An Obituary
Here we write obituaries, words of mourning and celebration for our dear departed friends in TL who, at one time or another, in a manner great or small, graced us with their venerable presence. They will all be inlcuded in the op as soon as possible.

18 minutes after joining SC2Necro made his first post thanking Excalibur_Z for writing the league and ladder guide. One line posts were a hallmark of his time with us, polite feedback was not. It took him 27 posts to receive his first warning.
Mostly his time was spent in tournament threads typing stream of consciousness one liners. Outside of tournaments he rarely returned to a thread, he simply typed his thought and left. Adding a lack of imagination to what was destined to become a forgettable posting history, SC2Necro showed even his insults were thoughtless as he variously called three pros "worst", "bad" and "mediocre".
It was as if he knew his typing was a waste of everyone's time, even his own. And as his sub conscious raged at this circumstance a plan was formed. Not a good plan. Not a plan that made sense. Certainly not a plan that involved more typing than usual. But it was still a plan! No one can take that away from him. He planned to be remembered!
Manbat! Bagbot! MotTown!
Nobody is clear on what was going through BWNecro's mind when he accused the entire TL community of having carnel knowledge of a certain moderator (1). From the spelling we can only be mostly sure who he meant. Apparently aware he needed to cut his losses with writing, spelling, and perhaps the entire English language, he switched to pictures to get his point across. Pictures from his work as a filty pirate man-whore.
There was a great conflict with in SC2Necro. He had a desire to communicate coupled with the knowledge his thoughts weren't worth the time taken to write them. In his blaze of glory he showed they weren't worth the time needed to spell them.
But though it was tinged irony he achieved his purpose and gave us a message to remember:

Now thankfully after his first he didnt wait another 5 years for his 2nd only a few months seperated his next posts which all occured in the The Contraception Coverage Debate in the U.S. Now one can only speculate why this topic got dark's attention perhaps it was of particular importance or he was Rush Limbaugh fan both unlikely since he was from sweeden and we all know knobody lies about that but the point remains we were once again graced with his presence.
Now he got pretty aggresive in that thread with defending his conservative beliefs and we even learned that his real name was erik throught his attempts to get to know aminoashley. And then it all came crashing down today. After 5 years and 13 glorious posts in three threads erik was done with tl.

In many of his posts, he seems so reasonable-- noting, for example, that the viper would be an expensive unit. However, at the slightest hint of resistance, he immediately lashes out and you get a taste of the beast within. A brooding, horrible beast-- sort of the opposite of Beast from Beauty and the Beast, since he's actually pretty ok on the outside but crazy on the inside.
What path does a man take, though, to end this way? Surely he was born as we all are, mewling and weak into this world, hoping and clinging innocently to our protective parents. Surely he was once innocent?

...actually, that's not so bad. Yes, he's complaining about PTR and ultimately about a change that was removed before the patch went live (projectile) and/or was considered generally a buff (increased dps, decreased duration of fungal), but on the other hand, he's presenting his arguments, incendiary though they may be, in a well-thought-out, generally typo-free, and highly legible and organized manner.
Not bad for a first post. What happens next? Well, like most people on TL (and myself, for most of my TL career), he lurked more. It took another major patch (again, affecting Infestors) to bring him out again for meaningful dialogue. And out again did he come!

Straight-up balance whine, the strongest kind, but subtly contained in an OP. How else would the blizzard devs hear his opinion if not in a thread he starts himself? Mani quickly shuts it down, but in its brief 20-minute lifespan, the thread precipitously accrues 2 pages of argument. Keyz1 is spurred on!
He improves his posting. He makes a quality OP. He places it in the right forum. He tries to make a compendium of zerg strategy changes in patch 1.4, and begins by contributing himself. It is actually an honest effort to really contribute to the site. The thread-close changed him. He was reformed.

...nobody replied to his thread. At all. Disoriented and sad, he had finally come to the light-- he wanted to contribute. He wanted others to contribute. He wanted to be part of something great. He finally opened himself up, and didn't flame, or whine, or troll. He tried to be a good poster. And in this, his moment of greatest vulnerability, when he wrote his first quality post, and his first quality OP, he came knocking at the door of TL strategy.
Nobody answered.
He was alone, abandoned, rejected.
He gave up.
He never posted again in Strategy-- from then on he posted only in LR threads, speculation/patch threads, and the HotS thread. His rage was palpable. His bans, warranted. He knew he was forsaken, he was one of the horde, and instead of rejecting it, he embraced it. He descended into the darkness with his arms wide open, and the darkness embraced him. He smiled at this acceptance, at not being rejected, even as the shadow twisted his smile into the grimace of a disgusting flaming troll.
The shadows took that little piece of his soul, that hopeful self that started a reasonable OP in the strategy forum only to get ignored, and twisted it, feeding it lies, darkness and hatred. It did not destroy hope, for hope is never destroyed-- but it twisted it into something worse, something malevolent. At last, after months of poisonous LR posting, he emerged, a new man, a different man. The battle between light and darkness was over. He went back into the Strategy forum. He posted again, and brought the darkness with him.
Here is a man who has failed us, TL, and yet, this is also a man we failed. Plexa, in his infinite wisdom, has issued but a short temp ban for this fellow. He sees that Hope is not yet dead in his soul, even if it HAS become twisted. He hopes that with just a prod, a reminder of the path that is righteous, he can bring Keyz1 back from the brink.
We can only hope, that Keyz1's hope can yet pull through, that he can shed that self that posts in the LR threads and rages at patch changes, and bring back that Hope that shone through so briefly, that tried to start a thread to help others.
I hope.

Why? Well, let' see what I can do now, vs what i cant do.
Can't:
Fungal Growth to stop a fast moving air unit. (Good luck landing it unless he stops.)
Spawn infested Terrans to take out ANY unit in time, before they run away.
Stall an enemy army for 8 seconds, while I spawn more larva units and regroup an army.
Give my Broodlords the correct range to steer away from enemy units in time.
Keep units AWAY from my Broodlords so that they can keep killing rather than flying away.
Stop Protoss Units from using blink to catch up to my Broodlords.
Bring half the amount of infestors needed for a stall vs an enemy. (More gas)
Point and click an area of effect, yet High Templar can.
Cast instantly anymore.
Can:
Kill Marines and other fragile units, 2x faster. (If my fungal lands.)
Do 30% more damage to armored units (10~points)
Cry at the fact my fungal can miss.
Help make my infestor survive longer because he has a whopping 20 more points of HP.
No longer think of an infestor as a defensive unit.
If you noticed it yet or not, any good player uses infestors in a defensive manor at the moment, especially when they are going T3. The nerf indirectly affects the other zerg units and the priority of making infestors, period. It also indirectly affects macro games in general, as well making it much harder to defend against cheese or air units in general. Not only does it do that, but it also indirectly affects the other infestor skill: Infested terran, as they are very slow, and also slow to spawn.
And anybody who says it will help kill other units faster now, should remember that 150 gas can be used in much better ways (that's like 6 roaches) in a offensive state of mind.
Edit: Want to fungal an opponent to get your roaches in position? Sorry.
The infestor is NOT an offensive unit, it was never supposed to be.

Let's do a severe nerf and make it so that you can't NP massive units. This way we can reduce the range of NP to 7, making it used a lot less anyway or at all, which in the end, will be the final result of a compromise the community will agree to after hearing the first nerf.
7 Range.....................just remove Zerg from Starcraft 2. heh.

I'll start.........
Mass Thor, NP lasted 3 seconds total, dead.
Immortals are being massed, and early roach timing attacks are tougher as well. So many builds with Immortals + Collossus, roaches getting melted.
Protoss Deathball, infestors danced like fools behind my army because the Collossus wasn't in range. Couldn't even NP an Immortal at one point because the 6 range + roach infront of the infestor.
Everything feels like it's back to Roach/Hydra/Corruptor or something. I'm seeing it everywhere now.
There's no way zerg players can get out Ultralisks before there's at least 4 Collossus out either if they're going for a Ling/Ultra/Infestor build. Teching to Spire or Infestors is now a decision you have to make carefully. Can't have both until 3-4 base, and infestors won't save u vs mass collossus numbers earlier on.
Blizzard wants us to flank in order to get a NP off, they make it sound like it's easy
NP is utterly useless right now in imo. Can't say more than that.

Basically, state what your new effective counter or technique is in whatever situation or unit comp you've faced and an explanation right below that. I'll add it to the list and put your post # next to it.
Remember it can be a tactic you use, a unit composition you find working well, or a build order for specific units @ different times which help defend.
It can also be a specific move you make on a specific map in order to counter for ex. a Terran Hellion/Marine drop.

Terran
Protoss
Ex. Early Warp Prism Drops - Add a Hydralisk Den @ 7-8 minutes after scouting a robo. Post #2
Zerg
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Basically, state what your new effective counter or technique is in whatever situation or unit comp you've faced and an explanation right below that. I'll add it to the list and put your post # next to it.
Remember it can be a tactic you use, a unit composition you find working well, or a build order for specific units @ different times which help defend.
It can also be a specific move you make on a specific map in order to counter for ex. a Terran Hellion/Marine drop.
...nobody replied to his thread.
I hope.

*This thread is inspired by Stimy, and all of his manifestations. It is a discussion of moderation, and there are no reprucussions for posting your opinion in this thread.
There doesn't seem to be anything new here. Just another Stimy rant against the running of this site. A site which he has consistantly called a sewer, yet he spends more time on than almost anybody else. But, Stimy is not a stupid fella. He is able to analyze a situation and pick it apart. Heck, the guy is a self-proclaimed genius.
Reading what he wrote, and then looking back on my own moderation over the past couple months, I felt it was necessary to Stimy's beef some airtime. Undoubtedly I will be seen as a hypocrite, discussing his ideas after he is gone, but since I didn't pull the trigger I don't have control over that. There are only three people on this site that can unban (administrators), it is not a feature moderators can use.
So here is where I adress Stimy's comments about the way I moderate. Also, I think this is a good chance to get the forums input on how things are done.

While Twisted says this:
While Nazgul says this:
Waxangel believed nobody should be banned no matter what.
This is point #1. There are many ways that the rules are enforced. However, when one moderator decides to ban someone, very rarely is it questioned by the other moderators. Usually the group is in agreement. Sometimes it is questioned, and we discuss it. Sometimes it is reversed. Moderators are human and get in bad moods as much as anybody else. The reason people are chosen to be moderators is usually because they have the ability to say 'I was wrong'. Something not often seen on the internet.
For myself? I close a lot of threads. I personally believe that our forums are busy, and should be kept clean of things that are avoidable, searchable, irrelevant, or illegal. This is what I have done in the past 30 days in regards to closing threads:
- stimy- too many ppl (closed with flame)
- checking icon spam thread
- 11 year old wants a date site.
- one sentence terran imbalence thread
- japan vs usa that was highjacked by chuck norris (I should have left this open)
- warez x5 (including one where i made a chuck norris joke... I am so ashamed)
- spoiled results/nalra is chobo (I flamed killashark here)
- repeat thread
- old thread revived with 1 word
- stategy post with no strategy x2
- liquibet beef x2 (the results were not going to be changed no matter what)
- vod upload request
- football thread, moved to a new one
- ftw=wtf
- watch korean tv in america? no.
I personally closed 21 out of a 132 threads. With most, I gave information or a different place to look. Some, I posted with warnings (especially warez). In at least four, I closed the thread after flaming the topic maker and/or posters. This is something that Stimy points out as being a problem.
As Drone says:
This is essentially what Stimy says. I am fully willing to admit that I will flame people and close topics that I don't agree with. Sometimes I feel I am right, and other times I feels that I make mistakes. The problem is that Stimy seems to think this forum is something other than a very popular clan site. He seems to think that I get some kind of charge out of it. He is wrong. In the end, this site is Team Liquid.
So please, if you wish to comment about how the site is moderated, if you can suggest changes, or have questions, this is the thread to do it in. Do you think too many threads are closed? Too many people are banned? Not enough?
I am not naive enough to think that Stimy will go away. He will be back. In fact, he is reading this right now. So, let's clear the air now for when he makes his return.
Discuss.

It is both intriguing and saddening to think that the Sega Saturn emulator was what started Charlie on his amazing journey through TL. During his time, he was always in need of something, whether it be hacks, beta-keys, or just an ear to listen. By 2008 Charlie already ammased 10,000 posts. It is key to remember though that while we know of his main account, and of his SpoR account, Charlie admitted to all that he first started trolling TL back in 2003 and since then was banned on more occasions than anyone can seem to count. In this blog Charlie admitted to at least 15 other accounts including the ever brilliant offer to make love to all of us with the name:
If you dig through TL enough, you will soon find that there are very few threads and forums in which Charlie didn't grace with his presence, but in old forum 18, Blogs, was really where he shined brightest. Whether it was his own creation or commenting on others, Charlie had a knack for getting attention. On one warm June afternoon in 2007 Charlie decided that it was time for him to create his TL blog, and during his time with us he was able to post at least 150 blogs between his various accounts. With awe inspiring titles such as HEY FUCKERS where he whines for a birthday thread, Peeing Question where he informs us with insight about his urination issues, and lol @ my drunken GF's voicemail: where Charlie shares a voicemail from an ex-girlfriend, Charlie seemed to always be on the front page.
As mentioned above, Charlie seemed to have a split personality. Some people claimed him to be a nice guy, while others wanted to kill him. Nice or not, Charlie was prone to the occasional outburst, sometimes aimed towards a race as in FUCK PROTOSS, toward a company as is Fuck You GoodYear, but normally aimed towards other insecurities of life:
With such a long and complicated history, digging up every mod note would be quite the feat, but this covers it pretty well.
My personal favorite bann-able offense came in the TL Hacker Database when Charlie gave us his most in-depth pearl of wisdom with this post:
Whether it was fixing a mouse, being MacGyver, calling out FakeSteve, being reminded that he is not FakeSteve, informing us about Muslim justice, or teaching us that his president is black, CharlieMurphy always had the best interests of humanity in mind. Our dear friend CharlieMurphy was even concerned with the sexual health of both males and females on TeamLiquid.
There is so much depth to CharlieMurphy that it is s shame to not cover it all in this write-up. Please friends, come together and post your favorite CharlieMurphy/SPoR moments, and next time you feel the need to ask, "Who is CharlieMurphy," you will come here.
