So last night I'm playing this 2v2 on WGT12-Sin Gaema Gowon. I'm GrandInquisitor, partnered with NormalGeek. We go PR v PT.
The things to notice -
1. I almost (VERY NEARLY) steal purple's (T's) gas early on. His SCV literally gets there one second before my probe.
2. Yellow steals some minerals from NormalGeek, but purple doesn't do the same to me.
3. I made bad building placement and end up first trapping my goon between the core and the gate, and then later (after their attack) due to my other gates. My suitemate walks by at this point and asks if I'm going to make a shuttle, I think about it and say "Why the hell not".
4. When my nat nexus is destroyed I'm considering gg'ing until NormalGeek points out they probably have no cash. I go carrier tech, spending almost all my money (saving a little bit for interceptors) and we think we have the game won.
5. Turns out that yellow has been afk for a while and he suddenly wakes up, sees my carriers and charges at us, then says gg.
6. I attack purple, then notice he has BC's. At this point everyone is pretty much out of money, so NormalGeek spends the rest of his cash on goliaths.
7. I attack purple's nat but get ambushed by BC's and lose all but one carrier to yamato.
8. After some indecisive clashes between gols and BC's, purple apparently is frustrated and launches an all out attack. He loses his BC's but does eliminate my carrier. Purple now taunts us, floating the buildings to places gols cannot attack. NormalGeek has no starport to make a wraith.
9. At this point the game looks like a draw. HOWEVER, I suddenly notice I have 106 minerals and that those little patches of 8 minerals scattered around the map are MINABLE. I use my shuttle and one of my remaining probes and pick up all the minerals, hoping to make a corsair.
10. Turns out there's only 3 patches, meaning I have only 130 minerals, 20 short for the corsair. At this point we're both depressed and thinking it'll probably end in a draw.
11. At this point I suddenly notice that I still have my gates up and running. 130 minerals is JUST ENOUGH to make a goon. Combined with my shuttle, I land it under his floating buildings on those little islands on the sea. In most places I have JUST enough room to land and attack his buildings into the red. Soon after purple realizes it's gg and leaves.
What I simply can't believe -
1. I had 130 minerals at the end - just barely freakin' enough for the goon. Had I stole T's gas, or if T had stole my minerals, or if I had made one more probe/interceptor it would have been a draw.
2. The ONLY reason I made the shuttle was because of newbie building placement. I really probably wouldn't have made it otherwise.
And of course...
3. Who the fuck would ever think those 8 mineral patches would actually lead to the win?!
All in all it's not a gosu game but I still think it's hilarious, not to mention how everything just barely managed to work out with the minerals.
Replay (use PenguinPlug for more funniness)
EDIT: It's also fascinating how at 3, 6, and 9 there was always just barely enough room on the islands for a goon to be squeezed in to attack the buildings.

Sounds like you had a cool game. I doubted those minerals would ever be used but still =]

108 minerals should be enough to make 2 temps->archon

I doubt the archon has the range to attack the buildings. Besides, I had no temp tech.

thats how stupid people are to leave mineral patches free :O
when i always see people leave 2/3 small min patches at their expo's, i go 'damn..... that stupid move can change the game'
EDIT: yay 2500 post

if you had temt tech you could pwn BC's ez with carriers

so do progamers leave like ~100 minerals in their main when they transfer the last workers out deliberately? It happens very often, i always thought as a spare or something in case of a long game.

Yellow was a jerk. He had like, 3k minerals and left.
|
He didn't mean those patches that are on expoes, he meant patches that are there as decoration, just watch the rep and you will see that.
Replay was ruined for me though.q

Purple could have floated to bottom-left, no?
|
Yeah if purp was smart enough to float to bottom left it would have been a draw

Hmm, I think the gols on the cliff could have reached it. In any case would have seen it and shot it down. Will test it later...

saving minerals in main is like admitting to yourself that if you get the minerals right away you'll probably not use it very wisely, you will most likely need the minerals anyway :S
though having 25 probes at one exp with many minerals and like 12 at an exp with not so many minerals is quite understandable
|
and besides, there were probably 100 other things that you did (or didnt) do in this game that couldve costed you those last 5 minerals... :/

Off topic. Gummi are you the same gummi that posted the Reach getting your probe owned thing ? Great stuff !!
On topic. Nice game and rep. Fun to watch, considering when you're in game you sometimes pull in some crazy moves.

Well if purple had floated to extreme bottom left corner, he would have been untouchable.
However, he could NOT have done that without passing through territory that we could have hit his buildings on. I had obs scouting the map - I doubt he could have sneaked a building all the way down there without us noticing and damaging.
