Ever since I started playing SC2 in a more competitive light, playing mostly 1v1. I came to a conclusion, that not only were colossus imbalanced, but that protoss being so straight lined, EVERYONE went colossus. I honestly took the time to think about how unflexable my race was, and swore to never build a colossus again. That was back in season 3.
During this time I was in gold, and through the seasons, I managed to get to top Diamond without ever building a colossus. Recently I took a break from Starcraft and on my return from a 3 month break, I found myself back in platinum. Due to this choice of never building a colossus, I would only ever cheese in PvP, and though it was not my proudest match up, it was my best.
PvT was terrible for me in the beginning. Considered my worst match up. After months and months of practise, I found myself loving this build that I do almost every PvT which increased the match up to my second best. A simple early 3 Gate, Robo pressure would normally either out right win me the game, or get me enough ahead, that I could expand without worry, that a 1-1-1 wouldnt kill me, and I could pull out high templar, which the Terran would normally blind counter my non-existent colossus. After all this, I still feel that colossus are an unneccessary addition to my army composition, and will still not build them in PvT.
Now for the big one. PvZ. It was originally my best match up. Having the ability to do a 6-gate pressure on the oppenent, killing their third, was usually enough to win me the games. Thanks to players like Leenock and such, more players do early harassment to a forge fast expand. Causing my 6-gate timing to be slowed down, and easier to be held off. Though I may get ahead, it would not be enough to win the game. Every late game PvZ I would is due to mass roach. Though some of you may think, go mass immortal, I find that they arn't as affective for my play as it might be for others. High templars, sometimes work, but it almost feels as if they can reproduce their roaches faster than I can regenerate my energy.
All this being said, after almost a year of playing without the colossus ever seeing the map in my games, I will begin to introduce them into my PvZ late game, to help deal with the mass roach armies, and will learn to play PvP much less cheesier, to actually see a game last more than 10 minutes.
All and all zerg have choices, go infestor as your go to unit, or muta, or broodlords, or mass roach, or just throw a game away with ultras. Terran have the choice of bio or mech. It seemed that Protoss have the choice of colossus or lose. I showed not all match ups need them, and hope that more protoss lean over to choosing air over colossus, but until them I will strive to build them as less often as possible.
Much love

I used to hate Colossus as well (Unless it was PvP, even then I favored 2star Void over Colossus^^), I always favored Templar over them, slowly though I started to add them into my late-game for all matchups. But that changed around the time of the TSL3 where NonY was doing that Double Forge + Colossus play, after that I decided I wouldn't do "fast" colossus builds--but recently I budged on that in my PvT, I decided I would just play the standard for the matchup (1gate FE into Fast colossus) because I was doing so poorly in that matchup. So far that has gone pretty well, I can't actually say I don't like the Colossus anymore. Even though people like to say they require 0 micro, I usually find that you can target groups of clumped units, pull them back if they are being sniped, or do this thing v T where you hold position your stalkers and back up your Colossus so that the vikings fly over the stalkers; or even Warp prism + Colossus drops. These little micro tricks make colossus builds much more fun to play.

I just played my first PvZ, guy mass roaches, still wins, and he argument to why its fair, is cuz when a protoss gets a death ball (you know just a really good army composition) its just as not fair as a player massing up roaches and winning.... I hate arguing with ppl would are just fucking stupid

so... how is this a love story?

Yo Djwilma, I played you on the ladder but didn't realize it was you and cheesed like hell. Part of the reason was that I thought I was playing a TvT and went gas before barracks. I suppose even if I knew it was you I woulda cheesed just as hard. Anyways, you BM'd the fuck out of me and when I realized it was you like 5 hours later, I couldnt stop giggling for like 30 minutes.
Assuming you = zingking anyway
Relevant to the thread? Maybe not entirely. But I found it funny as shit and was bound to tell you sooner or later : )

As a terran player, learning to deal with colossus at diamond/low master level was such a pain in the arse for me but now that I know how to cope with it it's all good. I still feel bad for lower league terrans who are dealing with the protoss death ball though.

both strategies are boring and repetitive. instead of colo, i find zealot/archon/vr armies pretty baller, and for zerg, ling ultra.

Actually minus the game that I got 7 pooled, I have won every PvZ after that game I was talking about. Army comp I use, stalkers, zealot, void, colossus/immortal. Its fucking amazing against mass roach, and the voids clean up the corruptors pretty good too. I find as long as I dont get killed within the first 10 minutes, I kinda just win :D

I stick to gateway builds myself. Robo tech is too inflexible to open with imho. You cannot play reactively, going either stargate or robo, it's prohibitively expensive. With gateway tech though, you can survive anything. Anti air will not spoil your day and any ground (or even air) compositions can be dealt with just by changing the ratio of zealots:stalkers:sentries:templar and keeping up with upgrades.

I find going 4G Robo Stargate, allows me to either go heavy colossus, and once he gets enough corruptors out, to tranisition into immortals, and basically I just get all the techs and it allows me to change my army comp at a moments notice :D

Haha it wasn't too bad. And I definitely didnt have the privilege of trying to argue it wasn't cheese, I stayed on one base for all 18 minutes. : )
