Recently my StarCraft 2 has been freezing my whole computer for up to three minutes now but is not pausing the game like it does for a regular freeze or disconnect, it starts happening with any first contact of a small/medium-sized army from an enemy and my headset begins to emit a rather odd buzzing sound and stopping all processes on my computer. I have only been able to close out of the game once out of the 3-4 times this has occurred and both of the times it froze on my desktop as well and I was unable to shut down or restart my computer.
My computer specs real quick; MSI GTX 670 PE Intel Core i5-3570K stock speeds at the moment Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO ASUS P8Z77-LK 8gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1866 MHz Antec High Current Pro 750W HAF XM Kingston HyperX 120GB SSD Western Digital WD Blue 500GB

Hard lock could be any number of things. A couple things: 1) Keep a GPU temp monitor open; MSI afterburner or an equivalent. See if you get a peak temp so we have one reference point. 2) Double check that your RAM latencies are according to SPD. Check with memtest as well. 3) May also consider downclocking your GTX670 to reference clocks (915 core, down from the out-if-box OC at 1019 Mhz). Many times, factory GPU OCs aren't even stable or properly tested.

Can you post your graphic settings as well.
Most likely culprit is your GPU temps or prolly your PSU can't handle the load.

Hey guys, this is the guy who actually posted from the "jayrflare" account which is my buddies I just couldn't post for some reason so I got him to. My GPU has not hit over 55 degrees Celsius, I have been monitoring my temps to make sure that it was not the cause with MSI afterburner. My CPU hit a max of 59-60 degrees when I was monitoring it with core temp, and these temps also did not occur until my system began to freeze, before the freezes they both stayed below 50 degrees. I will check my RAM latencies now that you have brought it up. I saw that it may possibly be a driver issue so I have downloaded a new beta driver from nvidia and will try to go back a few drivers if this does not fix it. If the problem continues further I will try to downclock my card as you suggested.
Jaidee, I run the game at max settings but my FPS never drops below 50 in any 1v1 situation, my power consumption of my entire system never exceeds 500 watts whilst playing The Witcher 2 so I am extremely confident that my power supply is not the cause of my problems.

Got similar problem. Not exactly same as yours but still. Game just freezes randomly and after few seconds windows crit error window accurs.
The thing is that it never happens in any game but LADDER game. Exclusively ladder games. Wtf rly? I can play billions of customs with my friend - nothing. Everything runs smoothly. Campaign? Perfect! But playing a ladder games has a ~10% chance of crushing the client (tested in ~500 games). Like... wtf blizzard? That problem arouse after 2.0.4 btw. I checked everything. That's purely blizz software isuue. My system runs everything smoothly. Any program, any game. Temperature is always ok. It happened on win 7, and it happens on win 8. How ffs could this be a my hardware problem if it happens in specific game scenario (aka ladder game). Graphics is the same on the ladder and in custom game. Maps r the same, everything is the same. Why ffs ladder game?! So mate, just accept the truth. Nothing can be done form our side. Blizzard coders #$&@#.

That makes me feel good zzz

This kind of bullshit costs me games all the time, ever since the HotS + WoL UI content patch.
My GPU is chillin' at a happy 39 degrees but the UI freezes. All I can see are changes to the cursor (which still moves normally). If I minimize and restore, the client turns into a black screen with a working cursor. Typically, I can't get people to pause for long enough for it to sort itself out. It's kinda fucked, but basically, it's like playing the game blind (except I know where my cursor is). Kind of a pain in the ass, especially when I'm forced to leave a game because my opponent is being an asshole and won't give me 2 or 3 mins.

I kind of doubt it's a GPU problem. But if it is, in this case you probably want to go BACK a few drivers, rather than forward to a new beta driver. After all, it used to work right.

I don't know about you, but my SC2 won't even launch if something on my computer is out of date. Rolling back a driver is no exception. Whenever I do that, my SC2 Agent Updater gets stuck in the "Updating Blizzard Launcher" phase. Shit, I JUST right now got disconnected from BNet in the middle of a game because my nVidia Auto-Updater has a slightly newer driver available. Fantastic!

I just got this computer built in November 2012 and hadn't played StarCraft 2 on it at all or even attempted to do until recently when I encountered this problem, so I'm not sure if it used to work on an older driver, I already tried rolling back drivers and it didn't change a thing unfortunately.

I have this issue too: Graphics have frozen a few times in campaign after UI patch in WoL, sound keeps going and I can still hear battles and interfaces noises when I move the mouse around. Graphics have frozen in ladder, game keeps going otherwise (I can send messages, pause/unpause, etc. but I can't see anything). I managed to get it to come back after pausing by first alt-tabbing out of the game and then locking windows and then unlocking.
I've seen this occur on Suppy's stream as well.
Specs: Windows 7 64bit i5 3570K GTX 660

This is a different problem

On my older laptop I have also this problem, just randomly freezes (complete computer locks up), sounds goes buzzing and I need to do a restart with the power button( I don't have 3 min patience).
Specs:
Laptop type: N53SV CPU: 2630QM GPU: Nvidia 540m GT
Never had it before, don't have this problem on my m17x r4 (or so far haha).

I have nearly the same Problem, for me it looks like the Problem occurs more often in Replay while increasing or decreasing the gamespeed. The game Freezes and my Pc seems not to react for a few seconds on Keyboard input as well, nevertheless VoiceChat for example works totaly fine, during this period. After around 10-15 seconds (sometimes even longer) the Pc does eveything you wanted to do him before while you hit the Keyboard and the game goes on too. No idea's how to solve this?
My System: Intel Core i72600k Asus p8z68 deluxe Msi gtx 580 lightning 16gb gskill sniper ram 1866mhz Corsair force gt 120gb ssd bequit dark power pro 850w power supply
Windows 7 64 bit (all updates) newest nvidia beta driver Problem: occurs for the first time after HOTS Release -> no Problems in other games or Applications Temperatures are fine as well Running sc2 on max settings

Yet another issue, haha..
This one is probably just sc2 behaving badly with loading. You shouldn't experience it if you already watched the replay start to finish and go back

Hi, I also get this issue and it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem. It only happens with SC2, and often during 'big changes' like the first poster mentioned. My temperatures are normal, memory tests okay and there's lots free...CPU has lots of free time etc.
Are there any workarounds or other nonsense for this? It really seems like a bug in the game, or some obscure hardware interaction..

I have this problem as well gotta love blizzard

Maybe this is a hack, to delay the player while still in the game. At worse it will force the player to close the Starcraft 2 client. Sometimes if I wait it out, it comes back, but it's already too late. Sometimes it doesn't come back at all.

I also have this issue, computer specs:
intel 2600k 16gb ram evga 770 2gb xfx 700W PSU samsung 840 250gb ssd
I have tried various driver versions, re-install of sc2, install of sc2 on a secondary disk (HDD raid 5 array) - nothing has helped.. every now and then it just happens and all I can do is close sc2
