So I was inspired by this blog which was basically about getting out of your comfort zone a la Courage Wolf and being rewarded for it thru achievement.
It really struck a chord with me as well, and the first thing I did when I got home that day was ride a deer. The deer where I live are ballsy, they generally don't run away unless you get reeeeally close or you're in a car. So I went up to one and jumped on before he could get away. Ended up being like the mechanical bull on steroids and fell off after 2 seconds when he started running.
But it still felt good.
So now I'm getting into climbing trees, namely because I live in a forest and when Battle.net is down there's not much else I can entertain myself with. The highest I've gotten so far is about 30 feet/10 meters (judging by the roof of my house) and I'm shooting for 50 feet/15m by the end of the week.
I haven't done it since I was in elementary school, and I love the stares from neighbors walking down the street when they see me 3 stories above them, straddling a branch like the world's biggest cock for all to see.
So, TL, have any of you climbed trees, do you still, and does anyone have advice/funny stories? Because I might want to make this a regular workout for me on the weekends.
Haha reminds me of school times, climbing up this tree and at around 3 meters high the fucking branch just falls off with me pulling myself up on it...nothing happened though, except 20 people screaming and shouting that I will get hurt, but they didn't expect my natural cat-instinct to save my ass.
man i was a little monkey when i was akid, i always LOVED climbing trees. never fell once either; actualy swang from tree to trees or jumped like a little monkey. gl man so fun
I loved to climb trees when I was a kid. I would go to the very top, or at least as high as the branches could support me. The tallest ones were probably 50 feet or so. And just like a cat, it always seemed a lot easier getting up than going down. I never fell though, but there were a few close calls.
I also loved building tree forts, so climbing was pretty natural there since my friends and I never built anything fancy. Hell, sometimes it consisted of a couple sheets of plywood in a tree, but at 8 years old, we thought it was the shit.
I love climbing things in general. Trees, mountains, buildings(? I`ve never climbed a building.) And like the guy said, barefoot is eaisier, you`ll hurt your feet only if they are wimp feet. What kind are you climbing?

Just regular trees, I guess? About 30-60 feet high, fairly skinny.

The more you know...
Well I think I'm in good shape, just a few minor bruises from the fall. They haven't even gotten their antlers yet.

If you enjoy climbing trees try rock climbing as well. Its also really fun and harder.
Surprising you actually jumped on a deer. You don't hear that kind of thing often.
lol at the image of little huk climbing XD
:D
I actually do wanna try rock climbing after I save up some money. Right now trees are just my only available option as in something I can do on a free weekend.
And the deer was sponatneous. He was the first thing I saw when I looked out the window, and I just decided, "I'm jumping on that fucker."

There's no rocks/mountains in my vicinity
no climbing gyms either? :C I know a lot of universities have them. It's one of the best forms of exercise.
My local uni has one, I think I've been there once. But unless it's a special occasion it's only open to uni students, so that'll take me a few years.
In Germany we have these awesome tree climbing parks ("Kletterwald" in German if you wanna google some pictures and shit), its awesome to go there on the weekends with some friends and go nuts haha :> Dunno if you have something like that in your country, but you might check it out if there are some!

I'm in love. It reminds me of the jungle planet from Star Wars.
But I don't think we have those at least in my area. Maybe somewhere in the west where the trees are huge.
I grew up in a small village in the mountain and climbing trees was the main occupation for kids there. You need to write a guide about how to ride a deer. I don't think you can simply "jump on its back"
