Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion.
For regular posters, don't quote the trolls. |

Peop e are getting to recognise me as "that gay dude" on twitch, and I have to say, im proud of that milestone. I am having this problem though within the scene, and slowly have lost some close connections with people because of the phrase we all know "I dont care that youre gay, just dont rub it in my face." Or to be more relevent to gaming scenes "I dont give a fuck about you being gay, it has nothing to do with sc2, stop trying to get attention." Or tweets of a similar nature. Im finding alot of people within the scene are acting very gay with eachother, the funny maymay pseudo-homosexuality that str8 dudes find hilarious, but when I do something similar people seem to get annoied, (even though I am the least likely to act on any flirting deeing as I am in a commited 5 year relationship with a dude).
People I dont think understand how threatened they evidently feel to be urked by thinking a gay dude is "rubbing his gay in his face" by occassionaly making a gay culture joke or casually making flirtatious remarks due to me thinking they were funny. And they hide behind this "but im not homophobic, by brother/friend/sister is gay, im all for equal rights"
Anyone know how to tackle this issue at all? Im not going to change my personality due to how the pros within the scene see it, as im trying to help some of the lgbt people who may or may not need help. I hope we can show the breeders that us fgts can play games too! Xo love you all <3
10 years ago I would have had a lot to say and a lot of advice to give... But it has been 10 years and trying to wrap that experience in a short exchange of words is challenging.
First, just be who you want to be and don't give a fuck about the rest. If you want to talk about being gay, or want to discuss gay issues on your stream, do it. Some people are going to enjoy your stream and respect what you do and others will not (or simply won't get it) and that's OK.
The same came be said with anything you do in your life.
Identify a few goals of your stream and shape your content around that. If you want to discuss gaming, and gay issues, and cater to a certain demographic of audience, consider the way you present yourself and make an effort to align it with those goals. When I was an active and loud Starcraft player I drew attention to my sexuality because I thought exposure to it important and frankly because I liked attention. Because those were my goals I would use profanity, strong descriptive language of my sex life (or desired sex life) and I [for the most part] got what I was looking for. What are you looking for? Go get it.
Aside from goals though, this next piece is important: when people say that being a homo has nothing to do with gaming, they're wrong. Just wrong.
Our world is a heteronormative one: movies, public places, advertisements, etc., all project a world where a man and women are meant to be together. To kiss, to love, to have sex. Romanticism (or heterosexual sexuality) is present and prevalent in [nearly] every film, video game, and caption of human interaction. Should we complain about their heterosexuality being shoved down our throats? That I want to watch a movie without seeing heterosexual romance or sex? That movies about super heroes aren't about love, and games like starcraft shouldn't also include stories of romance with characters like Kerrigan and Raynor? Bullshit. They can fuck off.
This matter is not a simple one, nor is the shape of progress clear, but I can say any exposure to non-normative life is a long-term positive thing in our world. Unless the naysayers have some serious experience, expertise, or genuine arguments otherwise, they're ignorant and possess opinions where they shouldn't. Now, you don't need to inform of this truth - I don't know what that would accomplish - but know it yourself and align your attitude and content knowing that the large majority of your audience has no experience and no interest in exploring these complexities.
In short: Be who you are. Be considerate but never apologetic. Identify your goals and make sure you're on track to achieve them. Take all feedback with a grain of salt as most people are ignorant as fuck. Be Proud.
Good luck my friend, Mora

I can't express how much it means to me to have TL have the rainbow mane. It's a little thing but supporting everyone is huge. It's part of the reason I root for TL and bout their league thing.

Hello. I need to ask something. About bisexuality and where do you think I stand. I am 31 years old, married, I have a daughter. I like physical sports like Muay Thai and bodybuilding. I try to exercise and eat healthy not to look better but to live longer so that I can be longer with the people I hold dear, looking good is a welcome though. So I admire athletic bodies of men. Not with envy, it's easy enough to achieve around 15% body fat and not look like a gummy bear. Just when I look a picture of Muay Thai fighters, for example, especially black and white, I can stare at it for half an hour, figuring out the atmosphere, enjoying the thrill of the situation (when I spar with someone, it's amazing, trying to trick each other, to lure the opponent into a step and punish him for overextension. I never try to injure someone though.), I admire their lean and powerful muscles and I want to be like that, that kind of stuff. All in all, I like watching muscular men naked and fighting. Like this image in the spoiler. Don't worry, it's SFW, just two Muay Thai boxers at it. Safe to click. + Show Spoiler + Also, like two weeks ago, I watched some porn. There were two athletic guys on a sofa and a sexy fit girl behind them, like fitness model fit, abs out and all, she was extremely hot. I knew where it was going so I left the channel. And at one point, one guy pulls the other guy's dick and started sucking it. Later on, they both had sex with the girl so this BJ was the only gay part. I immediately tried consciously to assess my emotions at the time. I was curious, I was not repulsed by that act of a man sucking dick. At the same time I was not sexually aroused by it, I left the clip on just out of curiosity. I was not disappointed when there was not more gay sex. I also thought "Hmm, do I want to see gay porn? No, not really. Why not? Not because it's repulsive, I mean, it's just people fucking for money, same like man and woman, it's just not interesting when there is no pussy and boobs.". I've never imagined having sex with another man but I don't think it's gross or repulsive. I have watched two girls kissing and caressing and playing with each other though (it's a long story involving a lost bet on their side and also a few extasy pills, it's a great story, might make a blog of it some time). This is probably one of the most arousing memories I will ever have. It was a thing of beauty even though it was an act of gay sex. I guess that's my story. Where do you think I stand on this bisexuality thing?

IIRC Kinsey had a theory that everyone falls on a continuum of sexuality instead of being set. Thus, created a scale 1-5; technically 0-6 but since 0 being only heterosexual and 6 being only homosexual, didn't exist in his theory just 1 to 5 with 1 being mostly straight and 5 being mostly gay. On that scale, I'd guess you're a 1. Mostly straight.
FWIW, if I remember the studies correctly, the theory was disproven. Since then, it's been found that males tend to have a more static or set sexuality whereas female sexuality tends to be more fluid. IE If a male's sexuality is a 1, then it's unlikely to alter ever from a 1; whereas a female's sexuality can flucuate between a 1 and a 5 quite drastically. Additionally, human sexuality appears to be set at some point during or around puberty (12-25 or so); although there are a variety of studies that point to different ages when sexuality usually becomes set. Regardless of that, the mechanic by which sexuality becomes set and the mechanic which leads to one's sexual preference both remain a mystery. Although, there does seem to be a genetic component to sexuality.
Granted, none of this covers situational homosexuality, but that tends to be temporary and created by the situation that deprives the subject of their preferred sexual preference (prison, isolation, etc.).
If you're interested in reading more about random things on human sexuality in a way that's reasonably explained to the lay person, then I'd recommend reading Dan Savage's columns. He's a gay columnist who responds to letters akin to Dear Abby. Plus, his columns and daily replies to letters are exceptionally funny. So you can just Google Dan Savage or Savage Love. In the least, he'd tell you you're straight enough to 'round up' to straight.
tl;dr You're probably just straight and don't need to worry about it.

Obviously if you do so that's not totally wrong, but it can be somewhat offputting if a person only is identifiable by their sexuality.
As far as "trying to help some lgbt people"... well they are probably not looking towards a minor SC2 streamer for help or inspiration. If they are, they need to be looking in other places. As far as I'm concerned, we shouldn't try to force LGBT anything onto the community, just let it happen naturally. If someone who happens to be gay or trans or whatever comes into the scene and becomes relevant the old fashioned way, then that's fantastic, but sexuality shouldn't be all your about. We all normal people, damn it, let's just be normal as possible with all the other nerds.
Perhaps my opinions are a little skewed by the fact that I'm just a bisexual and I've never really struggled in the same way others have, but that's just how I view things.
I know I'm digging up old posts, I'm sorry, but I kinda disagree with this.
Current state of SC2 community is Extremely Heteronormative, and it bugs the hell out of me. Just with any minority, I think there should be clear sources of inspiration and role models that display there's nothing wrong with being part of that minority.
+ Show Spoiler + And hopefully letting people think about before they insult a minority and or act privileged. I'm not in favor of censoring people, but some self and surrounding awareness would be appreciated to prevent creating a hostile environment where other people don't think they can be themselves.
I'm speaking in general terms, the SC2 community is not superbad compared to other areas of life.
If we take this to gender, then I know I can't be the only one that drew a lot of inspiration and strength from our favorite trans gender SC2 player. I think enough Cis-gendered people have learned a lot from this as well, albeit there's still some extremely uneducated trolls around on the Internet.
We might all be people and interested in a game, but diversity is something wonderful as well. And be it intentional or not, diversity should not be or feel excluded. There's enough environments in life to not feel safe.
I say be whoever you want to and express how you want to express, respectfully, and don't let anyone silence you or make you feel you need to conform to any kind of standard.

There's a rather large jump to be made between "not finding something repulsive" and "actively wanting to do something".
I'm quite a big fan of boobs, and I've kissed quite a lot of girls for one reason or another, but I am in no way attracted to women.
I think if you wanted to try something with a dude you'd know it, and you wouldn't have to come asking here in the manner you did. If you wanna try kissing a guy, try kissing a guy.

When are we getting the old team liquid logo back, that is what I want to know. It has been a while since the SCOTUS decision. Is it just going to run for a month?

I'll probably change it back after pride.
