I went to see Iron Lady today. The theater was almost empty, there were maybe ten people in four groups total. (It was just wide released in the US yesterday.) According to wiki it's quite low budget but it doesn't feel indie (aka low production quality).
Meryl Streep is beyond amazing, an easy must see for her fans. The young Streep played by an actress I don't know is also enchanting. Structurally, the film kind of cheats by using flashbacks from an old-aged Thatcher, but I guess we forgive them since we can't think of a better way they could have done it. All in all, a good biopic movie with wonderful acting and scenes that even manage to surprise us. One of the best scenes is when the elder Maggie is coaxed into seeing a doctor by her concerned daughter, and she unexpectedly and keenly schools the doctor, sort of like the committee hearing scene in the Aviator.

I thought Iron Lady was good, although it felt like it dragged at times. And I say that as someone who doesn't mind long or what others consider slow movies. A pretty charitable treatment of Thatcher overall, made her seem very human. I'd only recommend this to people who are interested in the source material or love history/politics.
Why do you refer to your own opinions as 'we'? Unless you're actually talking about what you and the group thought of it. Nonetheless, it reads weirdly.

A very sweet propaganda movie of the purest kind. It's really saddening.

Is this supposed to be your signature? Because it doesn't seem relevant to the post

My question is also redundant, I can now see it's from the OP :p. Wasn't there when I first read it.

Man i hate not only Meryl Streep, but all of theater for the most part.

Eurgh. It's bad enough they have to talk about giving the woman a state funeral. Why do we have to watch films glorifying her as well?
I'll pass, thankyou!

The performance was good, but we already know Streep is a master mimic. Overall, the film was disappointing and even her impersonation wasn't good enough to salvage it.
