The beginning is alright, nothing really standing out. I like your main section from 1:00 to 1:30, it's nice. But between 1:30 and 1:50 you lost me completely, and not in a good way. That section does not make sense to me from how the track was developing and where it is going. Redo completely. The little section at 1:56 to 2:02 sounds horrible. I am not sure what you messed up there, but it sounds cheap, there is some strange noise in the background, and the length is off. You should make it longer and give it time to build up, or have a sudden drop, or redo. The part from 2:02 to 2:10 is very good, it makes sense as part of the track and the main melody section follows after. But it's too short .Extend it. Overall it's a decent effort, but I would not grade you higher than 50-60. The main problem is your composition, it sounds at times like you made the sections separately and did not think enough about how they interact with each other. Possibly you may have spent too much time inside the track, as compared looking at it from the outside. Also listen to the people telling you not to use stereo panning -- it's bad style.

WELL, thanks for not holding back! I'm sorry you didn't like the composition. However, as far as stereo panning, you NEED it. The other fellow was saying I went overboard. Obviously, a track can't be mono. On November 25 2011 21:42 Atreides wrote: Not a critic in any way shape or form. Know nothing about the technicalities. Just your average person who like to listen to electronic music late at night while playing video games, watching streams, or surfing TL. I just wanted to say that I like it a lot, listened to it 20+ times and would buy it off iTunes right now if it was there. So hopefully you find that encouraging or something. Keep it up. Of course I find that encouraging! I know I won't get rich even if a label pushes this song, but I'm a senior in college so the more important thing is making music that people like, and if you're willing to buy it, you must like it! Great work! Awesome! I'm glad you got those feelings. I hope at times it also made you want to destroy the dance floor . Add that and it's as good as I could imagine.

I do have one criticism though (I hope you don't mind). It really felt like there was a serious lack of low-end in the track. Obviously I don't have the actual file so I can't give more direct feedback on the frequency range/spectrograph, but it really sounded to me like everything was squished into the midrange in terms of bass. For equipment, I was listening on a pair of Beyerdynamic 770DT pro (250ohm impedance) studio phones, an external 16bit HRT usb DAC, and a Shanling PH3000 headphone amplifier. Note: headphones are a bit too bass heavy to be considered reference class, but still fairly neutral. PS: can I get the actual file? I keep the bass at an average of +12dB for the peak in the key of the song over a ~10 second period. This isn't really how you should mix, and I know that. This is just a quick master. It's the same "amount" of bass in the final master as a lot of commercial songs, but judging gross spectra of an entire track is neither scientific nor musical. If it gets on a reputable label, they'll help with making sure the master is good, everything cuts through, nothing gets squashed, and it's fat. Until then, I think it gets the musical point across very well. But discerning ears such as yours can certainly tell it's not a pro master. And the file is coming your way! Hey, thanks for the reply! One thing I realized almost immediately after posting is that any lack of range I was picking up on was almost certainly a byproduct of compression for hosting on soundcloud (128kbps mp3). The 256kbps file sounds considerably better in that regard, and I'm sure an uncompressed master would be significantly better again. All things considered the mastering is good Best of luck, friend. You can upload any quality you like. Soundcloud caps you on minutes of music, not the size of your files. There is always a moderate compression done by soundcloud which kills stuff that is bass heavy. But its usually too bass heavy if SC makes it clip
