Ahh I was actually wanting to do the next boot camp game. Ver and Incognito and I have come up with some sorts of "guidelines" for games to go--role counts and whatnot in variation--for Boot Camp games, to standardize them. We'll see how timing works out though.

That's fine. Are all normal games from now on going to be boot camp games? I think there are too many "experienced" players in the salem game currently but I wonder if having 2 standard size games at a time is too much. 1 boot camp game of 30 and 1 other game of 30.

All normal games have the potential to become boot camp games. I think the number of "experienced" players in Salem Mafia is fine. What is your particular concern in reducing the number of "experienced" players?

2 games is too much. We did this with TL Mafia XVI. The thing is, you get one game with all the early signups which means that game is very active, while the second game is filled with a bunch of stragglers who don't care too much about the game and that game goes at a very slow pace. 2 games stretches our resources thin and dilutes the number of active contributing players, which isn't good for anyone.

It's a little more random than that. The early signups also has the people who see the thread, think playing would be fun, sign up, and then forget about the game or lose interest in the idea as the game starts. They're also more likely to have unexpected real life problems interfere.

I don't see a real problem with 2 games, but I have a major problem with people playing in multiple games at the same time. Recently, Coagulation was signed up for FIVE games at the same time: Sengoku, Assassin in the Palace, Kingmaker, Insane, and Don't Lose Yo' Village! (I'm aware that not all of these games were going on at the same time, that doesn't really affect my point). With the activity levels we expect out of TL games, there is simply no way anyone can play well in that many games at the same time. And when we have whole games where most of the player base is playing in multiple games, the activity levels and overall quality of both games suffers. I don't have a problem with 2 games, but the hosts need to coordinate to prevent this problem.

Its true that inactivity happens in all games, but I think if you have two similar games, the regular strong active players are going to be front-loaded on the player list. Leaving the second game with more inexperience. I don't think our player base is large enough to have two quality games.

But yes playing in multiple games at once is a problem. Part of that problem is that there are too many games hosted at once...

Well TL has a lot of new members since SC2.

Why not host newbie games in general and expand the playerbase? If the mods were ok with it?

No, you were just the most extreme example. You were the only one who was in all 5 games, though there were several more who were in 4.

We should have a general discussion forum in the mafia forum, so we can all bond and spam together in our own little TL microcosm.

Can I suggest that the next bootcamp mafia game perhaps not be a PM game?

It probably won't be. I don't think the game I next game I run I will consider a boot camp game because its still going to involve PMing.

What? This is a lie. But then again, I don't think I can argue with 3 flamewheels...

That's one less flamewheel to argue with... It might level the playing field. hehe
