Hey all. I'm Peterblue, I played BW a bit when I was younger before I got disinterested. Currently I play SCII and I'm high Diamond as Terran and Zerg(so that's decent but nothing special). However, recently I've been feeling that SCII isn't very well balanced and isn't as interesting as SCBW, so I've been looking to get back into BW.
My question is: where can I go to find games at about the D/D- level? I've looked on ICCUP for games. There aren't many, and when I join I always get kicked right away. Is there a place I can practice besides the Abyss? Or am I missing some other server where I can play games? Or are there just not many people playing BW anymore?
Anyways, thanks for your time, and any info you can give me.
EDIT: To give info: Make sure to open your ports.
Also, Install ICCUP. Join the Teamliquid channel, and find games.

There are plenty of D/D- games in ICCUP. Look at your AH or try to cofigure your rig to host. Hosting will make your life 10000x easier than trying to join.
You get kicked most probably because your ah is not working type /ah when you get on to check out if its working. I play on D level too and have no problem joining games. Also try to find a practice partner. Try joining clans like ICCUP Training or sGs or some other clans you can also play on Gameranger.

Yeah like the guy before me said, there are still many many D+/D/D- games on iccup, just make sure you download the antihack launcher from the iccup website and people won't kick you anymore!!!

Hmm, I thought I had anti-hack on, but I'll go check to make sure. I know that that was the reason I stopped playing a while ago, because I kept getting kicked for that, but I can't remember if I got it or not. Anyways, thanks guys!

If you want, USEast has a surprisingly active player base. I recently started to play on USEast out of boredom and was surprised both at the quantity and quality of the players (like E/D-/D/D+) If you want, I'd also be down to play some games with you and if you want, introduce you to some USEast players. Just send me a pm here!

Make sure you launch your starcraft with it.
Also, to check, simply type /ah

also if you are on iccup you should hang out in the channel "op teamliquid"

lol the people on iccup that are D aren't usually actually "d" anymore they just smurfs. so dont be discouraged either. Also if you want to play REALLY bad people i recommend garena/gameranger

Smurfs are a big issue with iccup, especially at lower levels. I would recommend playing practice matches against people from the 'op teamliquid' or 'iccup training program' channels. Just enter the channel and ask if anyone wants to play a practice match (game type: melee/free for all).
With this method you should be able to play games repeatedly against honest players. I recommend using the same map and standard BO (e.g. zvt=3 hat muta) over and over, as this will allow you to see problems in your play and put you on the path to improving ("I keep getting wiped out by 2rax marine pushes before my mutas ==> How can I defend against this? How can I scout an attack?")
For generally learning about the game check out day9's podcasts and BW dailies. They're a pretty good resource for learning. You should also make sure to watch promatches of a strategy/mu/map you are struggling with and think carefully about "why did this work? why didn't this work? would it work if the opponent did X? would it work if opponent did Y? etc" (you can also do a similar thing with bw livestreams, but make sure you don't pick up other players' bad habits).
Anyway, that's just my schedule for improving, good luck with your dive into brood war! ^_^
(for an alternative, you could check out ver's guide)

What do you mean? I have alot of friends is D and I see alot of people who are genuine D. ICCUP level is just really high. Though I recommend playing on gameranger only when you meet good people.(I have a few) Because gameranger/garena plays on D-/E level and a few are only really "D" and some of people there are hacker
I suggest playing on USeast or USwest then move unto ICCUP if you really want to learn unless you met someone on gameranger or garena I don't really think its a good place to practice.
Also make sure you have wDetector or some hack detector on Bnet servers and use BWHF in Gameranger and Garena honestly some people there hacks

hey, im not the clan leader, but you should try and join Battle Scarred Gamers [BSG]. We enjoy having any type of level. Just ask Noise[BSG] who's our current leader to join. We'd be happy to have someone like you.

Hi there. I feel the exact same way, I really want to get into some fun Brood War again as I miss the game so so very much. For that I have two questions: these different channels you're talking about (sGs and iccup) are the on EU servers aswell (its been so long since I've seen which realms there is but I believe there was a EU one). Also, which is a bigger issue: will Starcraft 1 work on a macbook (one of the white older ones)?
Hope someone can help

Hope someone can help Hi, sGs is a clan and we have our channel on iCCup. iCCup is something like Battle.net, you can get started here: http://www.iccup.com/starcraft/sc_start.html If you log into iCCup you can get into our channel/other teams channels/ladders/training programs, there aren't any additional realms like iCCup EU, US, Asia etc. AFAIK. I'm european and I never had troubles getting a game with okay latency. There are some europeans in our team as well.
I don't know about mac but I believe I've seen a thread somewhere around here, so I suggest you try searching for that one.
