So I was reviewing my match history and realized that the last game I played on Monday was against a masters terran, and I won! This is the first time it has matched me against a master's player so I was pretty excited. It was also cool that it was a macro game where my natural was under siege while I was getting dropped all over until I busted out with brood lords for the win, it was nice to have won a straight up game without some cheesy bullshit.
So then on Tuesday the next several games were also against masters players, first 3 were zergs who all handed my ass to me with banelings, then I got a masters terran and protoss and was able to win against both of them.
The terran win was kind of a joke, he successfully bunker rushed me and killed my natural hatch but I came back and baneling busted him where I had 12 drones to his 30 scvs. I'm sure he was just overconfident and waiting for me to leave, not a win I can really count on or be proud of.
So after winning those additional two games against master's players I proceeded to mass games hoping to get promoted sooner rather than later (don't ask me why, it's just stupid vanity) and had a lot of really stupid losses.
First of all, I don't think I've won against a single masters zerg. Almost all of them opened banelings while I open speedlings and I am terrible with the micro required to hold that off. I'm not sure if this was just a random trend or more of a normal thing for higher ranked zergs, so I'm not sure if I should just start working on a roach opening or just work on my speedling micro.
Then I had a really stupid loss against protoss on close position shattered temple where he opened two gates that I foolishly ignored until the two zealots showed up at my base and then wildly overrated with 10 lings. The game of course went downhill from there.
So yesterday I ended up going 3-6, I was definitely tilting with trying to get easy/greedy wins without putting enough thought or effort in my games. Today I will come back with more humility and the desire to learn rather than rank up (which is want got me to this point).
I also think a big part of this has to be credited to me quitting smoking for over three weeks now, so I am able to play for longer and with less rage. So this is also kind of a stealth quit smoking blog and I also wanted to share my nerd joy of getting better at starcraft.

i was gonna abandon this blog after reading the first line. Im thinking come on one win vs a master player is not gonna get you in to masters :p
personally id always open roach in ZvZ, its just so superior vs ling and bling and obviously is equal to roach.
I got my first chance in about 4 days to ladder and im trying to hit diamond - played against my first diamond player last week, a terran, who did some kind of shitty all in as most terrans do so i lost and thats the only one ive vsed so far
fingers crossed for both of us

Aw man, I've been matched with masters several times, but I've lost to all of them, and none of them have ever gone to macro haha. It seems that masters are good at doing early pressure, or cute gimmicky stuff that lets them get small advantages. I beat masters in customs though, sigh....I know how it feels man.

Well not one win for sure, but it is as good a sign as any. Same thing happened to me when I got to platinum and when I got to diamond. I would get matched against people from the league above me and after a while of winning against them regularly I would get promoted. So as long as I can keep improving I think I will make it.

The only problem with always opening roaches (Which is actually something I always do in ZvZ ) is it can be hard to move out if they go mass speedling. The instant you move out you either get lings running into your main/natural or they surround your roaches and own them. So it can be a precarious thing. I still love the roach opening in ZvZ thought because it's super safe usually, you just have to be mindful of stuff like 1base all-in speedlings from 2 hatches lol.

Ditto! I've been getting all sorts of Masters players lately. Also having a lot of trouble vs zerg, though its as a protoss. I've been horrible pvz for what feels like forever, even when P was totally imbaimba!
When I beat my first Masters zerg in a straight up game a few days ago, it was probably the happiest I've ever been about a win. Well that and my in-mineral-line proxy gates earlier today! :D:D:D

Man, you're way close. That's where I was. I played one master, lost, and then like three days later finally play another and win. Pretty soon I'm consistently playing masters, and starting to win. Even though I go like 10-7 against them, I get the promo pretty quick.
If you need a ZvZ practice partner (you too Bibbit), feel free to PM me or message me in game. Dalguno.707

I played you once! I was all excited about playing the TL guy from the Andy situation. But then we got close spots Temple and a consequently shitty, unfair game. D:

I think there's a reason most Zergs use Blings against people who go for Speedlings....
