I'm rank 100 in my division in the Gold league.
Not a particularly impressive place to start, but, if I was starting from somewhere impressive then this wouldn't be much of a journey in the first place. I have a lot to learn and a lot of room for that learning to take place.
I'm tired, it's the end of the day, but I'm glad that I have a place to begin. With my placement some of the fear of the ladder ebbs away. I was worried that I'd rusted so much that I'd be placed in Bronze hell and be forced to deal with endless cheeses to work my way up.
The ladder is still a scary place though, but, armed with my 3 builds, one for each matchup, I will work on my fundamentals:
Money
With tips from Zoogtar, I'll be working on maximizing my probe efficiency, saturation, and timing things like transfers for my expansions. With a solid economy I can begin to practice my macro. With good macro comes the basis of a solid rise through the ranks. I've heard that the difference between most of the leagues Diamond and below is really a matter of macro, more than anything, and that all starts with economy. Probes and Pylons. Probes and Pylons. (Thank you, Day[9], thank god your mother didn't name you the number J).
Macro
Once my economy gets rolling, I'll need to be spending my money. Letting my minerals float above 1000 isn't acceptable. Neither is letting my gas scoot up past 700. With some work I can make sure that my builds are tight and my macro is in tip-top shape. As long as I'm producing at full capacity I can hang in there with the best of them.
Mechanics
Scouting, attacking, macroing. Doing all of these at the same time requires solid mechanics. I need to use my hotkeys, have precise clicks of the mouse and use the game to its utmost. In order to get my money and macro where they need to be, I need to be able to multi-task more efficiently, and that will only come from improving my mechanics.
The 3 Ms is an apt title for those particular fundamentals. I had to change "Economy" to "Money" to make it fit, but I think it's worth it. Hopefully in future games we'll be able to talk about how I've been improving these Ms.
Thanks for following.
