Dust 514 PS3 Exclusive
As many of you should be aware, the Team Liquid forum community has had a very successful chapter in the internet spaceship mmo game known as Eve. CCP, the company who makes eve, is set to release a new game this summer called Dust 514. This game is a first person shooter that is linked directly to the Eve Player base. Basically, while thousands of Eve players fight over star systems above, Dust players will be on the ground fighting it out for the planets. What makes this unique is that both groups will directly and indirectly impact each other.
What is Dust, or are you trying to make me play another Halo/CoD ripoff?
Dust 514 is a sort of MMO Shooter. While there are some inevitable similarities to bigger named games of the past, there are several a good reasons why Dust 514 has been winning "Most Innovative" at pretty much any trade show they go to. Here are some key points to the game.
+ Show Spoiler +
1. Game Matches matter. While Dust does have a traditional auto matching system, the true magic lays with taking player contracts. Contracts are made by Eve players to assault or defend planets. While in the past only spaceships were used to conquer systems, planetary conquest will be a huge key in taking over new systems.
2. Combat Classes Revisited You may be familiar with the combat classes or kit type systems in CoD or the Battlefield Series. Dust 514 takes a whole new approach to kits. Instead of grinding out thousands of death match games to unlock your fancy new rifle, Dust will use a modified version Eve's skill training system.
This system works very simply, whether you are playing or not you are gaining skill points. You use those skill points to purchase new skills, like more damage, better armor, or better vehicle handling. Theres about 7 years of skills to go through, however when you do play matches you get pretty decent chunks of skill points depending on how you performed in the match, this cuts down that time significantly but still specializing is key.
This allows you to specialize, develop goals, and make your character unique. Perhaps you want to make your character an expert pistol shot with the ability to fly the most advanced air craft in the game. No more grinding or getting frustrated that your kit doesn't have access to that one really cool side arm you wanted.

3. Customization Customization doesn't just end at developing your personal kit. Vehicles will be a major portion of the game with over 26 vehicles planned. These vehicles range for fast scout vehicles (think Halo warthog) to different tanks and eve aircraft. Also these vehicles can be customized by changing out their 'fittings' you can use this to adjust what kind of weapon the vehicle is using as well and adjusting its speed and armor. As long as you brought the supplies with you, these fittings can be adjusted on the field allowing you to change tactics.

4. Cross Game interaction Interactions between Dust and Eve go both ways. Eve players need to control planets/disrupt their enemies and Dust players need isk(money) to replace lost and destroyed equipment and/or purchase upgrades. However the interaction doesn't stop there. Lets say a dust group is running into a sizable obstacle, for example an obnoxious tank that just wont seem to die, no matter how many times you charge at it. No problem, you can call for another Eve player to bring out whats called a Dreadnaught (think :Battlecruiser operational) and bomb the site from orbit. Or perhaps on the other side of the equation, your adversaries are bombing YOU from orbit. The planet you're on may have been upgraded by the current owners to have defenses against orbital attacks, controlling those defenses can allow you to destroy *permanently* some eve players shiny new ship hes raining death down upon you with.

5. You wont have to play Blood Gulch 9000 Times The Dust map system is modular. While at launch you only temperate planets will be available to fight over, this will involve nearly 6000 different permutations of maps. Additionally the goal is to continue to add in new planet types to fight in over each of dusts free twice a year expansions.

The Hatchery Needs You!
The Hatchery is the premier TL corporation in Eve and runs the Team Liquid Alliance. We would like to incorporate a dust division into our alliance line up. The benefit for Dust players is that they will already have an established portal to the Team Liquid community in the Eve universe. Eve player experience will be able to help Dust players understand the fittings systems (which is already used by eve players) as well as understand the current political map. Additionally, we (or at least I will) should be able to help finance the dust group into getting a strong head start on the battlefield.
FAQ
Why is this only for PS3? - CCP wanted to develop a new non pc market. Microsoft was unwilling to allow cross console game play, nor would it allow access with the Eve servers, thus they were dropped from the lineup.
How much will it cost? - Dust 514 is now a free to play game. Micro transactions will not give advantages over items you purchase with earned game money.
Do I get a space ship? - Dust corporations can purchase a war barge which is necessary to have for contracts involving Null Sec space (the player owned areas). It acts as a supply vessel and a sort of customizable lobby. Early Barge Video
When does this come out? - Late 2012
Will there be beta? - Yes currently currently in NDA closed beta with weekly beta events, you can sign up at dust514.com or at the PSN homespot for Dust 514. Additionally if you pay 20$ for the Dust Mercenary pack, which includes some collector type items and 20$ of ingame currency you can get into the beta immediately.
Beta servers are typically up Thurs-Monday
