I got into the show a few weeks ago. I had heard about it before, but the whole thing seemed a little weird to me back then. I tended to ignore it, thinking each to his own. It was really the first post in this thread that convinced me to try it out for myself.
I started with episode 7, and it worked for me at least. I agree that the first two episodes aren’t a good starting point. I think I may have actually liked the first two more after already viewing several other episodes, and being familiar with the characters.
The show is very character driven, and one thing I really like about it is that the character aren’t one trick ponies personality wise. A lot of shows tend to define characters through a single prominent personality trait, and have that character be about that trait and only that trait every time all the time. I like that the characters in this show are somewhat more complex than that, and it makes it feel like they have actual personalities. I felt that may have been slightly missing from the first two episodes. This is a very character driven show, so if you don’t like the characters, chances are you won’t like the show in general either.
I’ve now watched the entire first season, and I’m looking forward to the second one. I even read through Past Sins, and I usually can’t stand fanfiction of any sort. So congratulations, you have another recruit.

Cheers! and you are certainly right about the characters being quite complex compared to what you first might imagine, funny how a show where the characters have a purpose in life branded on their ass that they manage to be more complex than a large majority of characters in other shows / cartoons, makes me wonder :p
Here's a fresh one though, uploaded a couple of days ago... I fucking love it because it features one of my favourite childhood movies, bunch of my favourite games, and my favourite TV show about talking ponies. And "Rarity as best pony".
