I did see the WASD ad and went to the site, and I do see the ads on the right-hand side (when they're nonflash). So maybe TL could send non-scripted ads to people who don't feel like letting a random ad site run arbitrary code in their browser.

click on some thing every few minutes while it blocks the video (seriously, that was beyond unacceptable)! ads that were way louder than the stream and ear raped you! and other less aweful but still horrible ads. i am getting pissed off just thinking about how much i hated that. yes i would consider disabling adblock for teamliquid, if and only if i knew i would never need to deal with those ads i mentioned above and i knew the TL ads would never be the animated or noisy ones that make it hard to concentrate on reading a thread. as for the idea that i am hurting esports. i respect that the forum forbids insulting comments, so i won't say what i really think about that but i will say i am quite sure i support esports, and teamliquid for that matter. i buy passes to event streams. at least one copy of HOTS is going to be purchased with the TL code on amazon or wherever they will have it set up with. and perhaps most importantly i support the sponsors of streams. all things being even remotely equal i will buy a product that is supporting or sponsoring a tournament i am watching. hell, i still use gomplayer even though it has significantly inferior volume controls to VLC. ------------------ and to be very clear, on the subject of hurting esports, i used to go out of my way to watch games from a certain player. i had followed this player since the beta, i thought he was great. i woke up at 3 in the damn morning to watch him in the first season of the gsl. and then he started ragequiting out of games that he had either seemed to have won, or for no damn reason at all. it was bad enough i wondered if it was another savior betting against himself. the final straw was a compilation video i saw of this player badmouthing his opponents for minutes and acting like a whiney little bitch. i realize that it is a high stress competitive sport and i am especially sympathetic to racial imbalance, but this was beyond the pale. that kind of thing hurts esports orders of magnitude more than adblock, which in my case saved esports for me. i seriously consider whether i want to bother to watch games with the above player in them anymore or whether it is just a waste of my time since i know the player will get rushed in some way, quit and then complain. i have better ways to spend my time than watching that!

I don't have too bad a conscience, though. Liquipedia won't remember my login, so I'm loading two extra ads every time I want to check my watchlist, which is couple of times a day

TL is a community site for some esports, but it does not directly invest its assets to esports. I hope other people blew up over this already, but I stopped reading at this post. Have you heard of Team Liquid (professional SC2 team)? Have you heard of TSL? Both of these are directly invested assets. Have you seen the featured streams/featured events? Free publicity through a very large forum because TL <3s eSports. Have you read ANY of the featured articles? TL pays (either in real $ or eSports dollars) writers for this, not to mention the NON-writer staff (R1CH) and many others that make TL what it is, they have to eat too. It's so worthless posting that TL doesn't deserve money for the niche in the SC2 community. If it weren't for TL I would have never heard of half of the foreigners, much less watch any of their streams. If it weren't for TL I would never have seen GSL, MLG, IPL, etc. So if you think you deserve all of this content for LESS THAN free, well you sir are an ungrateful little fuck aren't you?

They changed the "Don't hurt esports" to "Don't hurt the elephant". Edit: Idk if I'm late seeing this or not Edit2: I like the elephant. The cuteness really helps TL's image with girls imo. Now I'm not afraid to open TL in public!

This can lead to weird situations though. When I'm editing TLPD all of my ads (at least before the change) were "How to disable admin privileges" and "How to see if your man is cheating." I have no idea what in the google algorithm gives me those ads.

We removed the "Don't hurt Esports" thing. It was a complete joke that we thought would be funny. We didn't realize that people would take it serious. I apologize if you took offense. Noooooooo it WAS funny.

On like 65% of pages I see sad elly. On the other percent I get google text ads. Dunno.

Actually it seems like there's more non-text ads after the change, I'm getting like 70% regular ads, 25% text, 5% sad elephant.

It's a minor inconvenience having to watch a 30 second ad when loading up a stream. If someone can't put up with that to help the owners of a site they apparently enjoy visiting, then they're just...I guess spoiled is the right word. Just seems like a dick move.

I really don't get it... edit: just saw Nazgul's post about removing that, wtf? I think the "Don't hurt esports" thing is hillarious. Even though I'd rather see an ad, because i wanna support TL, it still makes me smile everytime I visit the site.
