So if you take a look at my ladder ranking over the last couple of weeks: http://sc2ranks.com/team/6824259
You will notice earlier this morning my rating tanked hard. Real hard. That's because I decided to play from 11:00PM to try and push from 3rd to 1st. Now, at my current rating I play a mix of platinum and diamond players. And usually I am doing ok. I had a bad night and was doing bad splits (which starts me off on a bad mood) and doing stupid things like moving my army into an M&M ball instead of a-clicking. I usually out macro, expand and micro people in my ladder which is why I was steadily climbing in rating and ranking over the past couple of weeks.
I was doing OK, trading wins for losses to about 1AM and then suddenly just started getting raped game after game after game. I do not think I was playing poorly, of course I was testing out an aggressive harass 1-base build against Zerg which would hit and miss. But even in my PVT and PVP match ups I was getting destroyed.
Then I began to wonder... Is it because at around 2 AM people in Asia/Europe might be logging into NA servers through proxies and destroying people? Or maybe the pool of players are a little more hardcore and dedicated at 2AM. I just don't know.
Going from 3rd in my ladder to 34th. I did not sleep well last night.

You could also be more tired at 2 AM and playing worse.

I tipped off my current loss streak by playing after being jetlagged and awake 28 hours, while sick, and I hadn't played for 3+ weeks.

a good solution to your problem would be to quit sc2 :> tehehehe

Even if you don't feel tired, there is a point where you start making stupid decisions/go on tilt more easily and your play deteriorates pretty quickly(at least this is what I've found to be true). It is possible that Europeans started to play at that time, but I doubt that is what happened. All things considered it may have just been that you got really unlucky, and unfortunately that just happens sometimes
Also, it will almost certainly be beneficial for you to watch the replays of the games you lost(if you haven't already). That way you can see whether you were getting unlucky or if you were simply making fatigue-induced and silly decisions!
Hopefully you find that you can play better next time you queue up! If not, it might be worth it to just take a break from playing SC2 for a while to recoup. Sometimes that's all you need!

No to the 2am influx because -
1) Playing from Korea, a large number of people will have noticeable lag (but only on their end, not yours) which helps to balance the skill level out in terms of reaction time and stuff which they excel at. 2) Europeans at your level are pretty much the same as Americans. I have EU and AM accounts. 3) You're just tired.
Oh, and I used to play mostly late at night. Skill level doesn't change much, except higher up, where at one point at least the really hardcore people tended to show up more often.

I don't understand why people always blame better people playing from different ladders for their loses. It's like no one understands the concept of MMR.

do europeans at platinum/diamond play on us server?
|
I play on NA in the middle of the night when I wake up at odd hours sometimes and frequently get wrecked. More because I might as well just be bashing my hands into the keyboard randomly when I try to focus and play at 4am.

Ya i dont think the average platnium and diamond player would likely have multiple accounts much less multiple accounts for diffrent servers. I think its just a fluke.

Sometimes you never know the kind of people you can run into, in WoW arena teams would on purpose meet at strange times to Que up games against people from other areas. I personally did this during the time i played at high ratings. I think its more to the point of possibly people in different areas are used to different styles of play and or just general skill difference. In WoW i can say for a fact we would Que up against players from totally different areas and there was a skill cap difference. That was accepted practice even a few the 5's teams i was on (best 5's team on the server/ top in battlegroup) it was common to do.
I think more in SC2 since how the regions and everything is setup its more running into a different play style or type of player. Iv been getting my sleep back in order and recently have been playing during normal hours and the amount of random cheese and just aggressive play i run into is sooo much greater. I play at a rather casual level in plat so thats just my two cents

My theory is that at these odd hours the probability to run into hardcore players is just much higher. The only people who can play at these hours either dont work, are on vacation or just dont care about other things (work, school).

I feel for you man. Earlier, I was rank 4 on my league. I decided to mass ladder late at night/early morning and I dropped all the way to rank 38...

I'm a mid-masters player, I have a SEA and NA account, I only play on the NA due to SEA having a really bad pool of players, normal time for me to play would be 6-10pm, which is 1-5am for most NA places.
So yes, it is possible you hit an oceania player who's also playing in a good time for them, not 2am -.-

I used to have a theory that at certain times, only the best players would be playing. However, my theory was shot when what I thought was the "easy" time became hard and the "hard" time became easy.
Now, my opinion is that the NA server is pretty even across all timezones.

I guess I'll just stop playing when im tired lol. Glad I am not the only one on this fail boat :\

i had a similar loss situation due to being tired. To the point i was captaining the failboat.
Lost to a 6 pool ... followed by a loss to a 7 pool ... then followed by a loss to a proxy 2 gate ... followed by a loss to a 2 rax scv all in ... followed by me going on tilt trying to proxy 2 gate someone and losing horribly (im bad at "cheese") ... followed by me messing up my build so much in the next game i got supply blocked at every single cap ... followed by me getting a glass of water coming back to the pc playing 1 game playing standard winning then going to bed.
sleep is good!

I've only done two 4-game laddering sessions between 1~4 AM, and I haven't done too bad in terms of win/losses, but I could definitely tell a huge difference between my mentality during the daytime and during the night time. I'm just way too tired to focus if it's that late.
