2 games is too much. We did this with TL Mafia XVI. The thing is, you get one game with all the early signups which means that game is very active, while the second game is filled with a bunch of stragglers who don't care too much about the game and that game goes at a very slow pace. 2 games stretches our resources thin and dilutes the number of active contributing players, which isn't good for anyone.

It's a little more random than that. The early signups also has the people who see the thread, think playing would be fun, sign up, and then forget about the game or lose interest in the idea as the game starts. They're also more likely to have unexpected real life problems interfere. I don't see a real problem with 2 games, but I have a major problem with people playing in multiple games at the same time. Recently, Coagulation was signed up for FIVE games at the same time: Sengoku, Assassin in the Palace, Kingmaker, Insane, and Don't Lose Yo' Village! (I'm aware that not all of these games were going on at the same time, that doesn't really affect my point). With the activity levels we expect out of TL games, there is simply no way anyone can play well in that many games at the same time. And when we have whole games where most of the player base is playing in multiple games, the activity levels and overall quality of both games suffers. I don't have a problem with 2 games, but the hosts need to coordinate to prevent this problem.

Its true that inactivity happens in all games, but I think if you have two similar games, the regular strong active players are going to be front-loaded on the player list. Leaving the second game with more inexperience. I don't think our player base is large enough to have two quality games. But yes playing in multiple games at once is a problem. Part of that problem is that there are too many games hosted at once...

Why not host newbie games in general and expand the playerbase? If the mods were ok with it?

No, you were just the most extreme example. You were the only one who was in all 5 games, though there were several more who were in 4.
