@Slashie
Concerning "subgroup browsers" Its not like I have that version sitting on my computer and refuse to let anyone see it. I'd have to make a different version for mouse buttons as subgroups, mouse buttons as CGs, mouse buttons as select all army and one rotate camera, mouse buttons as select all army and next subgroup only etc etc
I think saying you have to rebind the shit out of everything is pretty far off, you only need to swap 2 keys to not use mouse buttons at all, if that is your style.
Concerning using home keys as micro instead of macro. There are 2 macro CGs and 8 micro CGs. Not only will you be selecting and using your 2 macro CGs on average more than your micro CGs, but you'll need to go back and forth (if you're playing properly) between your micro and macro, this makes having the 2 macro CGs centrally located best, as you are never far away from your macro. The micro CGs are incredibly fast and close in comparison to grid and standard, and the combinations are free from finger repetition making them even faster. But in the end, each player has their own style and preferences, the stock version of TheCore is meant for the average user of TheCore and customizations can and should be made so that your preferences are taken into account.
@Spooge In the most recent version of TheCore for Protoss, Random, and Terran, all siege units have be synchronized. So Spines, Spores, Warp Prisms, Widow Mines, Siege Tanks, and Swarm hosts all function in the same basic manner and have the same keys for "siege" and "unsiege".

No, the combo used to allow to hold control through the entire roll. Now you have to release it twice because you can't rapidfire spread creep tumor while holding control. I'll admit, my creep spread has still yet to recover XD

Oh shit, I did not know that. If you think your creep spread will be slower with rapid fire, I strongly suggest moving it over to transfuse instead. Alternatively, we could be developing a better way to creep spread with rapidfire, any ideas?

Now the unit production keys, ability keys, upgrades, and tech building buttons seem out of place. What's the reasoning behind the Aug 22nd hotkey changes?
Edit: For example, zealot being built with ' and sentry with I. I realized in the hotkey trainer that the charge upgrade is now ' as well... I think I'm primarily feeling it with stalker, dark templar, high templar? I haven't even started laddering since I started practicing the last hotkey setup and now its like I took a couple of steps back.
Just seemed to make sense to me for high templar to be H since that was the key for templar archives and dark templar to be M since that was dark shrine, things like that.
The upgrade keys should still be consistent (whenever possible): Speed upgrades are on the homerow pinky [GJ] Passive upgrades should be on the key to produce the unit (we consider charge to be passive) Active upgrades should be on the key to activate that ability (like storm, neural, etc)
In regards with buildings being consistent with the unit they unlock, this doesn't work out so cleanly most of the time. However TLO has brought up the idea of using alternates for build basic and advanced which may shuffle buildings around a bit. If we can we'll try and make the buildings more consistent with the units they unlock, but no promises on that one

Ok, the I misspoke a little. You can rapidfire while holding control.
The problem with creep spread is self inflicted, because "Create Camera Location 7" shares a key with rapidfire ( "I" and "Control + I" on ZRM). For me, the solution is to simply move the create camera key to any key with isn't rapidfire.
I played around a little and I like:
Jump to Location 7 is Ctrl + J Jump to Location 8 is Ctrl + Shift + J Create Location 7 is Ctrl + O Create Location 8 is Ctrl + Shift + O Create Control Group 1 is Ctrl + Shift + H
This makes spreading creep along one path very natural: Just hold control and roll J, I, O. Done.
Edit: Wow. I personally love the ease of Control + J, I, O. Jeez it's great, zergs should try it out. Now, creep path 2 is clunky as crap... but!
But, I rebound Ctrl + Shift + J, I, O to camera 8. Now the creep spread is simply:
Hold Ctrl. Roll J, I, O Hold Ctrl +Shift. Roll J, I, O
*I rebound the create hatchery group to "Ctrl + Shift + H"
Obviously it has some disadvantages. If you roll too far it will bind your creep tumors with your queens, or worse, OVER your queens. But, that's just muscle memory from the old "Base H" inject method.

@Verde I'm loving it. I'll include it in the next patch with the TLO updates unless anyone has any qualms with it.
|
@Verde good point on Creep spread. How about moving the Jump to location 7 and 8 to = . and = / which are just below index finger on ZRM.
@JaKaTaK For me hotkey = 7 in morphing Ultralist isn't very well reachable with a pinky. I moved it to = .

Ok, so here is my proposed changed to the Zerg Creep spread using ZRM
Changed Hotkeys:
Jump to Location 7 is Ctrl + J Jump to Location 8 is Ctrl + Shift + J Create Location 7 is Ctrl + O Create Location 8 is Ctrl + Shift + O Create Control Group 1 is Ctrl + Shift + H
The Creep Spread Process:
**Hold Ctrl
Step 1 Recall camera: Press J (FreeCamera1) Step 2 Select tumor: Click on creep tumor Step 3 Activate rapidfire: Hold I Step 4 Save Camera: Press O
*Hold Ctrl + Shift
Step 5 Recall camera: Press J (FreeCamera2) Step 6 Select tumor: Click on creep tumor Step 7 Activate rapidfire: Hold I Step 8 Save Camera: Press O
**Release Ctrl + Shift

using the = symbol when talking about hotkeys is confusing because = is actually a hotkey in the right handed versions. I'm having trouble figuring out what is going on as a result.

Haha, sorry I edited my prior post for clarity.

The production hotkey for the queens being the same as the lings can be problematic. Sometimes I don't realize I have no more larvae and end with a lot of useless queens.
|
@Scientia This is something that will pass once you've used the layout for a long time. If you focus on being more aware of your larva instead of blindly spamming when you want a unit, you will not have this problem anymore.
NEED GRAPHIC HELP FOR 1.0 RELEASE
I'd really like to have a solid cheat sheet for all the versions with a visual layout of a keyboard that shows where the CGs, Abilities, and Cameras are, with some text on the side containing the suggested CGs and how to add/select/create CGs and Cameras. We need to find someone that can do this. It doesn't have to be fancy, it just has to be accurate.
EDIT: TheCore Archive has been updated for PTR 0.8.2. Took a bit longer than expected, but if you want to get a jump on the next patch, its all there. Working on Zerg 0.8.2 next, then I'll make the files.
|
Howdy again. I can try my hand at making the "cheat sheets" if you want. Here's a quick mockup, let me know what I need to change and once you like the design, I'll pound em out.
Of course, you did use the words "all the versions." I'm assuming this is just limited to the Zerg, Protoss, Terran, and Random layouts in Small, Medium, and Large sizes, in both Right and Left Hands. 24 in total.

Verde! Our Savior!
After months of searching we have found you!
Preferably I'd like it in a 16 by 9 format so that it is easily put up on a second monitor. If you could include the full list of how to add/select create CGs instead of just the one small note about hatcheries It would be better IMO.
But seriously, this is exactly what we need. Thank you so fucking much, can't stress this enough.
Also, can you do it in teal?
Hex code #00bfbf
maybe teal and white or teal and light grey. Use your artsy powers to feel out combinations send me an email so I can give you TheCore logo to stick in there thejakatak@gmail.com
EDIT: The Documents for TheCore 0.8.2 are finished. I'll start on the files shortly (this should be the files for 1.0 as we are 2 videos, Verde's visuals, and some formatting work away from release) *crosses fingers*
EDIT2: If you don't know what I mean by formatting work, prepare yourself, the reference docs are about to get fucked up!

Here's a fixed version:

Two questions: Regarding the cameras, do you want a full table, like in the reference document? Should I include suggested use of free and layered cameras as well? Or do you just want a minor explanation of how to store and recall the cameras?
About the creep spread. I know, I'm the one who suggested it. ;-D I wiffed a copy/paste earlier. Does it look right on the new version? I'm not attempting to simply give the hotkeys for creep spread, I'm attempting to show the process.

Wow, this sounds amazing. Why didn't we think about this earlier? That is a awesome.
The only thing I would change is the order. I would go ctrl+shift first, then ctrl. Because switching from ctrl+shift to ctrl feels much smoother than the other way round.

It looks great with those fixes. The one thing that is still missing is that this sheet doesn't help me if I want to know how to set the centered cameras. I think a full table would be best.
