1Well, my Korean has failed. QQ But it’s my own doing, and there is still time to work on it. I’ve been busy. My main thing is I need to make a plan and set aside time: a little bit every day. In some ways it would be good to have structure. But that’s hard without a class, which I cannot attend. In any case, I have “basic Korean” by Andrew Byon. It’s a good book. But is dry. That’s not my main problem though. IT gives a list of vocab, and then goes into using it in the lesson. I understand the grammar, but not so much the vocab. I think my main problem with it is the lack of cognates. Compared to Spanish, where you can refer to TONS of nouns, which are pronounced super similarly in the same alphabet, Korean uses hangul to express cognates differently. Furthermore, there are very few cognates. In any case, my big problem is an inability to use my time effectively in studying vocab. I’ve used anki and the like. I just can’t stick with it. Dunno if it’s just my weak will Also have listened to some of the talktomeinkorean.com stuff. It’s all audio, and there are worksheets. Should I use these two in conjunction? The problem with that is you learn expressions first grammar later. But maybe that’s not necessarily bad? Same as with Spanish, if I can get to a basic level, I can read and gain knowledge in the language.
2) Rainmeter: Just got rainmeter 2.1. I set up a basically stock setup. Any skins you guys would suggest I add to it? Any hate? Love?
3) I just removed bumper stickers from my super conservative grandma’s car which is now mine. No longer featuring “freedom isn’t free” and “proud to be an American” and “lifetime member of the American firefighter’s association” there is room for more. Any good places for bumper stickers? I don’t necessarily want one, but I’m super curious. Tl.net bumper sticker anyone?

The rainmeter is stock, as you said, but overall your desktop is still pretty nice. I'm sure you've been around the monthly wallpaper threads, but ask around there, and I'm sure they're refer you to some awesome wallpapers/rainmeter skins

I'm fairly certain you need to get a teacher, or join a class for Korean. It's a fucking difficult language to learn, and you're never going to be able to learn it without someone explaining to you the various grammatical differences. Furthermore, as with almost all language text books, they will give you a form of a language that is probably far more polite than the form used by native speakers, so you might end up sounding off. I'd just imagine that it is nigh on impossible to teach yourself Korean through the internet and a textbook.

No language is difficult when you love them.

It's very possible to learn some Korean off of the internet. Find a drama, or girl group you like. Get some shows in Korean. Watch them with subtitles. After you hear certain words repeated, you can begin learning usage and context as well as meaning. Supplement with actual lessons like from TTMIK and your Korean can get to a pretty decent level. GL!

It's a cheap trick, but I remember words with stories or by combining words I know. Maybe that can help you?
Take a walk = going to a mountain with a book = san chaek ha da Washing your hands = Cleaning the shit off = shit da (not exactly but close enough) Above = going down a slide "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" = we ae
Eventually when you cheat like this long enough you just remember the word and don't have to cheat anymore, but I've found it's almost a necessary starting point for me or else it's in one ear and out the other.

Go download the omnimo suite, it does a GREAT job emulating the metro theme and they're a lot more noob friendly now letting you customize it more without having to go into the ini file itself.
I like to promote coming up with an original theme and going through with it.
This is my setup right now. All of the stamps is actually from white baron, but i changed the pictures and made a million copies for each shortcut. used the angle command to rotate it. Took a lot of fiddling but it was worth it.
These two guys also do some great work http://minhtrimatrix.deviantart.com/art/Speed-165136605 http://xyrfo.deviantart.com/art/iPad-Clock-2-for-Rainmeter-168350738?q=&qo=&
edit: check up simple sentence too

It's not impossible to get to a moderately passable level of Korean without tutoring. There are enough resources available to be able to understand the language pretty well just with independent study; tutoring just accelerates the process and lets you get a chance to form some sentences of your own and see if they're awkward or whatever. As long as you try to consume material with approximately natural speech and stuff you can be at a good place for starting actual production.
Also, memorizing vocabulary is just something you have to do. I personally don't use any programs, and I just set a goal to memorize so many words every day. If you challenge yourself with the amount you need to learn you won't get bored by it, and if you just set a specific amount of time every day to do it it becomes more of a routine than a chore.

Problem is to find a tutor. I have the money. It's not like I'm super rich, but I'm making like 130 bucks per weekend refereeing soccer/football games. And i don't really spend it on anything >.>
