Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion.

Nydus worms.
I know this won't add much to the tread, but I am laughing on that for minutes now, it's just that obvious and funny. (hope this won't count as martyring)
Also Hydras for me all the way, I know they suck most times, but for me, their awesomeness factor wins, so I build all my strategies around them. (not that I would be master without handicapping myself)
Straight friends are so weird. One of my friends from college just told me his dick length and asked if it was normal...do girls not inform their boyfriends of these things?
Yes I have a question please, to any Gay SC players.
I read that the OP is a passionate atheist. I also found that a lot of gay people at my college is exactly the same. I understand that there is a lot of standards that come with the gay culture just as it is with any other cultures, but is being an atheist a standard?
I am not religious or anything, I am just totally curious and I wanna be able to relate with the people around me better.

Yeah, I noticed that too.
The whole Leviticus, do not lay with a man as you would a woman, it is an abomination, really turns homosexuals off to Christianity. There are homosexual Christians however, but there a higher percentage of atheists in the homosexual community than in that of the heterosexual community.

I'm a gay guy, but I assume that girls do not talk to their boyfriends about these things. The girl doesn't want to hurt her boyfriend's feelings if he is below the average by telling him that, and the guy doesn't want to hear that he is below average from the person he is having sex with.
Hearing it from his male friend, even a gay one, would be less of a blow to his ego, if he is indeed below average.

It's generally not that academic. Anti-religious sentiments among gays involve a response to an entire atmosphere among conservative religious people, not just a couple of verses. Tons of gay people grew up in conservatively religious families whose religion contributed a ton to the self-hatred and fear they felt growing up as a closeted homosexual. It's really hard to come out of that without feelings of extreme resentment toward religion.
Most of my gay friends who grew up in more liberal Christian families tend to just stay that way. Gay people who grew up in more conservative religious families tend to blame religion for much of the pain they experienced growing up, and end up pretty strongly anti-theistic. The latter definitely applies to me. Though, personally, the gay thing was just one of many reasons that my conservative upbringing left a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to religion.

And there are of course "born" atheist gay people (like me) who despite being born into a heavily religious family just never could believe things because somewhere in time someone said those things. Really, I was atheist first, way before I biologically matured enough to notice my gayness. When I discovered I was gay, and the "omg my life is fucked" thoughts stormed my brain, religion never played a role in my thoughts.
If we are at it, how did you discover it? For me, I was watching some stupid family movie during dinner, and noticed I would have liked if the football locker room scene lasted a bit longer. I finished my dinner, went to my room, and spent the evening thinking about my life, past and future, and that's it, my life went on.

That's interesting, for me, well, I've always kind of known. When I was a little boy, I had that anti-girl cootie feeling that I think most boys, gay and straight, went through. One day, I talked to my teenaged neighbor about my aversion to girls, and he told me that when I hit puberty, that feeling would go away. But it didn't. When I hit puberty, that feeling got stronger, and I wanted to be around males even more. I didn't know why I felt that because I've never heard of the word "homosexuality" until a few years later
But if it had to be a single event, it was when I listened to Toploader's "Dancing in the Moonlight," and as an avid dancer, I've always viewed dancing as a very intimate action. I would imagine me dancing with another man. I knew I was definitely gay then.

me and my straight friends NEVER talk about dick length in fact they shun that discussion
I'd like to say that I am gay and fairly religious (Christian). I've not really felt any spiritual tug-o-war at this point. My questions are usually a lot bigger like "Does God appear to other cultures in a way that is more natural to them in order to make it a comfortable experience?"
I dunno. It has been really easy for me since I converted.

Don't get me wrong I'm in no way saying that atheism is the way to go, or anything like that, as I see it, it's like sexuality, for some people it's more conceivable with god, soul, karma, and such, and for some, it's more conceivable with science, his own life experiences and what not. In my understanding, the means of someone's reasoning behind his decisions isn't important, his decisions are.

Guys I totally hear what you are saying, I can totally understand how conservative families can inflict some seriously deep damage. I grew up in a Christian family, where every action that I took was intensely scrutinized to ensure that it was in line with the scriptures. The time I realised when my parents weren't the perfect I thought they were, was when they told me honest good people who didn't accept Christ was going to hell.
I also grew up resenting the shit out of my family for the crap that they have drilled into me and my siblings teaching us to look down on just about everyone. Because of this, I am not religious.
I can completely understand the resentment towards Christianity but why is it that my gay friends are such passionate ATHEISTS?
I mean belonging to a religion and believing in a God are so completely different things. How does the whole Gay Culture go from being bitter about Christianity to being so sure that God don't exist at all?
I can understand if this is happening to one individual, but I wanna know why there are so many in the Gay community. I hope to one day bring up the topic with my friends without risking being a douche.

how do you manage the contradiction between your religion and your sexual nature? I have a feeling what your answer will be, so I'll ask you why choose to be a christian in particular when you could go to another religion that would give you no contradiction?

I would think it's because they never really got to know another religion, so god=christian god, of course i you would ask them specifically, they would say of of course there are other faiths and who know maybe some are true/better than christianity, but we are -the western civ- so focused on christianity that in everyday thinking, it just overshadows the fact, that it isn't the only legitimate faith. Of course I can't know this, but this is my 2 cents about it, and I hate christianity because it's so aggressive about it being the only legitimate faith.
Edit2 oh help! I somehow fucked up the quotes. (only wanted to shorten up the last one to the part I answered)

As I mentioned, being gay was just one thing that turned me away from Christianity. I'm an atheist because after getting over Christianity, I saw no reason to believe in any other god, and I don't think it's logical to do so. I still consider less-traditional religious beliefs to be just as irrational as fundamentalist ones; they are just thankfully not as harmful. (Also, most atheists aren't really "passionate about atheism." I've never actually talked to an atheist who doesn't consider themselves somewhat agnostic. Many, however, are passionately against a lot of the shit caused by mainstream religion.)
I feel like a lot of more liberal religious people are people who reject traditionalist bullshit but still like the concept of God. My upbringing destroyed any desire I may have had for that concept, and there's no reason to believe in a God/religion outside of desire or indoctrination.
Regarding straight men asking gay men questions, I'll share an experience of mine.
Having lots of straight (guy) friends as a teenager, I look back and notice that I took a very specific role. I often played "mommy" to all of my boys. In the many ways a mother would guide, mediate, reward and punish, I would seem to do the same. For example, all the boys were terrified of girls, but I wasn't, the girls loved me and I seemed to understand them best. I became the authority on girls (Oh the irony!). This among other things such as cheering them up and slapping them down if they got too bold. Pushing them in some directions and pulling them away from others.
At the time, I just thought I was "cool" but I've thought about it a lot and find it fascinating as this was before I considered myself gay. It was 100% my natural behavior. I am still friends with a few of these guys today and I feel a strangely strong bond - I feel proud of them, like I helped bring them up. Silly, but true.
I see it that religion is almost self evidently absurd if you genuinely conceive of it as true. Yet this blatant absurdity is suppressed or even washed over, such as an emblem on a wall being covered completely by a bucket of red paint being doused over it.
There are alot of influences over this deception, social, familial, a need//desire for meaning and reluctance to be without some form of "God" or religious structure as the alternative is seen as suggestive of meaninglessness and is therefore incredibly undesirable.
Tbh the list goes on, but there are a plethora of influences that perpetuate this deception of the absurd.
To finish abruptly I think gay people - to generalise although it certainly doesnt apply as a given, we are all individuals... -allow these deceptions to influence their beliefs, values and conceptions less than your typical person. I could elaborate on why this is, but people above have highlighted quite a few of the reasons why this might be already
I figure I'll plug my two cents in on this discussion. My choice for aethiesm is purely background. When I was really young I used to be VERY spiritual then I started asking myself the questions "Could God not exist? Could God merely be the belief and nothing greater? What evidence is there to say either way that he existed or was no more real than the Tooth Fairy or the Easter Bunny?" I went to a private Catholic School until high school and I questioned my teachers with my thoughts and their response was always along the lines of "Faith tells us he's real." I really began to love studying science at this point and decided "If God can't show himself, but science can be discovered and revealed, then there must be no God(s)." I disagree with organized religion in its current form, but I don't go out of my way to make it vocal. When the subject comes up I will give my view and leave it at that and if they try to preach...well I'll be nice and leave it at that (I have fun with these kind of people personally, the over zealous!)
Also, I think I knew my sexuality the first time me and my ex hung out away from school. Spent the night at his house and as young curious boys we hit the internet searching for porn. We ended up at some point looking at each other and started a game of truth or dare where we decided to only allow dares and experiment, let's just say the three years that followed that night were some of the best times in my life! Alas we haven't talked about it once since it ended almost five years ago and I know almost one hundred percent that he has no more feelings like that anymore (the whole over obsession with women almost feels like he's trying to smother the past indirectly instead of the opposite trying to cover the truth ordeal...which I do know someone who was like that, "woman crazed" but out now). Oh well I've moved on, I know we won't be romantic ever, so onto new water for that stuff!
