PVT Warp Prism Expand(WITHOUT OR WITH the balanced speed Warp Prism BUFF)

Now the Warp Prism's speed buff comes true, but for my observation it doesnt matter actually whether the Speed BUFF exist or Not. So the build wont change for a predictable length.

THE REPLAYS HAVE BEEN UPDATED!!!

Hi, everyone! I’m a Chinese Protoss player finding myself in the Master grade in both NA (rank 2)and Kor serve(rank within premier 25), and in Grandmaster grade in both southeast Asian and Chinese serve.^^

Currently to most Protoss players, PVT is a match-up which Protoss doesn’t usually prefer in HotS, and the well-known most difficult match-up. Thanks to the addition of Hellbat and the boosted Medivac what make the Terran’s drop even more aggressive. Meanwhile the powerful AOE of Hellbat is very strong against Zealots, which leads to a relative advantage even against the High-Tech Protoss combination in late-game.

Even if the Terran executes a Reaper expand or Rax FE(which almost dies out), the MM push with 2 Medivacs on 10 Minutes bench also counts for a great threat to the Protoss, amount of players would hardly take a third or even get killed by the drop due to lack of multitask capacity. I developed a strategy based on a mass of my ladder games and the play of proper TOP Protoss in the world Korean progamer sOs. It can prevent the Terran dropping and lead to a thrid. Now lets get down to it.

The strategy counters the Terran regular Expand strategies. Since most popular TVP opener in Ladder is Reaper Reactor Expand, I would follow that to finish the tutorial.

I picked up a rep to show the details. MAP: Derelict Watcher TE(note: this is a ladder match so the map goes WITHOUT the balanced speed Warp Prism BUFF)

  Build Orders
  9 pylon
  13 Gateway
  15 gas*2(2 probes per gas)
  16 pylon
(before 4:55 Build 1 Mothershipcore and 1 Stalker.
  Take the natural).
4:55 26/26 Pylon, and build Robo, then 1 Sentry
5:45 31/34 Forge, and extra Gateway
When the Robo finishes, keep chronoboosting 3 Observers and pylons according to the supply
7:00 43/52 Warp Gate finishes, warp in 2 Sentries and build 1 photon cannon in the main.
  7:18 45/60 3rd and 4th Gas
  7:40 52/60 Twilight Council. Upgrade +1 Armor
The first Observer should at this point fly straightly to the Terran’s main(to see if the 2 bases or else)
8:40 59/68 3 extra Gateways, research Charge and build 1 Warp Prism
9:05 61/68 2 extra Gateways, upgrade +2 Armor and build Templar Archives
9:45 warp in the first round of units in your own base, the Observer outside would spot the push of Medivacs and MM. You would make the Warp Prism fly over to the Terran’s base and warp in the second round Zealots/Chargelots in his main (normally the secound round), cut his production and punish his economy.

Note: The Terran Army would gather in the center of the map. If he goes for an attack anyway (you should spot that in time with your Observer), use the Sentry and the Overcharge on the Nexus to defend (regularly an Archon also needed), and dont stop warping in Zealot in his main to maintain the harassment.

The Defend in your own base

If he decides to go home and rescue his SCVs, load 4 Zealots to Warp Prism and retreat. The next step could be to harass again when the timing is right or to use Warp Prism during an critical engagement.

Pull the units out to the choke of natural and take a third, chronoboost the Psi Storm research to defend the Terran’s follow-up against the third.

You can also meantime protect your main and natural with Observer/Storm/Cannons denying his drop (Since he must divide his army to save his main, he wouldn’t get quite a number of army in the front which means you could not take the DOOM drops into consideration ,just warp in a HT in the main in combination with the Cannon and others Gateway units and deals the drops).

Also the High Templar with Storms in your main force will secure the third with 100%, so build the second Forge and switch into Colossi. Then with 3 AOE Techs and 3 Bases economy you could surely crush the opponent.

In this ladder game the Terran chose to consistent push towards my natural with his mechanics. At the time you just need to warp in billions of Zealots in his main and wait for taking the third. Since you crushes his economy , just prevent his onslaught and keep your base safe, the situation would be where a 2bases(P) contra only 1base(T) in your favor.

+ Show Spoiler +

The accomplishment of +2 Armor makes the Zealot harassment even more hard to clear, and the Storm reinforces the defend in your own base with a great power.

+ Show Spoiler +

Cause the Terran didnt retreat and rescue his base, the Zealots warping in could do whatever they want and make an incredible mess.

Pull back the Terran’s last wave with Nexus cannon and warp-in in the base at the same time.

The Terran SCVs have to swing their own drill only to deal a terrible economic bankruptcy

No way to stop the Zealots harassment with +2 Armor, he could only type gg. The pic shows a brave warrior who archive 7 kills.

Notes:

1) Why build 1 Sentry after 1 Stalker in early game?
1. It counters efficiently the early Marine push. With a forcefield on the ramp and Nexus Cannon, the Marines get back without gaining advantages.
2. With Phoenix’ Hallucination created by Sentrym you can spot the move of the Terran army easily.

2) Watch the position of 3 OBSERVERS:
The first would be at first in Terran’s main and then above the choke of his natura;;
The second would be near your main on the way where his Medivac would come.
The third would above the choke of your own natural.

3) Why build a Photon Cannon early in the main?
In case he does a Widow Mine+Marine drop. You will not need a Cannon in your natural because of the Nexus Cannon+Observer+Stalker and you will hurt your own economy if you build an unnecessary extra Cannon.

4) You will send the Warp Prism to harass after seeing his army moving out. It would be easy for the Terran to guard if you start too early or too late.

5) You will keep chronoboosting the Upgrades in your Forge to make your Zealots get the +2 Armor when harass which make the attack more powerful.

+Pro:
This strategy can efficiently deal with the push and multitasked drops, make you in a positive position, which gives the Protoss players more options.

-Con:

This strategy could more or less only counter to the Terran’s Fast Expand Opener. It will probably not work if he goes to MECH or others.(Few Terrans could do a Hellbat drop into MMM like INnoVation, it requires quite a great macro and multitask capacities)

sOs vs Bomber GSL RO16 on Daybreak

Replaysnew!
1. VS Normal Expand
It's just the match which Picture in the post shows

2.VS Multi Reapers
In this match the Terran executes a multi reapers which will not allow him having even a Medivac during 10 min push after being hold off

3.VS Widow Mine Drop
A regular Terran Op where he will get 2 widow mines and few marines at around 7:00 benchmark. The Photon Cannon plays quite a important role in defensive strategies.

Thank you for reading and bearing my poor English as well . If you have any questions please reply. Or you just want to correct my expression also welcome!

I will try it for sure, looks like a cool strategy...
You need to add replays so that we can see how you counter different early aggressive terran builds.

Thanks for sharing, man !

This seems very similar to Sase's Wings of Liberty style from 2012.

In the early with the Nexus Cannon and 2 Gateways warp-ins you could manage to counter. And thank you for the tips! I'm working on the rep now!

With the addition of the Mothershipcore you can deal with varieties of rush easily instead of a gamble.

You could just expand and build up your economy without anxiouty and archive a better economy in mid/late-game

After you've already committed to high templar.

If he does a 2 bases all-in, spend all gas you have to merge Archons, and warp-in few Zealots in his main. The only goal you warp-in in his main is to prevent his main mining. To defend your natural, activate the Nexus Cannon and Forcefields and Archons of course

Sorry that I don't have much to add as a lowly diamond eu toss, just wanted to say thanks for the awesome writeup. Your English is great and it's cool to hear from someone from the Chinese community.

This looks amazing. I want to thank you for making this as well as the detail you put into it. I'll definitely be adding this to my list of builds.

I really like that your build includes getting 3 observers I love them for drop defense with templars.

This build is ridicolously good, i do this all the time.

Also at poster above me, none decent is going to make 1 viking before medivacs because there might just be a warp prism waiting to backstab him when he moves out. The goal of the warp prism is simply to disrupt his medivac timing and force him to play more passively while doing some nice damage and getting back map control. If he doesn't have medivacs your chargelot army will kill him anyway, and he can't pressure your third nor drop you.
ModeratorProtoss all-ins are like a wok. You can throw whatever you want in there and it will turn out alright.

Thanks everybody above who supports and provides addvises ^_^

When your warp prism is out ,he wont get a viking out while during the 10 min push it's nearly impossible he pump out viking, viking is against Colossi, normally he will get viking after 11-12min. And before that your Warp prism and warp-in just simply crush him.

Thanks for this build! I'm just starting to play Protoss after 3 years of Zerg and this is one of the two PvT builds I'm using. I've been beating some Plat and Diamond Terrans with it even though my mechanics are not good enough to hit the timings just right.
