Then try 720, 48fps and 1080, 24

I thought 2500k's were better than that, you just trying to stream sc2?

to be honest, not even. CS:GO and some random games on top of that.

Everything I've read from you guys regarding stream settings and streaming in general has always been spot on. You guys are the most knowledgeable, so I signed up here.

Different games use different amounts of CPU, starcraft 2 will max 1 core and load another but is relatively light overall on the CPU for a CPU bound game, so you need to use more conservative settings for many other games

Using CRF / quality instead of CBR is a bad idea these days. CBR provides a much more stable stream with the added benefit of not having to worry about setting a quality setting.

I use CBR a lot myself, but it gets talked down a lot

hey guys, one more question before I get out of your hair.

http://www.twitch.tv/rivaltv/b/438518051 is the current quality I'm getting. When I play CS:GO, I play on a 1024x768 resolution, which explains the black bars.

So my OBS settings are as followed:

Encoding tab- Use CBR NOT checked, Quality Balance: 6, Max Bitrate: 4000, Buffer Size: 4000, Audio Codec: MP3, 128 bitrate.

Video tab- Video Adapter: GeForce GTX 560 Ti, Base Resolution: Custom 1024x768, Resolution Downscale: 1.25 (818x614), Filter: Bilinear(Fastest), FPS: 30, Disable Aero CHECKED.

Advanced tab- Use Multithreaded Optimizations CHECKED, Process Priority Class: Normal, x264 CPU Preset: veryfast, Use CFR CHECKED

I'm getting around 70-80% CPU usage with these settings. I see you guys said use CBR, I'll test that out next. Any other suggestions on pushing out a bit of better quality? Or even potentially 60fps.

Also, if you guys were to upgrade a piece of your computer for better quality, what would you upgrade first on my PC? Once again, my specs are i5-2500k @ 4.5, GTX 560 Ti GPU, 8GB 1333 mhz Memory.

also, i usually get 300 fps not streaming, and when I stream I get about 100-120. should I be taking a 200+fps drop?

Using lanczos filter instead of bilinear filter under resolution downscale will give better quality, but I haven't seen any comparisons to really know the difference it should make. Heck, you probably don't even need to downscale at all -- 720p has a higher pixel count than 1024x768 and people run 720p 30fps on that CPU all the time. Also, you should use AAC instead of MP3 for audio codec. It's just better

It's normal to lose some fps while streaming since you're running another CPU-intensive task alongside the game (it's kinda like turning on the A/C in your car -- some power from your motor is used to power the A/C compressor so your car might feel sluggish). Your CPU usage seems pretty high though, especially for such low encoding resolution/fps on a game like CSGO. Makes me hesitate to suggest not downscaling, but maybe that's normal usage for a 2500k?

Hi guys,

I'v been using OBS for a couple of weeks but still haven't found the optimal settings for streaming Battlefield 3. Battlefield 3 is pretty CPU intensive. While streaming my CPU is at 90%, which I find too high. Because of this high usage it introduces a lot of input lag ingame. Almost sluggish.

My setup:
I7 2600K @ 4,4Ghz
8GB @ 1600 Mhz
GTX 780

Internet: 100/10 Mbit.

At the moment using the following OBS settings:

720p @ 60 fps
CBR ON
Bitrate 3500
Audio AAC
CPU preset VeryFast

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Just lower your encoding framerate in OBS, not much else to do

You're probably not getting anywhere near 60 output because of weak CPU or something like that

is there some video that shows how a real 60 fps stream would look like? and how can i see that my output is lacking, is there some info via obs that could tell me that?

Just a quick question. What should I set my audio bitrate to if I am streaming at 720p 48fps with 1450 bitrate? My upload speed is 1.87Mb at it's peak. I also assume I should leave the preset on veryfast right? (2500K @ 4.5GHz)

So I upgraded my internet

I'm gonna stick to 720p as I don't feel upgrading to 1080p is worth losing the viewers that don't have great internet. What would be a safe bitrate setting for good 720p quality? I'm also debating between 30 and 48 fps.

2000-2500 is really nice to watch in 720P with very fast preset. 48 fps is also a lot better to watch than 30. Almost hardly noticeable difference from 60. Desrow is streaming at 1080@48fps and it looks like a 60fps stream.

Local record, right click - properties on the file output, if it says anything other than 59 or 60 then turn down settings, alternatively, watch individual cpu core usage for 5-10 minutes while playing and if any threads aside from one the game is taking up goes past 85% or so, turn down settings if you want a consistent stream

I'm gonna stick to 720p as I don't feel upgrading to 1080p is worth losing the viewers that don't have great internet

If somebody can't watch 3k bitrate, they can't watch 3k bitrate, doesn't really matter what your resolution is AFAIK, decoding 1920x1080 isn't hard

What are your PC (laptop?) specs?

Also if i may ask: Is that fiber to the cabinet, or house/apartment directly? I should be able to get FTTC next month and it's quoted as ~70mbit down. If i could get that upload, it would be a ridiculous increase (20x)

thanks, no drops shown, gonna check the cpu usage to be sure, point still remains that i dont really see a difference between 60 / 30fps stream of mine ^^; for example when i watch dreamhack stream it looks smoother than real life lol and my stream looks like your average tl.net stream

Because you're streaming on a stock phenom II x4 and have like a quarter to a third of the CPU power of somebody with overclocked haswell

It's probably unsuitable to try to set anything like that in the first place, did you try logging cpu usage per core? It must look really terrible

I thought you could check FPS output from local record, maybe that was just xsplit a while ago. I'm sure there's some way in console to do that. Actually, got a twitch VOD so i can look at? Can probably tell by eye, and there's a script too that i think R1CH wrote

Also i noticed for firebolt for example, with 1280x720, 30fps stream he's below 40fps a lot, i saw a dip to ~31, and increasing stream framerate would hurt the game more (so no point setting 40-60fps) You need good performance in the first place for stream to scale up

but thats not the case, i am running on i5 3570k on currently 4.4ghz

this is a test of mine from 30 minutes ago with different sc2 settings to see how it looks, i am probably weird but medium shaders look cooler to me than ultra lol.

When youre streaming at 60fps, are you sure your ingame fps is over 60 ? Otherwise youre just streaming whatever your computer is capable of at that moment. If youre streaming at 60fps and your ingame fps is over 60 then it got to be something with youre capture method if it still looks laggy.
