That damn skip button for the practice league has been taunting me for a week but I finally clicked it. Could have been a big red button that said no not touch for all I care.
But lets take a step back now. Why am I so nervous and shy? It all started when I started watching day9. Funny amnesia play thought, a good laugh. But ?I kept watching. I said to myself I have that game, had it since release and maybe it can be half as fun as this goofy guy makes it out to be. So I picked my race at random and began lots of 2v2 and 3v3. There my partners could support me and I could hide behind them. But I got better slowly, with watching videos trying different units.
But now I started my first 1v1.. real 1v1(practice still ). Out there in the vast nothingness of space where I imagine all this star craft happens. The game started simple enough, I started out with a GLHF after getting my hands to stop shaking enough to send my drones to mine. I was opposed a Terran player who was nice enough to respond. I had my half baked idea of roaches all the way. I got a few minutes in and a large group of marines and marauders wiped me clean.
Second game I got my revenge. A new terran came but I was ready. Roaches fast and upgrades to follow I won the first battle. My continuing stream of roaches with burrow and upgrades was too much for him! My macro dwindled horribly thought out the game. Turns out I cannot manage 3 bases yet. But it did not matter, I had become victorious, I was playing with the big kids. Later I saw I was match placed me against a silver level player, a shocker to say the least.
Third game added siege tanks to my murders arsenal.
Fourth was protos with air units. What a novel idea flying things are. Those damned things killed me slowly, my poor roaches could do nothing to stop them.
Final game a fellow zerg player was a welcome sight. Well for the first few minutes. I was out roached by the sucker!
I decided to take a break here. I had been out manned and out roached but I had managed to apply what I had learned enough to scrape one victory out. Not only that but I had fun all five matches! My shocker came finally when my placement came in, I had managed silver. How I do not know but I will be working overtime to earn that placement and fight for it!
