I have often read mods and vets lament and romanticize how "everybody knew everyone in TL back then." This was during the early days of TL and all foreign BW fans congregated in TL. With the rise of SC2, however, also flooded the site with thousands and thousands of members coming from all around the world, of all age, sex, race, and all the different interests and backgrounds in life.
This is the idea. I know that it is really impossible and impractical to fully know people online, but this thread could be a place where we get to know other members in TL more.
Here is how we do it. Ask any member (I'm thinking staff, but there is already a thread for that so maybe this is primarily for members. Staff and mods are still welcome to join) of TL about anything. We need a few rules about this:
1. The questions should be asked directly to the intended member (we can use the tag @, i.e. @TheAmazombie) 2. Only the member asked may answer the question(s) addressed to him/her 3. Members answering the question should quote the aforementioned question(s) 4. The member being asked has the right to refuse to answer question(s) to him/her. 5. Ask questions that are meant to promote goodwill and a friendly community atmosphere 6. Ask questions that are not libelous, scandalous, inflammatory, idiotic, or otherwise deregatory to the members of TL and TL in general 7. If you feel your questions should definitely, urgently be aswered, PM the person you're asking as well and ask them to answer your question in this thread 8. Have fun and gain new friends
Ok?
I'll go first
@TheAmazombie 1. How old are you? 2. What's the best thing you learned about doing the Obituary for CharlieMurphy?

Well shit, this was unexpected.
1. I am 31, which makes me part of the old man's club. I don't try to hide that at all, but I never really think about it honestly...never been one to pay much attention to age. 2. Well...what I learned was more just something that I hadn't thought about before, which I mentioned in the posts on that thread and that was that when someone has that many posts, even some of the hardest trolls, most of them are just going to be boring and innocuous. I mean, I know if you look in my posting there is not going to much that is earth-shattering. So I guess it just kind of put a humanization to a TL figure in the sense that in real life we are mostly all just kind of doing are thing, talking to our friends, being silly, whatever.

I hope those answers make some sense to y'all.
Thanks. 31! Tell me about being beyond 30? Do you physically/emotionally feel "old"? No disrespect meant, I also always think of my 30th birthday, and 40th, etc. and the things I should have done by then.

LoL...not really. Like I said, I never really thought about age much. I can form a musical community back home where we learned to respect people on merit and talents, not age. My parents worked and went to school and whatnot all while I was growing up and still some today, so I was taught that you are never too old to get things done that you want to do. While life is short, you seem to have plenty of time. I mean, I didn't ever own my first car until I was 27, my son at 28, my house at 29. Some people get these things done faster than others.
The only time that I feel old is when other people look at me that way...but I just tell myself that it is not that I am old, it is just that they are young kids still. Even if so though, I look forward to being old. My literary heroes are Kurt Vonnegut and Mark Twain, and when I get old, I want to have the bushy mustache and white-man fro like them. I am actually excited at the prospect of being that wise old member of my community. I know it must sound silly, but it is true.
On that note...I just got off work and it is 5 in the morning...time for sleep. Talk to everyone later.
I wonder if I'm noteworthy enough on TL to merit questions for me. :3 But then again, since I'm asking this, it might just prompt people to ask me questions solely because of my insecurity post here. Of course, people might not post a question after all now, because of reverse psychology or something...
@Archas, how did you get into touhou? Surely you're not ZUN? (profile picture)
@Man with a plan, how are people supposed to know if they've been asked a question? This thread is short now, but if it gets long, people might not read through the whole thing and not reply. Should they be PMed?

I thought of this one too. I think Teoman is right in a way. New thread will attract people, specially vets who tend to be everywhere lol. But you are right. Actually the issue is not just about whether this thread gets to so much pages, but what if the person being questioned do not even care opening this thread at all. Maybe PM too? Ok. definitely PM too. Editing op.

What happened to HeavyTemplar ?
Once upon a time in a Tal'darim not much different than our own (this one had gold minerals in the middle, imagine!) myself and Heavy, as i affectionately called him, were marching over the middle of the map on the way to crush a heavily fortified terran position. There were bunkers on the high ground filled with angry marauders spewing their RPG's laden with concussive rounds. There were medivacs and banshees overhead raining down both life and death and as the zealots charged forth to crash like the tide upon the cliff that was the mass repaired bunkers the collosus marching overhead singed the terran position.
Alas the wall was as steel and we were forced back, the SCVs chanting "In rear with the gear!" mockingly, the marauders abandoning their bunkers injected themselves with adrenaline inducing stim-packs as we fled and their shells rained down. They tore stalker after stalker apart only a few blinking into the distance to avoid the wrath of the explosives.
To my unending anguish heavy was a high templar and even more slow than the usual of their kind, his feet brushing the ground as he attempted to levitate, fell behind as we fled. I tried to help him back to our base cutting down as many of the marauders as I could with my scythe-like blades. As we reached the half way point it was becoming desperate and as a scan fell upon us the marauders took aim upon me.
It was as if time slowed as his mind connected to mine. "Become an Archon with me and we shall fight til our last taking as many as possible with us!" I screamed in my mind. A grim determination cam over heavy's face then, I thought he was going to join and I was ready.
He raised his hands slowly and deliberately, staring at the marauders that were taking aim and then all i felt was heat and confusion wracking my brain. So this is what its like to become and Archon I thought. But as I looked around I realized that it was a storm, the marauders were yelling in pain even as they fell around me, I was safe. I looked to Heavy in gratitude but what I saw I will never forget.
A soft PEW filled the air, my mind, and heavy fell to an unseen gunman upon the center of tal'darim in. I ran, ran from the chaos and the death of my friend, escaping as the scan dissipated. Dodging the blasts of EMPs. Escaping to the safety of the nexus.
======================
We won the battle for tal'darim later that day re-rallying an even larger army than before, the terran crippled after the loss of their weakened marauders to heavy's final storm. In honor of Heavy's contribution a monument was raised in the center of Tal'darim, an altar built with the surrounding golden minerals powered by the outlying vespene deposits.
One day I will find the ghost. If not in this life then as a stalker, I will hunt him down and make my vengeance.
Until that day I bask in the twilight, a dark templar in all but name.
I get asked that a lot. LightTemplar was intended to be opposite to dark templar cause i thought DTs were awesome when i first played (I still think they're awesome :D)

It's a good thing I'm a loser and search my own name 5-6 times a day, otherwise I wouldnt've seen this!
Short answer is I just like making other people's lives better in whatever ways I can. I've been part of the SC community since 1998 and while I've done some things here and there like hosting replays, making maps, being an admin for ICCUP and a few tournaments... none of that really felt like I was contributing much.
I started meeting a lot of game developers when I ran my Minecraft server so one thing led to another and eventually I was able to start giving out games. It's still not much, and there are a lot of things I'd like to do but simply can't do alone or with the limited time and financing I have available these days... but it's something, I guess.
Of course I've also had some tragic failures such as the TL Staff Tournament I tried to get going so not everything turns out the way it's supposed to... but overall I'm happy with what I've been able to do thus far and it seems that a decent amount of people on TL are as well. Therefore I'll continue doing it and (hopefully) do it better each time as long as the community here remains.

Screwing up as a kid / adolescent:
Our school had a "security" person, he'd basically patrol the parking lot and stuff during class hours to make sure people weren't getting high or leaving or w/e.
He was this big huge scary looking Hawaiian dude (I've never seen a scary Hawaiian before) but his voice was like...VERY high pitched and feminine. Being a high school "security" guard he got poked fun at a lot. I'm ashamed I can't remember what it is (this is about 6 or 7 years ago, senior in high school...I can't even remember what I had for breakfast this morning, gg) but he had some phrase he said ALL THE TIME...like "Whatchoo doin outta class boy?" or something along those lines.
Anyhow to keep this from being a wall of text, for a senior prank me and some friends got a male blow-up sex doll of the same approximate skin tone, and made a flag with his catch phrase on it and flew it from the flag pole out front of the school at like 12am and then couldn't wait to go in to class in the morning. LOLs were had but one of the guys involved couldn't stop bragging and got caught...then he snitched on the rest of us.
I learned a valuable lesson - if you ever are looking to become a criminal, do it all yourself, cause your idiot friend will brag about that bank robbery or w/e and get you all fucked :p

OSL is free, PL should start soon, will know the details for sure within the next 72 hours.
Wow, he didn't even acknowledge the bond that you two share in his reply. Either he is really clueless, or he has embraced the mantle of your arch-nemesis and was fostering conflict by pretending to ignore your relationship.

I seek truth, justice, and peace on earth. But since that's being way too broad and cliche, I'll say that I seek a hot ass wife that everyone will drool over and a kick ass job with 4 beautiful kids.
I also seek to be a moderator. One day..... one day.... even if it takes 50 years, I will make my dream come true.
I have nothing against scbw gamers coming to sc2. I am very excited to see what Flash, Jaedong, and Bisu will bring to the sc2 scene. My only concern is that we may end with up another fOrGG situation. In which case, I'd just be super pissed 24/7.

if people expect flash to be the best player in sc2 in a months time, it will.
As flash stated he thinks it will take him 1 year to get to code S level, and 2-3years to be the best player

The good: food, people, the historical locations, all touristy things. The bad: the fact that "the bad" you are looking for is uncertain and usually a different experience each foreigner has in this country.

Y'know, I'd actually choose the scarf (though I haven't worn a scarf since you saw me at Providence). DotA 2 coming out in one month would completely fuck up the system by disallowing any market introduction phase to be implemented given the current situation.

@Blubbdavid ("U gun follow SC2?") For nostalgia and irony' sake yes, but not in any large degree. Not for SC2' sake, but because of the people with BW past, both pros and fans. + Show Spoiler [Long, rambling answer] +
Well I get distracted on streams enough, and it's OK to watch (sure don't beat any live BW tho). I managed to bring in all of my good friends from high-school so now SC2 is a common ground for us (Puns galore). In terms of playing the game competitively, nah, I've learnt my lesson that ladder isn't the best use of time. I still want to do some commentating, but I figure I can totally do that for iCCup TV VODs just as well. Following players, watching tournaments ..... no. I don't intend to pick it (e.g. GSL) up, I just don't have that personal connection of "wow I play this game too, but he does things that are so amazing I wish I could emulate" that I do for Boxer micro, Leta wraiths or Fantasy vultures. It just isn't ~there~ for me. However, I will continue to loyally support SK T1 and whatever ex-BW pro that I like, just to lol when they start breaking the game (insert Flash "destroy scene" meme). I also support Liquid` players just because, y'know, TL. I'll stay for the people let's say, for the privilege of interacting and maybe even meeting some of the great people who share a BW past, so that we can talk about stuff that really matters like Fantasy v Jangbi, and how lulzy it is seeing them at it in this ~different setting~.
@Kipsate (and others too ofc) What we gonna do about NaDa's Body now that BW-Prosceen is all but dead?
@Pokebunny Get 'cho ass in OP Teamliquid some time man, it'll be cool! What do you really wish people would do more, and do less of in SC2 (game and community), especially with BW pros coming.
@ 2Pacalypse- For the sake of unity, and actually playing with people we interact with on the forums, what do you think of a really laid back BGH tourney of some sorts? It feels like we like to mope about the current state of the scene, and gloat over nostalgia of how it used to be better. How about we CREATE memories by doing stuff!
@TheDeadHaji What do you make of A. vocaloid B. Omotesando/Harajuku (presuming you've also walked there, I quite enjoyed it) C. Starcraft anymore (BW, 2, BW merger with 2 scene).
@Blind-RawR (If this isn't too personal) what does your University trajectory look like (trust me, I'm being purely self-centered with this). That is, will you end up near Europe/UK, so that the rest of the world can get some of you too?
@mOnion I had a dream recently about someone and his sister singing KPop, and then that person was missing (lol and then beheaded but that's something else). I realize you fit the criteria rather well, where have you been and what u up to?
@kOre Tell me/us about your BBoying experiences, or point me in the direction of some resources online. Korea is big, how do you fit in it all?
I wish there were less dumb luck based allins. I feel like terran players have to use them, but I hate using them. In the community... I wish people were more positive. It seems like there's so much hate, as if just because one player or caster is better than another, it means the weaker one is terrible.

Such as, what did you contribute to the community in order to become a banling; what was the rising and turning point that helped you become a figure in our little society? There are a lot of people I don't recognize with banning privileges, but that's my bad :p
On May 25 2012 00:48 Jaaaaasper wrote: @Marttorn, how many hamsters do you have, and did you ever find all the ones that got lose in your house?
I have 147 hamsters, however (and this answers your second question) this does not account for the Mass Escape of December '11, where about 39~ hamsters escaped from the farm and infested the basement. They have formed a religious cult that relies heavily upon blood sacrifice. They plan on staging a revolt against my farm, and are currently looking for supporters.
edit: As for the 23 that got lost after I threw a bucket of hamsters up into the air, most sources believe that they, with some exception, have joined the basement cult.

Well, I was/am a perma zergling before and zerglings are #1.
Seriously though, I was first brought onto staff to do writing for PL team. In addition, the original set of banlings were mainly chosen from vet/staff who used the report function well. I realize that I'm probably not answering this as fully as you wished but I am too tired to think any further.
Also, I remember when you used to mass spam in #teamliquid for people to bo5/7 you in BW TvT.
We all like the sound of a marine injecting himself with dangerous neurotoxin. But it's just not at the same level as the sound of your shit getting kicked in by a 4p. 4 lyfe.

There was a kind of similar thread where you were supposed to say something nice about the person who posted above you, right? I thought that's what this was at first. Did that thread die? oo

Stealing the show... If anyone really thinks that I can cease and desist.... I only want to give them a balloon!!
Finally, @everyone: Hyperion, Norad ll, Norad lll, or Alexsander? Or another famous BC?
Hyperion obviously.
Yeah, it's funny I went from a clear Zerg in Broodwar (I actually feel uncomfortable playing another race) to a Protoss/offzerg. Still get uncomfortable as Terran, still inexcusably bad at all the above.
Hey. Not obvious, don't hate on the Alexsander. Far as I remember we never get to really see it in action but I still think it's one of the cooler BCs in Starcraft lore.

I drink a lot of green and oolong tea. It cleanses the system.

Why dinner? Why not other meals like breakfast or lunch, at least you have the rest of the day to digest

Yes lol. The outrageousness will never end.
I've never given that any thought. I'm no longer new but I've never seen anyone troll around the forums.

I really liked Mama. not like the best by any stretch but a nice reminder that not all horror films suck. nothing has scared me as much as The Ring and the original Jaws back when I was young.

Favorite: Night of the Living Dead count? Otherwise the ring was pretty freaky as a little kid. Mama was pretty decent, just watched that. Scarriest: 2010-2011 Shinhan Bank Proleague Finals

I have bad cardiovascular health in my family history, so I am thinking of following suit. I may incorporate salads and wine first to help with the transition however.
