TL is a community site for some esports, but it does not directly invest its assets to esports. I hope other people blew up over this already, but I stopped reading at this post. Have you heard of Team Liquid (professional SC2 team)? Have you heard of TSL? Both of these are directly invested assets. Have you seen the featured streams/featured events? Free publicity through a very large forum because TL <3s eSports. Have you read ANY of the featured articles? TL pays (either in real $ or eSports dollars) writers for this, not to mention the NON-writer staff (R1CH) and many others that make TL what it is, they have to eat too. It's so worthless posting that TL doesn't deserve money for the niche in the SC2 community. If it weren't for TL I would have never heard of half of the foreigners, much less watch any of their streams. If it weren't for TL I would never have seen GSL, MLG, IPL, etc. So if you think you deserve all of this content for LESS THAN free, well you sir are an ungrateful little fuck aren't you?
I agree wholeheartedly. You'd think being THE hub for everything sc2 related they would either 1. sell out 2. go power crazy 3. cash in the profits. But TL has done nothing of the sort and has stayed to its roots. Besides, that "Don't hurt esports" banner thing was a inside joke. People started threatening "You're killing esports" to such minor acts it became a meme of some sort.

I have adblock disabled for teamliquid, but the problem is with noscript.
I have javascript also enabled for teamliquid, but I do not like javascript from 3rd party websites (specifically advertising and tracking groups that use bugs and such) running on my computer.
Because of this, even though I have teamliquid itself whitelisted for adblock and noscript, the ads themselves are still stonewalled, due to the mechanics of the ad. As opposed to displaying an image with a hyperlink, they either use embedded objects (i.e. flash) or javascript which then links images.

Yeah I don't think the "e-sports" elephant is significant to me.

I don't like to be brainwashed, and aparently what many people say advertising is nothing else than brainwash.

I block ads through hosts file so I can't really turn it on or off for anything. -shrug-
Also, I have seen Ret browse TL on their stream and the ads were blocked so I don't feel too bad.

Anyone who uses adblock and also visits teamliquid on a regular basis is, quite frankly, a douchbag. And no, I couldn't give two shits about whatever reason you might have. That's just how it is, a pure douchbag move. Nothing more, nothing less.

I think I'm heartless that I keep adblock on.
|
I deactivate AdBlocker completely on TL, and NoScript allows most anything here, but because of how NoScript works it does block the occasional rare ad leaving me looking at a sad elephant. Hopefully it's no big deal; I still see ads the vast majority of the time.

I haven't adblocked TL in years, but I'm seriously considering it with the new layout. With adblock on, TL pages load instantly; with it off, I often have to wait 1-5 seconds for every page to be rendered while I wait for ad servers to respond. Why can't the page load first while the ad servers are contacted in the background? This is seriously ruining my TL browsing experience.

This can lead to weird situations though. When I'm editing TLPD all of my ads (at least before the change) were "How to disable admin privileges" and "How to see if your man is cheating." I have no idea what in the google algorithm gives me those ads. I feel like its obligatory to link this. Where have all the good ads gone? Anyway I don't block TL but something is throwing it off. On like 65% of pages I see sad elly. On the other percent I get google text ads. Dunno. Actually it seems like there's more non-text ads after the change, I'm getting like 70% regular ads, 25% text, 5% sad elephant. That's interesting how it changed for you. I'm at the point where I am going to start uninstalling things starting with my ad blocker to make sad elly go away. It interrupts the flow of my spamposting to see a sad elephant over half the time.

I turned off my adblock since the latest update

I use ad-block everywhere! It's simply a question of my mental heath. Now.. I don't wanna "hurt Esports" but I'd rather pay a small monthly subscription for an add-free VIP membership like some other sites do. Elly was cute, but added to my block-list right away :p

I could understand it a few years ago (not necessarily on liquid, but on other sites) where ads started to go completely insane, with popup after popup and ads that played noise, and all kinds of other ridiculous things.
But i feel like there was generally a negative backlash against ads like that, and now ads are all a lot more toned down.
And i'll never use adblock. Sites have to make money somehow, these things aren't free.

If I don't have to click on the ads for TL.net to make money, I'll disable it. However, if I must click on these ads, then I will keep my ad block going. I hate 3rd parties. I hate their scripts. I hate their lag.

How much does TL get per year per person? I'd donate 10-15$ a year to get ad free, or i'd pay 50$ for a shirt and ad free.

They don't share that kind of data as far as I know

Didn't know how to disable individual websites. Thanks for this!
