Also you can see only 5 lobbies and sometimes they wont even show up. Well when the game doesn't start you have to wait a bit extra for spectators. It's a dota bug so they don't instantly get back to the lobby. If you start the game right away the game will get bugged entirely. In the future wait a bit extra for spectators to get back to the lobby screen. Spectating off is annoying for the ones who want to catch the next lobby since we need to see when the game is finished. Ideally the timer is set to only 10seconds delay unlike the usual 2min to make it even easier for those wanted to play to be able to catch the next lobby. The 5 lobbies you are talking about are bugged lobbies. They don't exist but once a lobby is created they appear for some reason. The lobbies you see are "ghost lobbies" from when a lobby is hosted and then Dota servers crash. They are glitched there for some reason I don't know why. They were a bit harsh on you but I hope you didn't take it too seriously. They are the trolls of tlih >_> Also the lobby is back up again and running, try to catch next one if you want to play

Also are you hosting the games on a us server? http://steamcommunity.com/id/VentoAureo11/ Unless someone is friends with you, they can't send you an invite. Usually what I do is just send out invites to the people that are in the lobbies. So if you get in a lobby you'll typically get an invite. Also if you post in the TLIH channel it'll be possible to get you an invite as well.

Seems like fun. How competitive are the games? As of now the fun comes from learning (Only like 200 games in, it'll take a while) so me feeding is to be expected.

There are a good number of people around your level of experience though so I wouldn't worry about the games being over your head. I dunno, it's actually been bothering me a little that since the recent influx of even more players a lot of the people who are new/not very good yet basically lose the game for their team by not even having a rudimentary of what they're supposed to be doing on their role and still don't listen to advice. While it's true that that's always been the case to some extend, the recent spike in people playing TLIH has exacerbated the problem severely. ![]()

This is amazing. I've desperately wanted to learn Dota for so many years but always found myself turning away due to the extremely angry community of dota 1. Even though dota 2 is more friendlier I'm still scarred from dota 1 days lol. I've tried getting my friends to play Dota too but they're so set on LoL and hate all the extra little nuances. I think playing friendly games with a good competitive group would be a great experience. Really happy I found this thread. I will definitely jump on the in game channel to check for some games. I have a lot to learn still though. I'm quite bad imo.

Outside of that all the new people are nice and aren't negative so I like that.

It's not something that's easy to teach someone on when they can go and be really aggressive because sometimes it doesn't pay off. 2 games I played yesterday had sluggish games because some of our initiators were afraid of initiating on people that were out of position. It's not something you can teach people quickly but hopefully that will change =D. Outside of that all the new people are nice and aren't negative so I like that. I actually have this exact problem. I tend to be too passive sometimes. Is it all a matter of experience on knowing when to be aggressive? Or can it be partially taught? The only way I can see to learn this aspect is to be extremely aggressive on a certain game and see what I can actually get away with but that would mean a pretty decent amount of feeding. D: This was actually one aspect I really wanted to pick up on from playing friendly games.

Watching replays of yourself is also a really good way to learn about enemy movements vs your perception you had in game. Use this to your advantage to see what you thought about the opposing team to what you see post game. It helps me a lot to see the whole map afterwards and say that I was really defensive and conservative farming when I really had no threat of being ganked.

I know everyone jumps on to get some friendly games in but does the group ever talk about the games after to discuss those nuances you mentioned? (such as what situation caused the person to get out of position, at what points could someone have done this or that, etc.) I'll log on in a couple hours at least to add the channel and hopefully join in on some games.

D: This was actually one aspect I really wanted to pick up on from playing friendly games. I actually did that for a stretch of games a few months ago. My friends absolutely hated my carry play for being too passive because even if I did get big I would just never engage at the right time or back off too early. Ended up playing a bunch of games where I tower dived even crazier than xboct. Toned it down after I finally got the confidence of knowing when to go and when not to. I still end up being more aggressive than I should be nowadays, but I think people would prefer erring on the side of aggression. As long as you learn of course. Different methods work for different people so what worked for me might not work for you.

Some people ask for advice and some don't. Up to the individual really. Also we might have news about that as well, not entirely sure yet waiting for Firebolt to confirm stuff etc.
