I've been trying to find ways to harass a greedy Protoss. Zergling run-bys are too difficult versus good sim city and ff. Getting enough mutas to cause damage is expensive. Nydus sneak is impossible. Alas, we come to the most radical option of them all: brood lord harass.
Basically, you will want:
- Fast lair - Zerglings, infestors, and spines for defense - Start spire and hive at the same time - Deny scouting with corruptors and spore crawlers - Get ~4 brood lords out at around 13:00
What you want to do is send one corruptor to each of the various dead spaces in your opponent's base, then morph them into brood lords. Those are where stalkers can't reach your brood lords. For example, here they are in Xel Naga Caverns:

XNC isn't even an ideal map for this strategy. Better maps like Shakuras Plateau and Slag Pits have dead space all around the main bases. Most maps will have dead space in range of mineral lines or assimilators. Obviously this strategy won't work in maps with little to no dead space, like Shattered Temple and Tal Darim Altar.
Having 3-4 brood lords all around your opponent's base that can't be attacked will cause major headaches, especially when you start taking out assimilators and probes. If your opponent starts making void rays, reinforce with corruptors and more brood lords.
This is how I believe brood lords should be used. It might be more of a lol strategy, but I think the idea can be applied to any situation when Zerg reaches tier 3. They are designed to be easily picked off by blink stalkers unless you have a significant terrain advantage. By using that advantage, they basically become the Zerg's equivalent of colossi behind force fields.
Here is a replay where I force my opponent into one base, since one brood lord basically took over his main mineral line.

Let me know what you guys think. I'd like to see more opinions about how it can work rather than how it can't.

You're saying this is a way to harass a greedy protoss, yet your strategy is to let him be free for 13 (unrealistic for 13 mins if he's scouting you at all) or more minutes. I'd argue that the way to harass a greedy protoss is to gear up an attack to hit as his third is finishing, or be even more greedy yourself.
Lategame, it's a cute harass but it wont be doing enough to stop much production, and if he chooses to push, you are down 16 supply of army. Not something I'd even consider.

Considering the void ray is already a popular and useful unit in this matchup I find this strategy might not work very well....

I think if he scouts at all he will really punish this build. Any early pressure seems like it may give you trouble as well. Broodlords and an amazing unit, but I'm not sure how great of an idea it is to rush it like this without being very vulnerable.

Don't know why, this made me laugh even more then the rest of your post
+ Show Spoiler + In the unlikely event that this is a serious post, I'd like to know how you deal with any attack that comes before 13 minutes.

I incorporate a fast overseer into this build. Thus, I can scout for a 6 gate, in which I'll stop teching to brood lords. Ling infestor and spine crawler is very effective in holding pushes < 13 minutes.

After watching the replay I feel like the protoss player didn't react properly to this build even after scouting it.
At 12 minutes the protoss has a stargate about to finish warping in, while your greater spire is only about 60% finished. Also you didn't deny any scouting as his observer scouted your greater spire at this point as well.
Even though the protoss player scouts a rush to broodlords he doesn't make a single air unit UNTIL THE 16 MINUTE MARK!
I think a broodlord rush has some potential but I think it needs to be performed against a more competent opponent because almost every protoss player I play has at least a stargate down before broodlord tech finishes. Considering you're going off of 2 bases when this happens you'd have to be devoting the rest of your gas to corruptors to protect your broodlords.

I like the idea of abusing the blank spots because it means protoss has to pull resources to deal with it, but the idea is way too cutesy to stay alive or kill a good protoss. I'd consider it akin banshees with no cloak against zerg. If he has any air units, no dice.

Unless you can come up with a BO that would get BL out faster this wont work at higher levels. The protoss you faced didnt have his colossus in the battle when he attacked your natural. Had the colossus been there with more on the way you would have died to his push. This build is very all in and relies on your opponent not putting on any early pressure or scouting. Also another thing to note is that if left alone zerg can have a maxed army around 12 min or sooner. Would you rather have 3 BL on 2 base or a maxed roach hydra corrupter army with +2 ranged attack 75 workers and 3-4 bases with BL tech on the way? I just dont think its possible to get BL fast enough to out weigh the danger you put yourseff in by rushing to them. So my opinion on how to make it better is figure out how to get BL a lot faster! If you cant than this strategy isnt viable.

If your thread is about a new strategy and you do not have a damn good analysis (with replays) (i.e. I think your thread is too theorycrafty), you can play against me in a BO3 with your strategy. If you lose, you will be BANNED. I will unban you and unlock this thread if you can show me this is a legit strategy. Saracen 276 NA server.
