I think I've played 2 or 3 games today where the captain just picked stuff. Like, pick a hard carry that you can rely on, like AM, morph, void, syllabear, or something like that and have a team built around protecting that carry. Pick a push team. Pick a teamfight team like you mentioned, with stuff like dark seer, tide, enigma, etc. But when you get a team that doesn't really have any reason behind it and the captain decided to just pick stuff (and it can be composed of good heroes, but there's real no strategy or thoughts behind the picks), the games are just going to turn out horrible. I don't care if you go for something like a necrolyte or a silencer as long as you have a plan going into the game. I agree on this.

Also, I miss Mother of Runes. But I want to point out that he played windrunner like a bitchass. And he can't even retort on here so all is good.

My only complaint is that people seem to put far more emphasis on doing what they think is a good draft than what heroes people can play decently. I'm probably in the minority here because I'm fairly inexperienced but it seems like a better idea to give someone a hero they are comfortable with than giving them a hero that is optimal for the draft but not as good with. I don't mind trying new heroes but I'm far more likely to be terrible with them compared to the ones I'm more used to. I don't really care either way. If I'm not good with any of the heroes the captain drafts, I'll learn. I'm bad with most heroes and if I happen to become decent or good with a hero, I prefer to not pick it because I will learn more from doing something I don't know yet. That is if I don't have a specified role I should play in every game and if that happens, I'll focus on the heroes of that specific role. I think a problem comes when people expect that everybody is good at every hero. If you start bitching at me for being terrible because I'm playing a hero I'm bad at, go ahead and waste your time. I can't say anything regarding drafting because I don't really know yet if I can learn drafting without drafting.

I see your point, but in 85% of the cases the heroes that get drafted are the ones you should be either comfortable with or be learning first, if you want to get anywhere in semi-organised play. As for me, I only ask around if people can play a certain hero if I want to pick something a bit more special. We're all here to learn, so best thing if you get to play a hero you are not "good" with, is to ask your teammates for skill- and itembuilds, positioning on the lane, role on clashes etc.

Of course, that's assuming you have a reliable drafter who knows how to construct a team with some cohesion and that can also take on your opponents on equal footing (at least) . The heroes that are selected are ones that you should definitely learn if you want to have continued success in Dota. You should also become familiar with the heroes that are commonly banned. Really though, take the time to learn every hero. If something you can't play is drafted in an inhouse, then dedicate that game to learning about it to the best of your abilities. Ask your teammates for help and don't be sour (I haven't encountered this yet) because you can't play it. And if your captain bitches at you for not being able to play a hero he drafted, then he's also to blame for not explaining what role the hero should have played in the team. --- I could go on forever about these inhouses, but if there's just one thing I want to get across in all my posts, it's that these are more of a casual learning experience than anything. It's nice that we can mimic the pros occasionally, but that more than often won't be the case considering the player pool available to us. Don't take the games to seriously, please.
