Fix Your Mouse For Life. Since I got a camera I thought I should share it with everyone and help them get more life out of their mice. Enjoy!

Good luck.

PS- the last 4 pictures were taken from google images and sclegacy.

Edit - I also recommend Artosis's guide to removing the weight inside your mouse. http://www.sclegacy.com/features/hardware_logitech.php/

2nd Edit - I also recommend calling logitech and having them send you a new mouse if you are still under warranty. Its totally free. If you are and they send you a new one this will hold you over until then.

I am going to try and call them about my mice, see what they will actually do for me for what prices.

I'm having trouble finding the contact numbers or support line for warranties over 30 days though. Where is their (800) number?\

1 800-231-7717 Consumer Sales, telling me to call long distance to 702-269-3457 Mon - Fri, 6am - 6pm PST for warranties. Thats Las Vegas, Nevada Area Code.

Heh, Thats really friendly customer service..

Phone Numbers

I hate talking to these robots that ask you to say things on the phone.. " If you are using Windows say: Yes or No.. If you are using Macintosh say: Yes or No...

Now I'm on hold its 5:55pm, lets see how long I'm on hold.
Ok its 6:02pm been on hold for 7 minutes now.
6:07pm picked up now, 12 minutes of hold.
Giving location where I bought the mouse and how long ago.
Giving phone number Model number, P/N number, and serial number.
Switched primary and secondary mouse clicks>mechanical problem.
Giving address now.
Checking inventory for more mice of the same type, they don't require me to return the mouse.
6:16pm on hold again.
6:17pm off hold.
Brand new mouse (not refurbished) sending by mail they cover shipping. The new mouse stays under old mouse's warranty.

Let's see how long it takes to ship.

-Update 2-21-07 Received MX310 in the mail.

It is cool that they would send me a new mouse. Its still not hassle free but its worth the time. Like I said this fix guide will hold me over till then and it works for all mice not just logitech.

That's pretty good. Any idea if the same applies to the Logitech G series mice? Not really too bothered about opening mine up as I'll probably replace it when it starts going weird (eventually).

On the upside, the G5 has a customisable weight thing on the outside so no need to open it up to change that!

you should blog-archive more of your older posts, charliemurphy. they are usually amusing/informative and lead to nice discussions.

edit: i gave this guide five stars, cos i resurrected one of my mice a few months ago following the instructions.

Oh, yea I just copied my old thread and a few posts from it. Just thought It would be nice if anyone ever looked at my blogs.

I think I'll put mostly blogs that are helpful information or that people can learn from.

Dementus, yea I think I'll archive some more of my older posts If I can find/remember them. Any recommendations?

I have this problem with my earphones dying on one ear every 8-9 months as well. I don't know if its from the random dropping, pulling, or whatever that causes it. But it has happened without fail for the last 4 pairs I've boughten (just like the mouse click wearing out) over the years. Its weird too, its always just 1 ear, and you can like move the wire around for a minute and hold it there to get it back to the right sound.

So now that it just recently occurred with my latest pair that I bought in June 07, maybe I'll find a way to fix it and make another post similar to this one.

Oh my fucking god this happens to me with every pair of earphones I've ever owned. The left ear always just randomly dies after a while

Just get 1 pair of earphones in the 70$+ range and you are set for a long time. The sound is better too.

Do you guys pull on the cords trying to straighten it out after you've coiled it around your iPods or w/e? If you do that too much the wires inside will loosen and it will cause shit like this to happen

Even coiling it at all is detrimental, if you exert force on it while doing so. Make sure not to pull at all while coiling it. People always wrap guitar cables around their arms, I want to kill them. They wear out even quicker because people are so careless with them.

Yeah or I get up, take my earphones out, drop them, swivel my chair, and hear "cracK~!" as they fly from the jack they're in at Mach 5 before embedding themselves in a wall.

Just to note I've done this about 3-4 times to my MX310 and that seems to be the limit as its gone back to shitty mode a day later. I guess the plastic is too brittle and frail now.

bumped for adding these reviews and the grip thread:
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=82573

I have used many mice. I have large hands. I use fingertip grip mostly. I prefer smaller/light mouse.

My Ranking:

Razer Viper:

Best gaming mouse I've had so far. Opti 1000dpi, Very light, Smooth struts on bottom, narrow & not heavy, and no extra bullshit buttons. I don't really like the rubbery grip clear line across the side but I don't really touch it anyways.

Logitech MX300:

Oldschool mouse, opti 600 or 800 dpi (cant remember), light when you remove the weight, same as above but slightly wider.

Logitech G3:

Laser 2000 dpi, same look as 300 but heavier and has extra buttons for web browsing.
Great mouse for browsing and still pretty good for gaming.

Logitech MX310:

Opti 800 dpi, used this mouse for years (had 2), pretty solid, never really liked the ergonomic shape but its pretty similar to the MX300 but slightly heavier (I think you can remove weight) and side buttons. Great for browsing and pretty ok for gaming.

Logitech MX500 & 510 & 518:

Opti 800dpi, used these mice for a long time, All pretty much the same, never liked the bulkiness or shape, heaviest of all these (even with weight removed), has side buttons for browsing. Good mouse for browsing not so good for gaming imo. PS- the only difference I found between these are the colors..

And of course I've gone through lots of cheapy opti mouse in the downtime between other mice.
If you must go with one of these the best one I had was something like 'A4 tech' and it was grey kinda slender/long and light opti mouse with 800dpi I think. Pretty light weight as well.
looks kinda like this:

PS- I currently have G3 and Viper plugged in simultaneously and I switch between them for gaming/browsing.
The G3 has much higher sensitivity.

PPS- If you use my mouse button fixing guide/blog the MX300 is the hardest to fix. And I haven't tried opening the Viper or G3 yet to check for weights because the screws are under the struts (but I think they don't have any anyways).
