I think if there are rankings, it defeats the purpose of the in-house-ness.
How does it feel knowing you wasted another 3 seconds of your life reading this again?

yeah something I hadnt thought about, if there are rankings then it kind of discourages fun or experimental drafts.

All for it, the old timers know each other well enough to enjoy competing against each other and I can't ever complain about a more competitive environment, even if it will expose how bad I am.

Imho the tlih is also the place where one can try their kaipi kunka, mirana, sd style drafts, even though they'll a bit likly fail. I think that it's not rated encourages more interesting drafts, which is for me the main point of playing tlih.

For example in the game today, we played offensive trilane, and i (carry) gave up firstblood, and my 2 fellow supports died shortly afterwards. If this game was rated there might come flame or so, now it was just a response from me "das comunication" and some agreement to that. Top lane lost too, but people was chill, and we won in the end. In a rated game this would have ended up in a flamewar 100%.

In this regard I belive that a rating would be working counterproductive in terms of gamequality.

The idea is that we moderate it well to prevent such attitudes, unlike IXDL which almost encourages it.

That's the point of not having ratings, which encourage it

You can moderate flamewars, but you can't moderate the pressure on people to perform because points/rankings are on the line.

I dont mind having ratings either way. On one hand it would help balance teams so you aren't having lopsided teams lead to complete stomps. On the other hand I could see people getting more worked up over a game because they feel like their rating is more important than having fun.

I personally just want even games because they are a lot more fun than complete stomps due to skill level differences.

Another solution that we briefly discussed is to have people honestly rate themselves on a scale of 1000-2000 and admins/mods can set their rating to this number. You won't gain/lose rating so there's nothing to be scared of, but it helps when the client balances teams.

Main disadvantage is do people rate themselves the same way others do? But eh, if you rate yourself too high, you'll be placed in teams with newer people, so it may be worth rating yourself humbly. Hmm......

we can implement real captains mode, where the drafters also chose the team
first pick can chose 1 player
second pick the next 2 etc xD

Yeah, and we've done a few of those. That's fine and dandy, but not every game is going to be a challenge game.

I feel like there needs to be the rating system. I don't think it would cause people to be too tryhardy, I think it would promote balance. I don't want to handicap my team because I'm so bad but rated equally to someone who's actually way better than me.

Fun isn't getting stomped because the system placed the vets on one side and people like me on the other.

Edit: Having the rating system is one of the biggest draws of being able to use ixdl. Who cares if I'm down at 800 or something. I don't care about the rating, I care about having even teams so we can have awesome games.

This is probably a decent solution because even if it isn't as accurate as an actual rating it will make teams more balanced than it being completely random.
