Hi guys,
A lot of you are always asking if there are players in area X, so I made a little website to help with that. I give you the beta version of http://sc2geomap.com/
It's a website with three main goals in mind:
1.- To allows SC2 players to meet other local SC2 players. Players can add a player by simply dragging the map to their approximate location and adding a marker indicating if they are a Zerg, Terran, Protoss, or Random player. They then also add their BNET ids. Note that due to privacy concerns, I do not ask you to enter your address or force you to pinpoint a valid location. For all I care, you can say you live in the middle of a lake. Furthermore, you can monitor an area for new players. At the end of the day, if new players were added in the area you are monitoring, you will receive an e-mail with their BNET ids and a map.
2.- To help businesses and advertisers that may consider investing in SC2 better target the SC2 eSports demographic. By having a visual representation of where SC2 players are located, advertisers may be more easily convinced that investing in eSports is a good idea.
3.- To help promote eSports in general and create maps for SC2 events. If someone wants to create a SC2 event, they can use sc2geomap to tag their location. Once tagged, players can post comments. The tournament organizers can link to this page if they want.
Again, this is beta version and I'm really curious how you will react to this service. Looking forward to your thoughts and comments. If it becomes popular, it may make it easier to organize regular sc2 events. What do you think?

Thanks. This isn't meant to replace the TL User Locations database, but instead it's meant to complement it. For the cool players, please refer to that database.

Seems to have a lot of potential, granted it needs a pretty big userbase first.

Brilliant idea! Having a visual instead of just a tl.net location thread really helps find people a lot easier. Having to dig through pages and pages of locations only to come up with nothing is irksome. Thanks so much!

Thank you. When I created the thread, I wasn't sure how TL would react to me posting a link to an outside community website, so I just omitted the site from the title so people wouldn't think I was spamming or abusing the community. It was dumb thinking, but I don't post much here so I didn't want to be perceived as lacking respect.

As you can see, Protoss reigns the westcoast! On the other hand, Terran have secured the whole of Australia.

On a more serious note, a user on Reddit mentioned that it might be cool to see if certain regions favor certain races. I definitely plan to add a statistics page when I get the time. It may not be exact, and I'm swamped with schoolwork, but it's on my TODO list.

Good service, nice way to find local players.
Easier to organize LAN tournaments or parties.

Glad you like it guys.
Right now, there is just one big bug that I have to fix. Player's BNET nicknames may not repeat. If you try to place a different marker with a bnet id that is already on the map, it will give you the error. This is my bad. I will try to fix this as soon as possible.
I will also be working on miscellaneous improvemenets, like centering the location based on your IP address and improving the loading speed. This will take a while, but I'm glad you like the beta version.
