I'm not sure how many casual team players are out there as we all know there is a very strong emphasis on the 1v1 map pool and balance. For those of us who enjoy simply sitting down with a friend or 2 and have some fun laddering in the team leagues there has become a lack of variety of maps.
According to liquipedia there has been no changes to the map pools of any of the team based match ups (2v2,3v3,4v4) since season 4 of 2v2 and season 3 for 3v3 and 4v4.
Is it too much to ask for a little more variety from Blizzard as we are now in season 7. Can they not take a few moments of their time away from 1v1 maps (which they already kind of doing by implementing user made maps) to create a few more team maps.
All I'm asking is for Blizzard to share the love around the several multiplayer options that they implemented into their game rather than just 1v1 and the odd custom map.

As much as I love playing the game. I am hopeless at 1v1 and really do enjoy playing Team Games. Whether it's after a day at University or after work at night. A couple team games with a few mates and things is usually quite enjoyable.
However I too am with H4rlequin. I think it would be nice if we had a few more newer maps in the 2s, 3s, and 4s map pool. Playing on the same old maps have become really boring and some maps (e.g. Toxic slums) it's really hard to defend your allies on.
Would be nice to hear other peoples thoughts about this.
Cheers!

Although i am the 1v1 type, i do think having better team maps would be nice. The only problem is, making them balanced.
when making 1v1 maps, you have to make sure its balanced for ZvZ, PvP, TvT, ZvP, ZvT, and PvT. in 2v2+ maps, you have to make sure its balanced for a TON of matchups. ZZvTP, TZPvPZP, TTTZvPZTZ and so on. it is much much MUCH harder to balance those maps out than to balance 1v1 maps.
Although it could also be the match up which would be imbalanced (I've seen games where its ZZvTP, and its literally ling bane roach against hellion immortal. terrible terrible damage.) so you cant really fix those.

i only play team games so ye :p

Blizzard just needs to have another map contest for team maps. There aren't that many map makers that make team maps, but I'm sure people would make some good team maps if there was a contest. Blizzard is finally figuring out how to make a good 1v1 map pool, but for some reason they are unable to apply the same concepts to team maps.

Considering the current 2v2 map pool this isn't a problem since balance seems to be for the most part ignored.
I'm not going to speak about 3s and 4s maps because they just aren't fit for balanced competitive play. However, in my opinion actually making reasonably balanced 2v2 maps is definitely possible. Since there is no professional 2v2 scene, there is no real way to test the maps and make them balanced for all the various combinations of matchups, however to make a reasonably balanced 2v2 map you really only have to consider one. A team with a zerg versus a team without a zerg. If the map is balanced for this matchup all the other matchups have less difference in the units composition of both teams that it should be balanced.
Note that by balanced, I mean balanced for the limited knowledge of 2v2 gameplay in general. Since there is no 2v2 scene you can't balance maps down to specific builds like in 1v1, however you can definitely balance them in general and blizzard is failing at that.

Currents multiplayer maps on the ladder are pretty terrible, even 2V2 ones, you basically can't expand after your natural and they are very cheese/1base play oriented. It makes 2V2 very boring, I play in diamond with a friend and we basically get all ined every game, which is not really fun as we are both 1V1 players enjoying macro play, and as the maps are really small and expansions hard to defend, cheeses are really powerful.
I watched a bit of the 2V2 tournament casted by HD and painuser that Protech won, and they used some maps that seemed really nice, with defendable expansions that would allow for late game play. Blizzard could really use maps like this on the ladder, that are suited for long term play without being so big that you can't play agressive styles. They don't even need to worry about real "balance", as it's just impossible, just make maps usable for both macro and agressive play so that everyone can enjoy multiplayer and not be forced to 4 gate or 3 rax every single game.
As suggested above they could even just pick the best maps of a community contest... If I record correctly, the last map they added are lunar colony and magma core, which are both pretty terrible (natural right in front of the middle, further expo super far from main..), so maybe the community maps would be the best bet :/

So I may sound like an idiot for saying this, but what if we tried 1v1 maps for 2v2, with one player being in the main, and the other being at the third/ natural? I think that could produce some interesting games.
The quality of 1v1 maps these days has excelled far past the quality of team maps. I'd like to see some worthy ones. I also agree that they should not be "balanced." The usual tank range/ positioning should apply, but other than that just give players the option to play macro or aggressive and we'll do the rest.
I think if we want a change like this we have to show Blizzard that we want it. Make team maps, and maybe they'll consider it.

I could make some 2v2 maps... Would they actually be looked at though? :/

Anyone have any ideas on how we could get Blizzard to take notice? It's good to see that there's a lot more people out there too that would like newer team maps

I think the maps would be a bit small for positioning 400/400 armies, even beyond the obvious problem of needing to wall-off and merge armies if you're not a zerg.

100% agree with the OP, the team maps in the ladder pool are boooooring. Guys like me who play a lot of 4v4 (for fun) kind of get the shaft because we have been playing with the same map pool since Season 3.
I also make maps, and I've done some team play ones, but it seems so pointless since 1. Its impossible to get 8 people to test your unknown map 2. The ladder pool is immutable thanks to blizz.
It wouldn't be hard for them to implement some sort of voting system, perhaps you have a week in between ladder seasons (or an alternative game mode) where you play on random maps and then vote if you liked the map or not.
I'd be happily chugging away at more new team maps if I thought they had a prayer of seeing some play time.
and since we're self-promoting here, check out my 4v4 map, Sand Ocean. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=318328
