I am heart broken. This year has gone full circle with our zerg hero, Nestea. During Season 1 of the GSL, nestea was awful at the game (as with most people playing at the time) and was quickly defeated early in the tournament...
Then something happened in season 2 onward..
At a time where ZvT and ZvP were hugely in favor of any race that wasn't zerg, Nestea spearheaded the potential of the Zerg with 3 GSL championships. He quickly became a household name and was someone all zerg players looked up to. He had amazing holds, inventive strategies, excellent decision making. Nestea could see the world of starcraft through his Nestea-vision and somehow would dominate through pure ingenuity.
But something has happened to Nestea lately. From AOL to Blizzcon to GSL November...
Nestea v IMMVP: 20 broodlords no support Nestea v Huk: 2394827847520 banelings into archons, AFK muta Nestea v BboonBboong: creepless hydra attack, failed bling rush, fly muta into hydras
Nestea has displayed some really questionable plays. It should be noted that in most games, he was ahead of his opponents, but somehow just threw away his lead by doing ridiculous strategies/mistakes that nobody pass gold-league would do.
BlizzCup was absolutely devastating to watch for me as a Nestea fan
Nestea vs MMA: Making ultra/lings attacked into marine/tank Nestea vs Polt: Run all mutalisk/banelings into corner to die Nestea vs Leenock: Run drones into banelings
How much hurt can a fan endure?
I quickly find myself angry at Nestea more than feel sorry for him. He wasn't outplayed by the opponent, his macro was spot on. He was just **********! [mod edit]
There I said it! Nestea has become *******. [mod edit] His mindless plays are shitting all over fans.
Watching BlizzCon to BlizzCup has made me realize that Nestea is his own greatest opponent.
I can only hope that he gets over what ever the hell is driving him crazy these last few months over the winter break. But I'm not holding my breath any longer. This fan is jumping ship.

A real fan sticks through the hardships.
i hope you see the error in your ways. Artosis would be disappointed.

I really hope you're kidding, OP. Saying things like "How much hurt can a fan endure?" and "His mindless plays are shitting all over fans." Sounds like you're taking this WAAAAYYYY too seriously if you're "hurt" by a player not doing very well. I have favorite players of my own (and favorite teams in other sports, too), but I'd never be emotionally damaged if they started underperforming.

Boohoo Nestea fans are hurting stick through it bud FruitDealer is still my favorite player and he's basically dissapeared. Nestea will make a come back soon enough and he's still in code s

Jinro will be great again. Stay with NesTea-- he will not disappoint.

Ask any STX fan...

So you weren't a fan. You were a fair weather fan.

Being a fan is a conditional relationship. He's not my brother, my sibling, my kid, my dog... What he does directly affects the relationship.
If you have a friend who's consistently screws up for no good reason, I don't think he'd be on the top of your friendlist. The problem with nestea seems to be that he has other things on his mind. I don't expect the guy to play perfect, but I do expect him to play better than a casual player on battle.net.

i too am quite surprised, the silliness of his mistakes is astounding...
He must be not resting well or something. (One tourny he mentioned how he got drunk the night before... that might have effects on him)
Maybe he's an emotional guy, and has to get in the zone. Maybe if he gets out of the zone he can mess up a lot. I remember back then he was like the perfect player... now he is just a strong macro player who keeps making a lot of silly micro moves.
For example, he almost never magic boxes Thors. I don't remember the last time he magic boxed mutas, he would just right click on the thors (unless he was click-A'ing across the map, in which case he would let his Mutas attack the thors and not realize it in time)

it's zergbong dude
you should've always expected this, just go watch some KT 2v2 vods lolol

Have faith in Jinro and NesTea. They will return! FAITH BROTHERS!

Yeah, you didn't know him as zergbong then.

Or alternatively, ask any Savior fan who never stopped believing in him for 3 years, hoping he'd make a comeback, even after he got taken off the CJ A-team, only to get their hearts broken again when they found out he was match-fixing.
It could always be worse ^^

If you keep your hope for NesTea through this slump, which is all it is, you will find your excitement as a fan to watch him play will increase. If you remember Bisu's slump in 2010, which many believed to be the beginning of the end for him, especially with all the interviews and everyone getting in his face and generally making the situation worse, the people who stuck with him are even bigger Bisu fanboys because of it. There's still the average Bisu fanboy who likes him for his team, his race, and his amazing godly play and revolutionary PvZ, but now there's also the type of fan who is so dedicated to the player that they will follow him as long as he stays in the scene. Feels good to be one of those fans!

Um.. did you forget Incruit 08?
That's easily my favorite finals along with Jin Air.

You want to explain your position? I'm no bandwagoner. I fully explained the reason why nestea has infinitely pissed me off.
|
Weird. So you became a fan of him because of his play but now you don't like his play so you are losing your affinity for him. It's like the most complex bandwagon claim of all time, its almost understandable because I am assuming you don't really care about personality more just playstyle.
Its like your saying you wouldn't have become his fan if he had began with sloppy play like this I think. Interesting
|
Hi the definition of bandwagon would like a word with you
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandwagon_effect read:I'm not copying anybody by disliking/liking him
But you're correct, if he's been sloppy since the beginning, I wouldn't have been a fan.
Furthermore, Nestea really doesn't have a personality. Sure he has that boss-nerd presence around him...but he rarely gets exposure to western audiences.
I'm taking a liking to DRG more these days, as you can see from my rabid posting on DRG fanclub. DRG, in contrast to Nestea, does have a personality. And yes, sometimes DRG plays poorly, but he doesn't make game decisions like a lobotomized cat...the kind that nestea's been making lately.

a real fan would be fully supporting their idol if he keeps on trying and playing. Saw this quote on Boxer's wing and agreed 100%
