Few questions from a new player. Just got the game yesterday im a decently skilled dota 2 player trying starcraft 2 with background in command and conquer.
Im going to be a protoss player and at the moment i bind stalkers to group 1 sentries (the shield minion hope thats there name) to group 2 and then the entire army to group 3 so when a fight occurs i can hit 2 spam my shields and then back to 1 if i want to blink to a better position. Is this a decent way of microing or is this really bad? what are the better ways?
In dota 2 there is a yearly massive international tournament where the top 16 teams are this decides who is the best, does sc2 have something like this or is it so dominated by korea that just their leagues they have over there equal the international setting? If not what major tournaments does everyone get excited for?
When commentators say a player is teching up does that mean just expanding?
As protoss i normally go for an early push build with stalkers and sentries and zealots how important is upgrading at the forge and whats the most important?
Of the majority of the top players in the rankings in korea are zerg players, i know everyone says that all races are even but it seems zerg is the most popular at the absolute highest level of play is this because zerg is easier to win once u have godlike micro compared to the other races?
Thanks alot for your help

You can micro like that, it is a descent way. The most important part in control groups is to have your Templars in another control group to handle the storms and avoid the EMP/snipes better.

There are A LOT of tournaments in SC2. There is no absolutly best player, the bests 10-15 are winning tournaments there and there, and there is a lot of competitive players. The level is so high, that it's not only about players, but also about what the have eaten in the morning, and how much the have slept the night before... Exactly like in sport. After that, it is a really deep game, and it's very very intense work to catch a good level of play. For the bests tournaments, watch GSL, GSTL, MLG, IPL and maybe WCG. Others like RSL, TSL, HSC are pretty good too.
When commentators say a player is teching up does that mean just expanding?
No, teching up is adding new tech structures and adding upgrades to your future army. There are 4 ways to use money in sc2 : to have more money by expanding, to improve your future army by upgrading/teching, to use it on army to attack/defend, to use it on static defense to protect yourself.
As protoss i normally go for an early push build with stalkers and sentries and zealots how important is upgrading at the forge and whats the most important?
You have to chose a build order for each race you will face off. Look at the 4 gates, the forge fast expo, the one gate expo ... You really need to setup some plans for your future games (killing him before 7min, expand and 2base push timing with +1 attack and +1 armor at around 10min30s, aiming for the late game...). Then you need to know that 2 stalkers with +1 attack will lose to 3 stalker without upgrades, but 9 stalkers with +1 attack will kill 10 stalker without upgrade. You need to consider upgrades relatively fast depending on your plan.

No. One month ago, there was like only protosses left on a lot of tournaments, and two month before, a terran won GSL. Terran is a little behind i think, but before hitting grand master level, just don't care about that and work on your macro/micro/crisis management/etc..
This game is the best ! The best way to improve is looking for build orders, learning them, watching replays, vods and stream, and then play ladder games trying to do what you just saw/learn.
Enjoy !!

In TvT, if i open 1 rax proxy marauder, and after my SCV makes the barracks i scout him making a tech lab on his rax (reaper opening) what should i do? i don't have enough gas for factory in time
i guess my options are make a barracks at home, or send my first marauder home?
|
Zealo, if he's opening reaper, you can make marauder or even reaper and hit him.
At your base, if he decides to go (it will take a long time for him to reach your base) you can go for hidden factory or make 1 extra racks, chase his reaper with 6 scv until you get your first unit.
You can take a few losses, because he's going to lose a lot to your marauders/reapers before he even hit you.. You can also start a bunker inside his base. gg

Is heavendom the observer also/was Heaven[30D.O.M] the terran BW player?

How can i win, using only ring ring push?

Hello.
Can you tell me how I can ask a player if they are ready if I need to pause the game>? It won't let me press enter!

Are IPL5 replays out? I know the VoDs are released, and IPL4 released the two of them together

I was wondering whether attacking morphing larva or infested terran eggs has any effect on damaging the unit itself. If a focus fire on infested terran and don't kill the eggs, do they emerge with full health?
|
No effect. Same with baneling cocoons, overseer cocoons, broodlord cocoons, etc. The new unit spawns with full health. This is why in ZvZ zerg players will save overlords from 1 queen by morphing to overseer, so it can fly away i believe.

Hit return to game under menu first.

What is the current standard opener/build in TvZ and TvT that doesn't rely on banshees ?

Infested Terran eggs are the exception to this. If you damage them, they will pop out damaged (the health percentage of the egg becomes the health percentage of the IT). All the morph-cocoons do heal the unit to full when it spawns.

In the last time i often think about hotkey and mouse setups. To get a little impression i search on TL and i found this thread:
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=371540
And in this Thread i found this: + Show Spoiler +On September 26 2012 21:08 Aando wrote: Huh. I expected his hotkeys to be more efficient. One would think that the kespa teams would put some thought into hotkey set-ups since they would gain quite alot from it. Both in speed/accuracy and players less prone to injury.
Anybody know if pros like Flash or others using special key setups to improve the gameplay as much as it possible?
And which DPI/ingame mouse sensitive uses the players? I read here on TL that Flash uses 1800DPI and Rain 800, but on which ingame sensitive? I found a old thread that 51-54% is the best, an other thread say 61-64% is fine too, so im a bit confused an interestet in what pros uses. Hi guys and girls,
I'm a bronze noob and started with Terran. I have used the bronze2masters series, mr.llama'sc guides etc. It worked pretty well, ive won 70%-80% of my games since i started using the guides and info on TLQ. Now terran is a bit boring with the same build order everytime, so i'm switching to protos and try to win 70% with them.
My question is about playing against Zerg as a Protos (and even terran). I'm seeing alot of spine crawlers lately, also in pro-matches (youtube). In the start of the game, Zerg player tries to delay attacks with them. In midgame there used for mapdominance, because they can move them to the chokepoints. There basically a big pain in the butt and a cheap gamechanger as i see it. Still, i see pro's building a big offensive groundarmy midgame (stalkers, sentry's immortals and collusus). Why don't the pro-protos/terran build mass air with a small ground defensive force. This seems more logical to me, because the spinecrawler chokepoints get 0% effectiveness and air is good against broodlords etc. next to the fact your army is more mobile?

Air Protoss aren't used in midgame because it takes a LOT of time to max on it. In the Lategame you rarely see them to counter broodlords but there you often have the problem, that the remax on corupers(or how it's spelled in english <.<) will kill the airforce very easy.

But i have a question, too
How can i deal with mass baneling with archon/speedlot? when i forcefield them, the archons will free them instantly and they will destroy all my zealots

Stupid question... When are promotions given? For the whole day I've been playing Platinum, and Diamond, and even a Master. Won the majority of them. Most of them were favoured and I went from rank 50 in my division to 1st and pulling away a bit. Yet I'm still not getting promoted

I dont know where to take my question on this forum so im sorry if this request is misplaced
Im a Startale_July fan and I remember the game I fell in love with him but I cant remember the exact time he played it. It was a GSL game in either 2011 or MAYBE 2010 (thats pushing it) on XelNaga Caverns against a protoss where he borrowed roaches, and then popped em up when the toss army walked over them

Probably have to lose a little more for your MMR to asymptote and be given a promotion. You will eventually be promoted, inevitably.
