Hi TL,
I've created this blog in response to a big trend I've noticed among streamers, and in hopes to remedy that: more often than not, they're listening to music I listened to months before. Now, I'm no music elitist, it's just my job involves listening to 8 hours of music a day, and said music has to keep me motivated for that amount of time. I always need fresh, good music, so I generally burn through 8-10 albums a day and keep 1-2.
As far as genres go, I listen to mostly anything, but I'll restrict it to music I listen to while I work, which I also listen to when I'm gaming. So here goes :
Weekly Gaming Music Vol. 1
Electronic
This week I had the pleasure of catching the Brooke's Brothers on BBC's Essential Mix. It's a solid mix of Drum and Bass, Electro and Dubstep that has actually lasted me the whole week! I highly recommend grabbing this. If there is anything I guarantee will motivate you and skyrocket your APM its THIS. I haven't turned it off for a week.
As far as singles go, I'd highly recommend DJ Fresh - Louder, Swedish House Mafia - Save the World (Zedd Remix) and Diplo and Datsik - Pick your Poison
Alt/Indie
Undeniably, my Indie track of the week has been Bombay Bicycle Club - Shuffle - Indie Rock with a pinch of Foals, but I'd highly recommend their album Flaws if you're digging their sound as a whole.
Another album to watch out for is Givers - In light. It's an awesome indie pop album similar to Passion Pit and Foster the People kind of stuff.
Last for my Alt/Indie section, I'd highly recommend Radiohead - King of Limbs. I know it's old news now, but I don't think it got the attention it deserved and honestly it's a fantastic album, which I'm still listening to today.
Metal/Punk/Hardcore
I haven't been into this scene as much lately, but I'll tell you right now hands down the best album I've gotten all year is Trap Them - Darker Handcraft. In your face aggressive black metal riffs coupled with converge style hardcore riffs, it's a terrifyingly awesome album to game to.
In more of a Punk/Hardcore vein of things, All Pigs Must Die - All Pigs Must Die is a Hardcore super band with members of Converge and Anthrax to make the most crushing riffs I've heard in a long time
Hip Hop/Rap/RNB
Lately I've had a soft spot for Earl Sweatshirt- EARL. It's another Odd Future member's debut and only album from last year and it is SUPER tight. I listened to and got bored of Tyler's stuff but Earl is on another level, trust me on this. It's a bit obscene but any Hip hop lover will recognize how solid this kid is.
I hate to double post Odd Future, but another one I highly recommend is Frank Ocean - Nostalgia, Ultra. Think Chris Brown singing about hitting Novacaine out of a bong at Coachella over a deconstructed Radiohead beat. He's got the cred of the rest of the Odd Future crew, but chooses to express it through singing unlike his other group members.
Well that'll do for Volume 1. I'm planning on releasing a weekly list of either two albums per genre category or a collection of singles if I haven't heard any good albums. Hope you guys enjoy and happy gaming!
