It all started when I was 9 years old. I was constantly going over to my friend Siddhartha's apartment to play videogames. I did not have any game systems at the time, because my dad is like that XD. But Sid's dad was an avid gamer at the age of 44. So it was an immense pleasure to come over to his house and experience what I thought was the "next generation" (meaning Diablo 2 and other old games). Here I got my very first experience with an RTS game, Age of Empires 2. I played it, and it quickly became my favorite game. I became a terror with the Persians. I was actually pretty decent at the game until one day he broke the disc and so that was the end of that little excursion.
ohhh you broke it didnt you Sid
So anyway I had not played for a very long time afterwords (RTS wise, that is) and so when i was 10 and my friend started getting all excited about these weird videos with some dude named Dustin, I didn't give it much thought. I saw what looked to be a few weird velociraptor thingies chasing an armored glowey dude. This, I would later learn, was a battle report for SC2 and the zerglings of David Kim where about to engage the zealots of Matt Cooper. It took me many years to realize this XD. But either way, it is how the name "starcraft" first got into my head, and as it turns out, that 10 minute encounter with that battle report was very significant a year later. That time rolled around and it was Christmas weekend. Only a few more days until Christmas, and my parents had absolutely no idea what I wanted. I didn't either for that matter. But they were getting desperate, and I was pressured into the first few things that popped into my head. This is about how the conversation went:
Me: "Wow I cant believe Christmas is almost here!"
Father: "Yeah. What do you want for Christmas, Jeff?"
Me: "Well Father I honestly have no idea :/"
Father: "Jeff, say something helpful or I swear to GOD I wlil smack a kitten(a phrase I still use today )
Me: "ummmmm I dunno, i saw this game at target, it was next to something called starcraft..."
Father: "You want starcraft? Great, thanks!"
Me: "No, I didn't say I wanted it I said there was-"
Father: "Jeff, the kitten."
Me: *silence*
Father: *silence*
Me: *silence*
Father:... ... ... ... "beautiful day out, huh?"
So Christmas rolls around and I get this random game that I only got because I heard it's name a year ago. I got a game I didnt really want. Funny how that worked, hurrr durrr. I did not even know that it was an RTS. And that is part one of SC and Me. I might do part two depending on feedback
OH YEAH we don't own a cat, he wasn't threatening any actual living creature there XD
