MLG claims to have a lot of big news in store for next year, and I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them was getting Starcraft 2 on TV in one form or another.

...reaching more than 3.5 million unique stream viewers during combined Pro Circuit weekends. The recent 2011 Pro Circuit National Championships held in Providence, Rhode Island, on November 18-20, drew an all-time high of 241,000 peak concurrent online viewers and more than 3.6 million hours of video were consumed over the weekend. Viewers from 175 countries tuned in to the final tournament, the highest number of countries to date. The top five countries watching included the USA, Germany, Canada, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Over the 2011 Season, more than 15 million hours of video were consumed during Pro Circuit weekends.
More than 16,000 spectators attended the final tournament in person and 97,000 people attended Pro Circuit competitions in 2011. Traffic to www.majorleaguegaming.com for 2011 Pro Circuit weekends was also up 225% from 2010, with an average of 641,000 unique visitors to the site each weekend.
Could we really see it in TV? :D

Nice numbers. Gotta love the console handsets though I know they have other games so don't get all pissy. I just thought it was funny.

Ugh.
That is peak dude! AKA At the same time!!! Also, see the average time that was spent per capita (3 hours 0.o) Lastly, remember that there were a lot of BarCrafts around the world with a huge number on attendance to each of them like the ones in Canada!

241,000 seems pretty small, but a lot of niche channels don't do a whole lot better.

The numbers are impressive. The best part for MLG is they can show these very easy to understand numbers to possible sponsors to show just how much growth they had this year.

Cool, not sure if I like the idea about sc2 being broadcasted on TV though, got to agree with DJ Wheats points on the whole TV fiasco, looking forward towards the announcement though.
On a related MLG note, when (if ever) are we going to get the replays from the previous MLGs? I would definately like to study some of the builds/openings.

Hm? 241,000 is not small. That is pretty big for peak. Thats like 100K bigger then dreamhack, and bigger then the average numbers that the mainstream channels listed get. Its not NFL big, but its pretty good.

They have already posted them. In fact on page 1 of the SC2 general forum at the time I am posting this there is a thread providing them.

i think there are just a lot of barcrafts going on making the numbers seem small

I'm well aware. That is not good enough for TV outlets bud. You would need a 0.4 rating (500K+ at least) and the format doesn't crossover well either.
SD didn't hit his number-- he wanted 300k+. I wonder how many unique viewers YouTube brought over.
Still has plenty of room to grow.

They were already released. They were released within 2 weeks after Providence.

Meh. I guess that's concurrent. Still, I don't actually get cable so I guess 241k seems small incomparison to network.

...obviously? Networks are, you know, fucking gigantic. If any web broadcast that wasn't a 1 time deal ever came close to network #'s that would be beyond insane. Millions and millions watch primetime network tv. 10's of millions even.

Did you look at the graph comparing MLG and popular TV Broadcasters? Go check it again!

Even niche channels get more like 500k viewers concurrently, maybe at 4 am on some niche channel there is less viewers than that, but that's pretty much it. More people have tv's than internet + computer that can stream sc2, so comparing these to tv numbers isn't really fair.
Comparing between other sc2 events , this is quite impressive though, so mlg has done pretty well, which is good for ESPORTS!
