I agree sblade is good but I don't know that it's core. I just think BKB and aghs are more generally applicable.

Bash vs charge is the age-old question. If you search Yango's posts he has an essay somewhere. Basically they both have situations where they're better, but the extra charge speed is really valuable in pubs to respond to random junk that goes down.

Drums is pretty trash on everyone now. Maybe keeping it situational is ok, for both heroes.

The BKB -> Aghs build is almost never bought.

Urn into Shadow Blade is still good and there is no reason you can't get Aghs later.

I cant imagine maxing bash over charge with SB purely because 17% is actually 17% for me, not 83% like it is for some people..

I do agree on Shadowblade, it should be there but whether its core or situational, both fine.

I would go Treads over Phase, seems safer option, also Veil seems really popular right now with the Spirit Siphon change to magical. Eul's is still good, keep that.

I would leave Drums in the situational, its still a good pick up if u struggle.

After all DP is all about getting HP, Armor, MS and Immunity (BKB Ghost Eul), focus on those before anything else.

Im pretty sure there was discussion about lvl1 mana leak earlier, how good the skill is but there are still no lvls in it before lvl9? Honestly i would rather see lvls in w than q just because pub kotls always think its their job to spam illuminate on lane creeps to push the lane rather than actually doing something useful. Most popular build is still start with w and max e>q after that.

The thing is if you pick up Veil on DP it does everything that Drums does for DP and more (except the move speed) and getting both is pretty silly because you're really delaying your Eul's and slotting yourself out very early.

Situational is probably still fine, but I don't think personally I'd ever make it.

Max illuminate sucks btw because you can't actually farm jungle stacks anymore (part of why kotl's a generally miserable hero these days)

Now your role is basically to mana leak their whole team and giff mana to all your teammates. I think like... 2 points in illuminate is probably good.

The reason people buy veil on DP is because it works with spirit siphon which makes you heal more too. Combined with the too-good buildup (double null in lane is fabulous etc) and the ability to 1-shot ranged creeps with veil on them for most of the game, it's not hard to see why pros buy it although there are arguments against it. In any case its STRICTLY better than drums for a only mildly higher investment and a better buildup (traditionally one of drum's key selling points)

I do agree i would never start off with a plan to buy drums, but if u get destroyed in the lane, i think having all 3 (Veil Drums Eul) is fine, u are not that starved with slots (Boots + 3 items + bottle/wand + tp is 6 and basicly 10k networth).

Drums is basicly middle ground of both survivability in terms of EHP and MS, if u need both quickly, drums is fine, if u can live with the fact that u get only one of them now and other 5-10min later, then sure, go ahead and skip drums.

E: Also take in account the active component of Veil vs. Drums Aura, they are kinda even in paper but situationally one beats the other by quite a big margin

I think the issue is that if you get an early point in Mana Leak, there is no guarantee in your line-up to take advantage of the enemy staying still to dish some damage, making an early point a potential wasted.

To add, you're then only getting a point in Chakra Magic which isn't that amazing.
I think players are still maxing Illuminate for the flash-farm to wipe out enemy pull camps and stack their own even if it is less damage.

DP, either 3-1-3-1 or 2-1-4-1, u dont really need more than 2lvls in swarm to push out the lane and last hit with it. Veil first seems safer and has easier build up and the building parts are more useful during the early game than in Euls. I already said Treads feel safer imo because of how u lack HP with Phase.

Both competitive KOTLs were played in lane for the bullying purpose, not for the killing potential. Also both games KOTL against a lane where enemy core had way to get rid of mana leak / get away without losing mana. Jugger Spin and AM Blink.

Pub KOTLs had both lvl 1 illuminate and lvl 1 mana leak with mixed results.

E: where comes the idea of switching KOTL to offlane? u literally cant play this hero solo offlane.
E2: Early point in mana leak forces ur opponent, preferably melee, to either lose their mana or get harassed down if they stand still, U most certainly want atleast one point in mana leak early on.

Also no one is suggesting 4-1-1-1, thats stupid, chakra magic should be maxed out first in almost any situation. Whether u get 2-3 points in illuminate during early game should be game dependent.

SB lothar is definitely a great pub build because no one knows how to ward properly at the level for which the guides are made..it should see lots of success. but I don't pick it up first item since you'll benefit more from the urn + blademail earlier on IMO

blademail is terrific because it solves your armor problem and makes it hard for enemy heroes to fight back without hurting themselves in the process. urn is also an obvious choice because you should be gaining (and spending) charges as you continue to gank.

agha on SB is not really a worthwhile build and I've only experienced success with it on accident (I built it as a joke because my team was losing severely and wound up salvaging a team fight with a good charge, not related to itemization at all). it's CD is just long enough where you probably won't get to use it twice in a team fight and the AOE isn't really a selling point.

for all intents and purposes in a guide, charge should be maxed first like belasarius suggested. drums is garbo tier on core heroes.

phase on DP is correct because it gives you mobility to stay out of pain range, but still maintain your soul siphon. euls is definitely core. veil is the up and coming 1st item, but it makes sense. she's super squishy early on and the build up is very natural. like sn0 said, double null tali is great for laning. skill build is questionable, but I tend to like max soul siphon because the ability is just so good and leaving it at lvl 1 is pointless IMO. 2-1-4-1 at lvl 8 is fine especially if you're opting for the current itemization including veil.

Blade Mail is in extension. Keep it as is (Urn -> Shadow Blade -> Extension)

Added another Null Talisman after Bottle
Replace Phase with Power Treads and max Siphon (4/0/2). There aren't many people going phase + Veil and I guess they're opting for more tankiness over the maneuverability of Phase Boots (which the straight damage is wasted on DP). With Siphon'd maxed. You can slow opponents hard enough to compensate the delayed Eul's and use Veil to get more damage. Thus more tankiness and end-game goals over short-term value of speed from Phase (later compensated with Eul's anyways).

I'm going to start pushing Patreon links directly in the Hero Description. I am simply not getting enough traction that I was hoping and I'm finding out that what I thought was an obtrusive way to advertise the campaign (directly in the client) is not yielding that much result after 6+ months (December).
