UPDATE 1: Added video below doing an Inferno Ghom kill with our 4M gear UPDATE 2: Adding videos of Act 3 quest clears with our gear - uploading in quest order UPDATE 3: Added video below doing an Inferno Rakanoth kill with our gear UPDATE 4: Added quick demo of my playstyle with my main gear while farming (Bonus 3)
Hi guys,
Yesterday I recorded 3 videos, and I wanted to share with everyone a very nice way to balance your demon hunter for CHEAP. You don't need fancy Natalya gear, nor any 10mil per equip gear, as many people often say.
With this balance, you don't need to be a "GLASS CANNON DH" or a "TANK DH," but rather you are tanky and you can do good damage. For this guide, I used a naked level 60 Demon Hunter, with a 5M gold budget. This is ALL you need to do well in Act 3.
Higher Budget Players: If you have a high budget, and would like a reference for a good balanced gearset, here is a link to my main DH gears: http://i.imgur.com/ypSrm.jpg
I explained in detail what kind of equipment to look for, what stats you need for each equipment, and so on in Part 1.
I documented the entire process and split it in 3 parts:
Part 1 [1 hour]: Collecting gear using a 5M Budget (used 4M) Equipment Screenshot/Summary + Costs: http://i.imgur.com/OuBjI.png + Show Spoiler +
Part 2 [20 min]: Description and short demonstrations of skills/specs + Show Spoiler +
Part 3 [20 min]: We kill some elites, deal with reflects, and finish Azmodan with our gear! + Show Spoiler +
Bonus 1 [14 min]: Ghom - A good strategy and skill spec for killing ghom with our 4M budgeted gear. + Show Spoiler +
Bonus 2 [8 min]: Rakanoth - A good strategy and skill spec for killing rakanoth in Act 4 + Show Spoiler +
Bonus 3 [8 min] MAIN GEAR - Natalya Set Speedfarming: 7min = 8 elite + 2 act bosses + Show Spoiler +
Part 4: Act 3 Quest/Elite Walkthrough - Annotated with elite kills 1. Skycrown Battlements + Show Spoiler + 2. Stonefort + Show Spoiler + 3. Keep Depths + Show Spoiler + 4. Machines of War + Show Spoiler + 5. Siegebreaker + Show Spoiler + 6. Heart of Sin 01 + Show Spoiler + 7. Heart of Sin 02 + Cydaea + Show Spoiler + 8. Arreat Core + Azmodan (This is also Part 3 - one of the first videos recorded for the guide!) + Show Spoiler +http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7_Y4irSR3c
Enjoy, feel free to critisize (I imagine I'll get mostly flames lol), but I'll answer any questions you guys have.
Thanks!

It's good of you to post this. I'll watch it later after work. How long is it?
I was feeling good too when I rolled DH and only spent 100k gold on my whole gear, and was able to clear Act 1 and 2 no problem...
The huge jump in difficulty is outrageous, so it's good that 5 million is doable.
|
The first part goes over describing what you need in every piece of gear, so that's why it's 1 hour long.
The second and third parts are 15-20 minutes each. Part 3 is the end-result.
|
Thanks a lot for this, been looking for something like this. Havn't been sure what to do with DH since the nerfs, and I had to take a break from playing, so this guide sounds perfect to me back up to speed.
|
I guess its not too late to roll DH and roll!
I've got probably 30ish mil on my wizard and act 2 is very, very rough...
|
Great initiative!
I've been waiting for the "general [class] build" threads to spit out guides for specific builds.
Youtube is a great media for the first presentation, but maybe a writeup would be nice as well. When actually following this guide, it would be easier to be able to come back and carefully read what you need on your shoulder rather than scrolling through a long youtube. Also a lot easier for you to update when/if changes are needed.
We should have a stickied thread linking to all guides also.

Thanks for your feedback, I'll create a screenshot of all my gear + their respective costs, so it gives you an easier time.
I understand the first video is long, hopefully the screenie will help.
EDIT: Updated original post with equipment screenshot + costs.

oh.......wow. gonna watch this way in depth holy crap thanks

I just went and tried this whole experiment.
While it works fine for azmodan and the area before him, as well as outdoor areas, when I actually tried to collect 5 stacks in Stonefort or Keep Depths it failed pretty badly as you dont have room to kite like you do in the video.
I ran into several wallers with either invulnerable minons or mortar which totally stalled me, as they reduce yous DPS to nothing, and block any kiting while forcing you to blow every defensive CD.
I even tried throwing a few pieces of better gear on, but it still just couldnt handle enclosed spaces at all.
I'd like to see you try to actually do these areas or an actual reasonable farming run with wallers other than those joke harpies. As is, this DH is still not nearly strong enough to to farm A3 more efficiently than A1, and is therefore kind of useless.

can you kill ghom with this buid? my dh stuck on him now, what kind gear I need to pass him?
|
I swear I only spent 1.5-2 mil on a whole set to clear act 4, but nice initiative to help people get started.

I'll definitely take you up on this, and I'm willing to do another video (Part 4) demonstrating that we can get 5 stacks as well, beginning at Stonefort. but you are right to say that areas right on space are a lot harder, and I think so too

However, I did not want a 3 hour video of browsing the AH, 1h is already long!
In my video, I realized that I had quite a bit of money leftover, so I bought some more expensive gloves, rings, and amulets. My main goal was to stay within the 5M budget because I think it's a reasonable amount, and even with the expensive rings and the 1M amulet, only 4M was spent

Can you do this for other classes as well?

The skill build is: - Marked for death - Shadow power - Companion - Preparation
If you would like to see this build kill ghom, I can upload a video commentary tomorrow (sleep now!)

Just watched em, thanks for making these, pretty nice stuff for the prices.
I'd also love to see it go up against inferno ghom if possible.

The problem I have with these "budget gear" guides is that all of them just grab the cheapest choices within their requirements. While that's obviously the point of the challenge, it doesn't reflect the quality of gear people following your guide can get.
For example, the closest match to your amulet on the AH is double the cost (2 million). And I can't even begin to count the gear I've bought cheap while just browsing for gear upgrades, only to find it worth a few hundred thousand more the next.
If you want to do it for personal challenge, by all means, snipe good stuff without a second thought. If you want this to be a general guide for anyone at any time, if you can't see any other items that are as good within 50k or 10% (whichever is higher) of the asking price, assume that someone else won't find something similar for that cheap.

Thanks for the videos! I found the gear buying guide to be very useful. Once my DH alt hits 60 I will put that to good use. Its nice to know you can gear for that cheap! Obviously everyone will not be able to do it so cheap. But its nice to know you can find good value if you know what to look for.

Did you even watch the video? It is pretty clear that he used the tools that were given to him (playing with the parameters of the AH features of max buyout, minimum stats and category choice) to help him find these 'cheap choices'. A lot of players do not even know how to use the AH properly and I find that not only did he do a good job highlighting the important stats to look for in each piece of equipment but he did a great job explaining that everyone is susceptible to the randomness of the AH (advantages/disadvantages of shopping during peak/dead hours).

Well, I just searched the AH about 2 minutes ago and found similar matches to his amulet for about 1 million. 2 of them had 1d11h remaining on them. He clearly explains that when hunting on the AH there is a factor randomness but an indicator (but not the end all be all) of a good find is the the expiry timer. I can't even begin to count the gear I 'thought' I bought cheap while just browsing for gear upgrades, only to find it worth a few hundred thousand less the next day.
He did his entire search for all the gear in under one hour. If anything, the fact that he was able to find these cheap deals should be accentuated because a budget-minded player will have more time to do hunting on the AH.

This is a great general guide for everyone - showing great use of the tools given in the AH to find good deals. Why should he assume that someone else won't find something similar? I actually think he should assume that others will find something even better compared to his prices based on the fact that everyone else is not constrained by time and should have patience.
