There has been another recent influx of players recently, but I realize there has not been a normal game in a while. Normal, as in defined by no gimmicks, 25-35 people, behavioral analysis type games.
Theme games are all fun and dandy, and I admit a lot of them are really interesting. But (and is somebody going to disagree with me?) I know there are a lot of you that want to improve. And you are improving by playing, yes. But you can improve more, and you can learn more.
Normal games, i.e. the Boot Camp games. Call it a spur-of-the-moment idea, but I've always liked big, sweeping changes.
Referencing MafiaScum's rookie training system, I propose a similar thing.
This would be probably a 20-30 (closer to 30 okay Ver) person game. Normal. There are a variety of setups that can be considered such so games don't become stale. For those who want to improve. There would be a few of the more experienced players, but generally we are targeting newer to not-as-old players who want to learn how to play better.
Now, you're thinking--I've played these games, but sometimes it seems like I'm still missing out on a lot? How can I get better from these more than theme games.
Simple. There are a lot of older hosts that don't really do [as] much as they used to now. I haven't hosted a game in a while, and BC is trolling when not smurfing, and where has Incognito been? Also, Quatol. And then Ver, who has never lost a game.
For those of you who haven't seen it, go look at TL Mafia XXX, and then Ver's analysis of it. That is a very good way to improve after a game, by reading an outsider viewer's opinion on it. For these boot camp games, a similar system would be implemented. After the game, a separate thread will be created for post-game analysis, with overall game thoughts and comments on players being discussed there.
Now, Ver wrote up on a lot of stuff and a lot of people for the XXX writeup, and that takes a lot of time. Luckily, with more "hosts" (I say hosts as people who set up, balance, and watch the games) they can each take a few people to write about and that will split up the time. You're happy. You get to play games, and you get positive and/or useful feedback on the end. You improve.
There's more.
Anybody who wants to work on their analysis and such can watch the game and chime in afterward. If they contact us hosts, we can let them in on some information if they want to use that. This way, there are many points of views, many opinions to go by. Everybody improves.
Everybody's happy.
More details on this are going to be added in the weekend.

Do you think Qatol or flamewheel don't /facepalm epically virtually every game? They see every flaw that we make but they don't throw a temper tantrum about it. If they have the discipline to not rage in every post-mafia game session, what makes you think you have the right to do so? THE IRONY!!!!
On a more serious note, this is a great idea and I hope people actually take part in this.

PMs? It will vary. PMs have merits and cons and it will be dependent on setup.

Great timing hahaha
Oh look flamewheel's email

I would love to enrol! =)
All the different Mafia simultaneous games are really hard to keep up with though. What are you anticipating for the schedule? When do you think the first Boot Camp will run?

Too many games going right now, and honestly most of the games being made are not balanced. Big fan of balanced games.
It will run when we can get it cleared up, though as a normal game it can run concurrently to theme games.
We just have too many theme games going on right now.

What about BC and RoL's game? At a glance it seems pretty normal.

This is good. I've been wanting to do this but have been too lazy/inexperienced to feel like doing it.

i seem to be a perfect example of a new tl mafia player that needs to learn from more experienced players. count me in.
also why dont you instead of fighting the recent surge of mafia games being hosted embrace it.. if there are so many people hosting games and they are getting filled up then i dont think it should be a problem. also instead of decreasing the number of games being played at one time i think the most logical thing to do would be to increase the amount of players. find some new ones. advertise the games outside of the mafia forum a little try to get new players involved to help compensate for the surge of people wanting to host. that would be the best way to resolve any issues without hurting the ambitions of the current community.

We've generally recruited in waves to the outside forum, and currently that's the stage that we're in. It's not so much that a lot of people want to host games but the problem is more so that a lot of people want to host games... at once. If they want to host games, they can advertise it in blogs like some people have done or post it straight in the TL Mafia signup forum. If there are enough players to do the games wanted that's perfectly fine with me, but everybody going at once leads to traffic jams!
