shitty or no internet at all and it just allows you to appreciate other things. I usually get some emulators or take my PSX out of the closet, play some oldschool RPGs and just enjoy the fun.
|
I looked around for other ISP's and just no luck. It so shitty...
I can't subscribe under my own name for Comcast since they want to see a lease. And when they look at the lease they see my moms name and they go to her account. Which is 600$ past due.
@robaq I have had several issues with internet where I have gone months without it due to our family not always being financially secure. So I know how that is too. But is it just so annoying that I pay this absurd amount for internet and it is this shit.
Also, seems like a lot of us from Pittsburgh area. I will be going to Bradford School next semester right in Southside. LAN Soon?

I don't mean to double bump but I just speedtested and this is the result. Horrendous
And this is how it is when it is almost...normal.
|
Its going up to space and back again! Give it some time!
Seriously though, that sucks. My sympathies.

I agree though that you can just play some emulator games if you need to. That or find a local wifi hotspot like a library you can go to.
Finally it's summer and you have time to do anything you want.

Haha yea but then I will have to download the emulator...which god knows how long that will take -______-
And wifi hotspots I am not too sure of any around here.
However on the bright side. I brought up the subject with my mom and she said the Comcast bill is not 600 but 270 instead. So I am going to pay that off and continue service with them. Finally...."real" internet. Paying it is going to suck but its whatever at this point.

Step 1. Move to south side. Step 2. Get a shitty PT college job. Step 3. Order Verizon Fios for 50 bucks a month. Step 4. Go pro.
|
Oh man... 30 kbps... the fact that you haven't exploded in anger (yet) means you are one heck of a patient person that knows how to deal with anger.
7GB limit, slower-than-dial-up speeds for $70 a month? That might be the worst internet service I've heard of (can't think of anything worse at the moment). Good thing you're moving out in 4 months, but how will you survive the 4 months?
