White dude eats Korean food (with pictures!)
Last Sunday I went to a Korean BBQ restaurant with seven of my friends. This would the first time any of us would be eating Korean food. Now I'm the only one in the group that watches or plays SC2 and watches/listens to anything Korea related so the whole experience was fresher to them. I already had some idea of what to order (SOJU!).
For those who have never eaten Korean food you might have a better time going with someone who has experience with Korean cuisine or just some Korean dude/chick, they'll probably know what to order. The one thing I noticed was the fact that we ordered TOO MUCH FOOD! I was shocked that we actually got so much food for fairly cheap ~20 bucks a plate. We might have ordered some dishes that were meant for 2 people.
The restaurant was Insadong in Coquitlam, B.C. If any of you Vancouver boy's want to go eat I would suggest going there. They have three big private rooms which makes it comfortable for groups of people who are eating Korean food for the first time without regulars looking at you with a confused look while you try to read the menu.
Picture time:
This was Pork Bulgolgi and Chicken Bulgolgi which 2 people had ordered. I love the idea of cooking your own food at the table. A lot of Portuguese restaurants have hot stone's to cook steaks on them so most of us were comfortable with the idea of preparing our own meat.
Assorted tempura for all to share. Salmon, prawn, and fruit.
This was my dish, Bibimbap. I would have to say this is the perfect entry dish to the wonderful world of Korean cuisine. They give you spicy paste so you can make it to your liking. Side note: impossible to eat with glasses as they become perma fogged.
I think this was beef bulgolgi and my right arm. Once again a lot of food for one person. He is a big boy so he finished it by himself along with some udon noodles (he didn't eat my arm).
Well I hope I didn't make you guys too hungry. If you've never had Korean food get out there and try it!
